Hello downers.

What a weekend it was.  Ran with 11 great guys on a 200 mile relay across south Texas.  It was by far and away the coolest most awesome race experience I have ever had in my albeit brief racing career.  And when all was said and done we had surpassed our team fundraising goal of $12,000 for The V Foundation for Cancer Research and had raised over $13,500 by the time we crossed the finish line.

Got back to training on Tuesday as I have an Olympic distance race in about a month, and a HIM two months after that.  No rest for the wicked.

Challenge:  For the month of April I intend to try and eat completely clean with no processed food or grains.  Just the basics, Meat, Veggies, Fruits, and Roots, with no planned cheat days for the month.  This is going to be very tough for me as I love my oatmeal in the morning.  I addition to that I am going to restart my burpee challenge on April 1 as it was sidetracked by a finger injury.  So I guess that is two challenges.  My birthday is Sunday so it will be one last hurrah before giving it my all in April.

....so "whose coming with me?"  That's me channeling my best Jerry Maguire

I was planning the same thing so I am in! (of course minus nutrition during a few races I have) What exactly is the burpee challenge? 1 a day building daily?

No I had read about it somewhere.  Basically its about a 15 minute HIIT workout.  Set up a timer for 1 minute with 30 second rest breaks with 10 workout intervals total.  Go as hard as you can doing as many burpees as you can in a one minute session, rest 30 s and write down number.  Go again for a minute, rest and write for 30.  So on and so forth for the remaining 8 intervals.  Total up your grand total of burpees and post daily.  By April 30 your grand total should be way up along with your lean muscle mass, and hopefully your waste and body fat percentage will be down.

10-4 on the nutrition challenge being off during races.  I need my Gu's and sports drinks.  I have a race April 28 so it will be close to the end anyway.

Are you doing eggs, too? So it's like a Whole30/Whole Life/Paleo challenge? I'm already a month into a Whole Life challenge and have 16 more days - not that I'm counting

As for races I thought I would need sugar/carbs, too, in the form of my standby gels and sports drinks. But I did a half marathon about a month ago on dates and water. I had some turkey jerky (sugar free, nitrate free, etc.) but only ate a few bites, it was harder to choke down. But dates? They are an amazing race food. Try it in your training!

I need me some eggs, especially if I am 86ing the oatmeal.  I have to have those jokers from time to time.  Besides I think cavemen ate eggs alot.

I'd never thought of dates before.  I'll have to give them a whirl.

I have never thought about dates I will have to try those out. Going to do sweet potatoes pre workout too and see how that goes.

I'm in for clean eating next month.  I did great for most of this month, not so much this last week...  I'm going to be meat free, but will still be eating dairy (cheese and yogurt), eggs (usually 1/day), and bread.  I love my sandwiches!

I've been popping dates lately before my runs (i bought a BIG tub of them at Costco).  3-4 dates is ~100 cals of nature's finest sugar and carbs, just as good as some HEED as far as I can tell.  Combine that with water and I'm good to go.  I have a recipe to make some peanut butter/date bars (Lara bar copies) that I plan to make here soon.

Sorry to break up the momentum of the conversation, but it's FRIDAY!! Weigh-in day and I'm in a good mood 'cause even though I didn't do as well as I could have with diet (exercise was pretty good) I still lost a pound! I'm down to 123 lbs. Oh man...3 lbs away from my goal weight and I CAN GO SHOPPING!! (Seriously people, this is what is motivating me right now. Spring fashion.)

Hope you are all doing well.

Well I knew it would happen eventually and this was the week. I actually stayed the same. But had some great workouts so very positive about that. Hopefully next week I can report a better number!

I'm with Chris.  Over the last 2 weeks I haven't lost much of anything.  Diet has been fair (always room for improvement).

This week I was only doing Insanity while the 2 previous weeks I would run/bike in the morning and go Insane in the evening.  Wasn't getting enough sleep so I dropped the morning work but will go back to that starting next week.

I'm down .5 for the week. 4 pounds to go for my 3 week target date.

LisaC: Yes, some months are terrible. I have no idea what happens there, but sometimes I am just starving. Not for anything in particular, just starving like I haven't eaten enough. I have read that there is a metabolism increase so maybe that is the connection. It just doesn't seem like a slight increase in metabolism would make me feel so hungry. Usually a piece of dark chocolate and some peanut butter is really satisfying.

Well downers I am down 2 lbs from last week back at 204.  Long grinding race this past weekend but was an awesome experience I would do again in a heartbeat.  I'm sure that helped, and also had a good week of workouts and maintained my diet fairly well.  I don't know what my upcoming birthday celebrations hold for me but I do know that the month of April should be great for me.  What with preparations for and the running of an Olympic distance tri (first one ever so you know I'm gonna set  a PR hahaha), clean eating, and my burpee challenge.  Two new threads will start Monday (clean eating, and burpee challenge for all those interested).

Hi All, sorry for being MIA again.  At the moment I'm just focusing on being consistent with training and eating.  I will get back on the scale but for now it's just one more stress for me.

I am in. This month was a win some, lose some (not weight, though) month. My health is better (knock on wood). This is the first month in the last 9 that I haven't been in-the-bed sick! Other issues are being addressed and hopefully fixed. The steroids added wt, but I hope to get that under control by watching food and upping workouts.I was doing good on the workouts, in general, but this week with hubbies surgery and being in the hospital kicked that to the curb.

I can't promise no grains but I can promised no refined grains. I am going to try the burpees and see if my wrists can handle them, if so. I am in They are a great full-body exercise.

as for weigh in, I am down 2 of the 6 I gained from the steroids. Sheesh!

Formal training plan starts monday and will be back in the pool....

of course the weight could be bloat from having gluten yesterday....

Don't have anything to report about weight - same - 165.

Did start my training plan yesterday, I can hide a lot of my body with clothes, but I really want to loss weight to be an athlete (and to live longer). Main goal is to do my workouts each day, secondly to try to make good food choices each meal.

I don't even want to think about what I ate today - had my hubbys family over and everyone brought a dessert. Someone even brought a plate of peeps. Why was I the only one who couldn't resist the crunchy sweetness!? I sent them home with some cousins.

Beautiful tattoo (and I am a tattoo person...wish hubby wasn't so adverse - got my 2 before I got him!)

You're coming down for Rev3Williamsburg?? I'll likely be there as cheerleader extraordinaire for hubby's first Oly (unless the kids have something going on that weekend that need my chauffeur service).

I didn't quite meet my March goal of 155 (at 156.4 at the end of last week, a little higher this morning from the weekend) - too much cheating, methinks.

April goal - sub 150
And real focus on clean eating. Portion control. Cheat meals, not cheat days allowed. And smart cheats, not stupid, mindless, stress-driven ones.

Starting to get invigorated for race season and I want to be at "racing weight"!

ETA - stupid formatting tricks
