This week my training group, The TriDads, decided to end the summer with another group race (we're training for Gulf Coast), and picked B2B.

During sign up I got the unexplainable urge to sign up for the full...SO I DID! Never done one.

Because I'll be bringing my family, can anyone who's done this race tell me the best area to stay so that the finish area is convienient for my wife and little kids (though I'm not sure they'll be AWAKE when I cross the line).

I asked this question a while ago on the b2b forum and got some good ideas. Haven't yet figured it out myself, tho...

I just switched from the Holiday Inn to the Hilton, based on last years event booklet. I would rather be close to the finish. The Hilton is like right across the river from the finish

This will also be my first Iron. My husband and I had signed up together but he will be deployed until 2 weeks before. So he is opting for the half...

We are very excited!!

Thanks for the responses! My wife is on the case.
This whole lodging thing for the few out of town races I'm doing is kind of a whole other job to get straight.

I am thinking of signing up for this.  I just did my first HIM in NOLA 70.3 last month.  This distance is a different animal though.  Just not sure.  Yikes.

Brian,

Ask your coach.  He's a smart guy and will know if you can get to where you need to be by November.  Obviously you can train with Neal and I if you want.

Did I say he could train with me?

BTW, I am in too.  This will be my first IM.  I will be doing my first HIM at Augusta in September.  My biggest concern is running and nutrition.  I have never run more than 10 miles at one time in my life.  I will run 10 for the second time next week.

I hope I am not in over my head.

Third IM for me. IMAZ 07 and IMFL 09.  I live in Augusta and I'm going to do the HIM during training for B2B.  FlyingTiger is doing the same routine (training partner).  My first IMAZ was my first run more than 17 miles!  IMFL was my second marathon.  You can do it.

Just signed up today...I have alot of family that lives right there and really plan to take next year off from Ironman training so decided to go ahead and go for it.  Im not fast as an athlete but my recovery is typically fast so think I will be fine.

For anyone interested, here's the NOAA Predicted Tidal Range for Wrightsville Beach on 11/07/09:

http://co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/data_menu.shtml?bdate=20091107&edate=200...

(That's a long address - I hope it works as a link)

Basically, the upward moving wave means the tide will be coming in while we're swimming. That's a good thing.

Welcome to the party Jungle Jenn I am glad to see a familiar face.  I hope everyones training is going well.  My training is right on track but I sure dread the heat comming back here is Augusta Ga,  Mid 90's already.  It sucks but I guess I can't complain to much at least I get to train almost all year outside without fear of snow.  Keep safe everyone and have fun.

Hey guys,

I am in again for 2009.  Last year B2B was my first IM event.  I can't say enough about the course and the organization.  We are staying at Wrightsville Beach (Sunspree) this year.  Last year we stayed next door at the Blockade Runner.  Both are very nice and reasonably priced.

I am planning on a 45' swim on the race course for Thursday morning.  Love to have a crowd with me.

Here is my RR from last year if you want to get an idea of what I experienced.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

James, did you have family with you at last years event?  I was curious how easy or tough it will be for the wife to get around town.  Were staying in Wilmington, and can walk to and from the water taxi, but think the wife will want to hit the T1 area to see me finish the swim (as I understand it all ready the swim start is to crazy for her to see the start which is fine)

I'm sure after T1 she'll either try to find me on the bike course somewhere (any suggestions) then probably go back to our rental where she can walk to town and the water taxi's to see T2 and the run.

I'm sure I'll be looking for a swim and hope we can have a decent BT get together while visiting the area.

Steve

Steve,

We were staying at Wrightsville Beach, so my wife was at T1 no problem.....plenty of parking.  About 7 hours later she was waiting for me a T2.  We were not to familiar with the bike course, so she didn't try and find me during the ride....although, it seemed like there were some family members out on the course.

The run is a two loop event so Whitney was planning on meeting me at the halfway point but fortunatly I was ahead of schedule.  The main purpose was for her to relay the UGA vs florida score to me....thank GOD I didn't see her...we got killed.

The finish line is great and unlike WTC events it is not so crowded that you can't find your loved ones.

Look forward to having another BT meet up at the Friday dinner.

James

Hmm the 140.6 also must be sold out. Won't let me register.

PayPal site is all screwy. Anyway ... I'm in. Yikes. I'm going to have to train for this one I think.

I was looking at the official B2B site today and highlighted a few AWESOME things....So I wanted to share...

The water temperature will be in the upper 60's to low 70's - perfect for wetsuit use. The Half Iron distance athletes will begin at 8:30AM in order to allow the full athletes to be well past the start line for the half.

The bike course is totally flat (FREAK'N SWEET!!) with the only elevation change taking place when participants finish the bike course by crossing a bridge on the way into the second transition area located at the historic Battleship North Carolina.

One of the featured aspects of B2B will be the run course aid stations. Located every mile along the 13.1 mile loop, each aid station will serve a variety of food, drinks, and energy products to assist each athlete.

Being that many competitors will still be out on the run course after the sun sets at about 6PM, the entire run course will be lit by portable light towers to compliment the existing street lights.
