I'm not sure if I am Bib# 887 or 888.  They gave me two Bib#'s and charged me twice.  Wasn't that nice.   Active.com is correcting it.

Random double post.

Dude! Don't cancel the second bib. You could qualify for Boston TWICE and then give the second registration to me! Laughing

Just a short announcement:

This race in in jeopardy for me due to Achilles tendon issues.

Same here, but for a calf strain.  I am shutting down the running until the race; calf strain a couple weeks ago running in cool weather, just came on gradually after a mile or two.  That seemed to be OK, THEN lower calf on the same leg started hurting last night after two miles.  Tried compression sleeves, ice the first couple days, then moist heat.  And foam/stick rolling.

The new issue might be from "babying" the calf, I might have modified my gate enough to screw up another part.

This might be weird, but do people from BT ever meet up for a beer or food after a race? Or is there some unwritten rule about virtual reality not meeting reality, like matter and antimatter colliding?

Like that scene in Time Cop...

I once met a guy from BT after a race, and he gave me these sunglasses.  I strictly stick to the boards ever since this happened....

Question for those who have run Philly before...Is there a best spot to meet up with family after the race?  I am sure I am not going to be feeling up to walking aimlessly searching for my husband.  I read somewhere that there are country flags somewhere and that it is a good idea to pick a flag to meet by?  Anyone know where these flags are and is that a good idea?

Thank you.  That helps a ton!

OK more questions from a first time marathoner...

We are staying about 1.7 miles from the start/finish line at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott.  Should I plan to walk to the start line in the morning and walk back to hotel after the race?  Is there a way to  get back to the area of the convention center after the race with out having to walk it?

Does it make sense for my husband to walk with me to the start line early in the morning? ( I really don't want to walk all that way alone)

Should I plan to have a change of shoes for immediately after the race?

Any other advice/tips?

How easy is it to pick up your bag from the bag check at the finish line?

Philly Marathon #4 for me, this is home turf!

We are staying about 1.7 miles from the start/finish line at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott.  Should I plan to walk to the start line in the morning and walk back to hotel after the race?  Is there a way to  get back to the area of the convention center after the race with out having to walk it?

I would strongly consider walking. All the streets will be shut down in the vicinity of the course. You might have luck finding a cab, but there are still the closure and cleanup issues. It's really not that far and it's good for your legs. Honestly.

Does it make sense for my husband to walk with me to the start line early in the morning? ( I really don't want to walk all that way alone)

If your concern is safety, it won't be an issue. There will be police cars blocking the intersections. and there will be a large number of people on the streets also walking to the start. If you want his company, that;s a different story.

Should I plan to have a change of shoes for immediately after the race?

Not really, what would be the reason?

Any other advice/tips?

Have fun, and don't get sucked into keeping pace with the HM runners getting ready to finish as you come down West River Drive.

How easy is it to pick up your bag from the bag check at the finish line?

It depends if UPS is doing it this year or not. If they are, it will be amazingly efficient. If not, it will take a little longer but it will still be OK. You realize your husband could hold your bag after he walks with you to the start.

Thanks!  I didn't see a reason why I would need other shoes after the race but kept reading all these other sites where people change into flip flops or sandals after the race and wondered if that was necessary.

If my husband does walk with me to the start line I guess it would be easiest to have him hold my bag for me then.  I didn't know if it would be quicker to grab my bag from the bag check to put warm/dry clothes on then go meet up with him or not.

Just call it Taper Madness and you're an old pro!

One more tip: if there is any chance you might need the porta-potty get in line around 45 minutes before the start. Yes, the line will be that long. I missed the start two years ago because of poor planning. Now I live 3 blocks from the start, and wind up with bags and a bathroom queue at my house from my running club.

+1. I ran the half last year and got to the start an hour early and got right into the porto-potty line and still ended up sprinting to the start as the last of the green wave was departing. On the plus side, it wasn't too crowded since 99% of my wave was already gone...

Was sick all week. Have not run consistently since Marine Corps two weeks ago. Felt better this morning and managed 12 miles. I really needed the mental boost. 1 week to go.

Got my last Medium-Long Run in - 12 miler, w/ 7mi @ MP.  I was thrilled to get this last run in because I missed several runs last week due to a sore hip/groin.

An Ironman and a Marathon four months later is a tough juggling act.

Funny, I keep hitting refresh but the weather doesn't change on your post

At 7am it should be around 50, it shouldn't hit the high until 3pm or so. I'm assuming we will be off the course WAY before then!

I can't believe I'm still coughing. I thought I'd kicked this cold. One more thing to OCD over.

Took me a solid 2 weeks to recover from that cold and I still feel like I am not completely over it. All the weather outlets seem to be in agreement for Sunday. Slightly warmer than I prefer - would like high 30s for the start - but i will take it considering other alternatives. Good luck to all.

Careful what you ask for: it was bitter cold a couple of years ago. Spilled water at aid stations was freezing and creating nasty patches of black ice.
