And I love the word "whilst"It were the trainer for 30 minutes this morning followed by 20 minutes on the tread mill. Made 2.5 miles. Ten pounds less feels like a million bucks whilst running. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN reneehoyos - 2013-05-04 6:05 PM NAME: Your username / first name reneehoyos/Renee Hoyos STORY: Who you are, why you want to triathlon, any athletic background/noneI'm 48 years old and started training for a triathlon last December. I really like to run (mostly on trails), swim and bike and after a couple of years thought - Why not do all three at once? I started doing outdoor sports: rafting, skiing, hiking, climbing in my 30s but I was always the last one to camp on the hike and am am a bit freaked out at big rapids, ski rather slowly and I had a climbing accident about 15 years ago, so I don't do much of that anymore. However, I love to exercise. I know a little about good workouts or sports specific nutrition. I eat really clean and I get a ton of sleep. FAMILY STATUS: Family situation (single/partnered/family) Single 2 catsCURRENT TRAINING: If/how you have been training So farI've been following some sprint tri schedules. I'm only training a couple of hours a week right now. I really have to train in the morning, which is a tough motivator because I like to sleep more than anything in life. I've got a long vacation coming up so I'm trying to work workouts around that. I'll be rafting in Hell's Canyon and out of touch for about 10 days at the end of May. I do tend to throw a workout day on the weekend out the window if I get to go hiking or boating. Just saying.THIS YEAR'S RACES: If any2013 RACES: If unsure, what kind you're looking at or your training goalsI've got sprint tris scheduled monthly July - Sept. I might need some help transitioning to olympic distance training.BODY COMPOSITION: any reshaping goals you have or achievements (weight reduction or otherwise)I'm 5'5" and 125 #. I really like myself a little thinner say around 118 - 120, but I'm not sweating it right now. I figure I'm in my winter body and with the weather warming up, I'd rather be outside riding or running. You guys sound like a ton of fun and very motivating. I hope I make the cut! Hi Renee! A ton of fun, heh. That's a very nice way of putting it glad you're here. |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN Me too, me too! Manatees FO LIFE! Woot woot! NAME: ArielLilB/Brie (I love the Little Mermaid, Ariel is not my name) STORY: I am a 31 year old woman from north of Boston. I am a lawyer, but I don't like it. I like writing and doing graphic design-y stuff, and planning parties. I also immensely enjoy making spreadsheets for various reasons, including making decisions (new bike, vacation spots, etc.), keeping track of guests, shopping. Another passion of mine is endurance activities, hence my BT involvement. I wasn't a runner as a kid, mostly just played softball (well, it was the only sport I was good at) and rode horses (still do). In college I started kickboxing to stay fit. In law school I didn't do much of anything, occasional cardio sessions at the gym. After law school, I was working full time and I quit a second job, and had a lot of free time. I got a flier for Team in Training, shortly after I ran 4.5 miles (farthest I had ever run!), and though, gee, training for a half marathon and raising money could be a great challenge to pass the time. But then I thought a half marathon seemed too achievable - I knew I could do it if I trained. But a MARATHON - now that terrified me. So I signed up, trained all summer, and ran the NIke Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October 2009. That gave me the racing bug, and I trained for another marathon in 2011 to raise money for pancreatic cancer, since my dad had been recently diagnosed. After that, I entered the world of triathlons and found BT! I've been a member since December 2011. FAMILY STATUS: I am married to my DH of 1 1/2 years, James, and we have two kitties. We are hoping to move soon, and maybe add a dog! CURRENT TRAINING: I have had a great off season of training and feel so much stronger on the bike and the run. I am training for a fall half marathon PR of under 2 hours, which would be a 12 minute PR. But I think with a full summer of training I can do it! THIS YEAR'S RACES: I've already done several 5Ks and a half as part of a winter/spring race series "Will Run For Beer Series." 2013 RACES: Next race is June 1 (duathlon) and June 2 (6K, last of the series), then a sprint tri in July, 10 miler in July, maybe an Oly in August, probably some other race in late Aug/Sept as a tune up, then the target half mary on Oct. 13! BODY COMPOSITION: Since January I've been going to Weight Watchers meetings and I've lost 15 lbs!!! I can see TRICEPS on my arms!! I feel so much better and my clothes fit and I know it makes my workouts better. Welcome new manatees, and I'm so glad so many Manatees are back too! Edited by ArielLIlB 2013-05-09 8:57 AM |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN QUOTE] Rev3 Venice again, as I had a great time doing that this past year. However, a certain Manatee has been riding me about racing this year, so I will probably fo the Oly. I prefer to think of it as gentle nudging and you're lucky I didn't ride you about doing the HIM. . Actually, this is the firmest commitment I've heard about you doing the oly, so I'll take it! |

Now on way home from dropping off my bike for tomorrow. After, we detoured to tri shop and found my first tri shorts and top. Wheeee!!! Feeling so accomplished! Now the OWS ( at 6:30 am in a neon green swim cap) just has to go well so I can kick my fear and do the full Sprint in two weeks |

I've been "lurking" on the site for a few weeks and spotted both you & Jen (comments) in different forums/race reports. Hoping to connect with you in the future to see if we can chat more re: your opinion on RMS! I actually really liked Pink Power. I think it's a good tri, especially for beginners. The bike course has a few hills, but it's not too tough. Same for the run course. |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN A bio... NAME - Jo Baxas - screen name jobaxas - what an imagination STORY - well triathlon came late in life as did fitness generally - it was the addiction to replace smoking. Since i moved to Australia from the UK in 2003 I've been into running big time and have completed 2 full marathons and countless halves. Then came triathlon and big dreams of Ironman. I have completed one HIM 2012. March 2013 was to be my first Ironman in Melbourne but the wheels came off. I developed a phobia of my bike! Well riding outside anyways. so with a sad heart I withdrew from IM Melbourne. I am a confident swimmer, I love swimming - it's all down to one piglet Coach John Van Wisse. He turned me into an OWS addict! Riding - well I've a new friend who takes me out and keeps me safe - piglet Andrew Read (sensing a theme here) Running - slowly plod through but getting quicker Other information - I'm known as the Stalker, somehow I sniff out pro triathletes and end up friends with them....as Yanti how it's done she seems to do the same thing. My ultimate triathlete hero piglet is Terenzo Bozzone. YUM. Family Current Training I'm on a BT Custom Plan for HIM in September. Going well. I have weeks where I don't meet my target but it's a stretch target anyway. So it's pretty much swim 3 x, ride 3-4 x and run 3 x. Upcoming events. August - Sydney City2Surf (14km run) March 2014 Ironman Melbourne Body Composition - 15lbs over where I should be. Lost 5 of those this week following a No Sugar No Grains regime - tough but good. Oh possess melons of notable size. |

Veteran 1100 Dayton | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN Oh hey, a new thread! I found it! So I was cruising along on Friday on the bike trail. In aero, holding steady at 20 mph. I typically pass people and don't get passed. I hear a buzzing sound behind me, and think, "Am I getting passed? That means..." And then there it was. A guy on a tri bike cruising at 23 mph (I know because I tailed him to see how fast he was going). Hafta say it was cool to see another tri person out and about. There's the goal! Need to work on the legs and get those few extra mph.
