The wheels showed up from Zipp tonight, so it's officially complete (for now). 2010 QR CD 0.1, Dura Ace 7800 throughout (except for crank - going to be replaced later this year), Zipp Vuka bars, Zipp 1080/808. Yum, I can't wait to go ride her...

Anyone start looking at 2011 yet? I'm hoping I start getting my run speed back, so I think I'm going to try for Clearwater. I'm planning on the following:

Galvaston
Kansas or Eagleman
Steelhead
Timberman
Branson or Augusta

I'll do Branson/Kansas if they have the combo pricing again, else I'll do Eagleman and Augusta. Thoughts? I think I'm currently good with the swim and bike - I just need to drop about 2:45/mile on the run, and be able to sustain it for 13 miles... I think that's going to be somewhat realistic.

My thoughts... you should do Augusta this year.

No seriously, I havent even begun to think about 2011. That might be the Year DH and I try to start a family so 2011 is up in the after for me. After Augusta this year... who knows what the future holds for me.

Well, actually Augusta wouldn't be too bad for me this year. Something to think about. Any idea if they fill up?

Damn nice bikes!

Kyla - That green is addicting, I was just commenting the other day how much the Green theme has caught on and how sweet it is.

TJ - Hella nice bike, best luck on the journey to Clearwater.

John, for you and me it's easy. $350 for an airline ticket and I'll show you the best place in town for bagels, pizza and beer!  I grew up in Clearwater.

I'm thinking that a 4:40 will get me there (at least at Steelhead).

:30 swim
2:30 bike
1:35 run

Run will be the hardest. I think that a standalone 13.1 would be no issues at 7 minute miles (next year), but I don't know how that will be off a hard bike.

I leave for a full day and I feel like I am a week behind! Good grief people....

Jeff, my husband and I used to bike together, but the minute I stated training for triathlon he told me I was too fast and won't ride me about 95% of the time.  I hate it.  I would love to do some fun rides, but he thinks he is too slow, too old and too fat.

Kyla, I do love the bike and the color scheme alot!  Like you weren't fast enough!

Not entirely sure how we got on cars but like Steve I have a Toyota--LEXUS SUV and LOVE IT.  Paul has a LEXUS Sedan, an Avalanche and little Jeep....can you tell he likes cars?  One is our up north car and somehow 2 people need 3 cars in Madison.  Not sure how that works.

Texas bound people, nervous? excited? thinking OMG!????  My answer YES!

Sitting in a room with no windows fo 8 hours was torture today.  So much so I get to do it again tomorrow and then call it a rest day in my training plan.  The best thing that happened is I got to run on the Racine70.3 course today....also had a chance to look at Lake Michigan with 20mph winds....YIKES!

Yes, yes, and YES! OMG!!! Freaking out here!!

I'm concerned that I've not heard back from the OWS clinic held by the Coast Guard at Lonestar. Guess I'll email them again tomorrow. In any case, I'm donning the wetsuit and hitting a lake tomorrow. I have no idea how to measure off 500 yards of water, but between my mathematically minded husband and myself, I'm sure we will find a way.  Hubby will be in a kayak next to me while I'm swimming in case I need to rest.

I sure hope he doesn't hit me in the head with his paddle - after the bike beating he gave me Saturday I'm not sure I can take much more of his abuse Wink

Before I forget: Does anyone wear shoes/booties with their wetsuits? I'm thinking my feet aren't going to like the cold water and sharp rocks. Is this another case of HTFU?

Kyla - Beautiful bike! Really digging the color scheme. Love green! Oh, and I have the same color of paint on my living room walls - Sherwin Williams Desert Blonde. I love it, too - it goes with everything.

You don't need booties, your feet will be okay.  Last weekend in Galveston Bay it was chilly upon entry but after the gun sounded I didn't even notice feeling chilly.  There were several who swam sans wetsuit as well.  Buy a pair of cheap flip flops from Academy to walk around before you get in the water.  They are like $2 so you can feel okay about it if you can't find them after the race...  Don't forget your trashbags for putting your wetsuit on though...

YOO-HOO!!!!  It's time to start thinking about the weekend. WHO's RACING?

WHO's TAPERING?

WHAT ARE THE REST OF YOU PLANNING TO DO?

With all the people that raced last weekend, I thought I would throw in a question to help those that might be racing next weekend...wonder who that is??? what is the one thing you learned in your last race that could help your fellow MG'ers?

Wear sunscreen...  I ended up with sunburn on my thighs and have a nice Shroud-of-Turin outline of my racing tank on my back.  It itches like crazy now...

Even though I am technically not tapering for this race, my week is so light that it feels like one.....

What I learned doing my first race in 5 months after being out of running for 4 months, is I am pretty strong....while I've lost top end speed, all the biking I did this winter, really strengthened my legs for distance and hills.  Going to take that with me into the sprint....even though it is only a 5K, the course is totally flat and will be about 30F higher than it has been in Wisconsin.  Tongue out

wow i'm over 15 pages behind..  glanced at the last 4 pages, all I saw was great looking bike porn and the discussion of cars, all my favorite things..  My parents have driven Toyotas for over 30 yrs and never had a problem, always worked when they were supposed to.  Personally I drive a BMW X5, a compromise with the wife between a baby mobile and a porsche.  It has 3rd row seating, great handling and acceleration though not the best for all the tri gear but it does the job..

With all this discussion of cars I figure I better come clean.  I spent the first 15 years of my career in the Auto Business working both on the corporate side (Ford Motor Co.) and the Dealer side (Ford, GM, Toyota, Suzuki, Saturn, etc.).  I moved onto the Material Handling business about 3 years ago (Forklifts, Aerial Platforms, Etc.) because I saw what the economy was going to do to that business, but still have a ton of contacts on the Auto side across the entire US if anybody needs help or direction on anything.

I am sure "Birdy" could give some insight also.......

edit....Oh, I have a Colorado, a Navigator, and a Corolla in my stable (driveway).  All three have been very, very good to me!

Dino

P.S.  Still no racing for me this week.....Good luck to all you racers.

kkcbelle - 2010-04-13 5:57 PM All right, crew... Criticize our yellow paint (I picked it & I love it), the laundry basket (hubby's), the newspaper (mine, I'm behind on my reading), the cat (cute, isn't she?), the water bottle (mine -- it's pink!), the gold-bottom'ed purse (daughter's -- she's almost 8 and is a slave to fashion), the old man (visiting father), the younger old man (husband), the saddle position, and anything else you want... I don't care cuz I GOT A NEW (green!) BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Presenting my 2009 Scott Plasma 2 10!! Additions include a Cobb V-Flow saddle, Look Keo 2 Max pedals, and a PD mount. Ain't she purty??!!!

The cat looks impressed...

Seriously - that's a pretty bike!

Congrats!  The bike looks awesome.  And the cat is trying to figure out how to f' it up.  I know I have 2 cats!  :-)

Back to the land of sitting at my desk where I have plenty of time to post.

So you went with the Scott Kyla, very nice, I always like the way they look.  I take it the seat clamp worked out for you?

We have an Acura MDX that holds kids and bikes and a Saab 9-3 convertible that holds me and takes me the 10 minutes to work.

As far as spouses and training I could see how a spouse that doesn't train could get upset at the amount of time it takes.
Sam and I are pretty much right on the edge with schedules, we try to coordinate every day on what each of us has planned.  She tends to swim before work, I swim at work, we ride at nights, she tends to run during the day at work and I run right after work before she gets home.  On the weekends we have to alternate our long rides.

99% of the time it works out well, we have plent of time to spend with the kids, eat dinner, train and sometimes sleep.

Suzy, I am getting a bit nervous about LS, all the pollen in the air has made some of my last few workouts miserable which of course tends to make me doubt my fitness.  LOL, I always have "it's my first HIM and I just want to finish" to fall back on : )

I am doing the Triangle Orthopedic Sprint 4/18. It is a 750 OWS, a 10 mile bike and a 5K. (Weird). I went over the bike and run courses last weekend. The bike course is a little like Dresden after WWII. I am treating this as a glorified training day. Last year my first race was not until June. So, no pressure, right?

Oh, I almost forgot there is a steep hill coming out of the water leading to T1. With forzen feet that is going to be intersting.

Kyla  - Your bike rocks!!! I love it!!  Same color as my old mtn. bike.

TJ - Highly recommend Augusta.  I did it last year and loved it.  If Louisville wasn't a month before I would do it again.  Very fast wetsuit legal swim, fast and flat bike course, and a pancake flat, shaded run.  Look for very fast times.  If I were doing it again, I would push much harder and look to break 5 hours.

Although I am still so jealous of all of you Lonestar people, I am really getting excited about my trip to the BVI that week.  I am so looking forward to practicing my OWS's in the Caribbean Sea.

I have my second run today followed by an hour on the bike.  I'm curious to see how my knee holds up for the second time out.

Starting my taper for Lonestar.  Getting a little nervous but more mentally bummed at the moment.  I came off a solid 10 days of workouts to feel totally drained and muscle tired.  The pollen sucks around here so I don't know if that is adding to it.

I need to give myself a kick in the a*s and get it together.  I did have my final big meeting w/ my coach yesterday to finalize the Lonestar game plan.  We agree and nailed the nutrition plan but for the race plan I said what I wanted to do and he very nicely gave me a different race strategy.  LOL  So now I need to put all of notes together and send it back to him for review.  I sure hope no one bothers me at work today.
