I've done a 92 miler with a 3 mile brick and a week later did a 102 mile ride (no brick on that one).  Both rides were over 20+ averages on the tri bike with about 75% of that aero to get used to the position.

I've done 4,300 continuous in the pool with the wetsuit (well, not truly continuous as I stopped every 500 to take a drink).

And I've done an 18 miler as my longest run with a bunch of 10 - 12 milers throughout the weeks.

This week and next are light because of the build I've done and because I want to have a decent oly. race at the Annapolis Tri on the 9th.  Then it is back to business and getting ready for Chesapeakeman aqua velo and my first "real" test to see how my FL prep. is coming along.

Hmmm...Reviewing your participant list, I'm not doing the 07 IMFL although the BT Nexus shows me racing but my BT training log correctly has me in the 2008 race? I am volunteering this year to sign up for next year.

I will be cheering hard for all of you doing this year's race!  See you there...

You'll easily be able to identify my wife and kids. They'll have yellow "Operation Go The Distance" shirts on. My dkids may actually have on their "OGTD" cycling jerseys so they will be very easy to spot!

I'm racing the Annapolis Oly. this weekend, so last week and this week are lighter to help the legs recover a little.  I want to be in the sub 2:15 range, but we'll see how the day plays out ...... then it's back to longer distance stuff.

This past weekend I did a 4:45 hr ride/45 min run on Saturday and a 2:14 hr run on Sunday. I am recovering faster, which is very good.

I have the Duke HIM on September 16th as the last prep race for FL.

Train smart gang!!

Is it really only 8 weeks away!  Damn this year is going by quick.

The base is built for me and I'm hitting the long hours of training now with the long distance stuff with some occasional race pace stuff.  Only one heat related meltdown over the past 30 days but I knocked out 120 on Saturday and I've got an 18 mile easy run tomorrow morning.

Anyone else eating your family out of house and home?

Enjoy that Duke HIM!  Hope that the temps are going to break for you...though the run course is pretty well shaded when you're back in the trees.

My long rides are coming along nicely (although I had some heat problems on Sat's 93 mile ride).

The swimming will be just fine.

The long runs are in need of some serious work for the next 8 weeks though.....

Trying not to stress.....

I am thankful that it is starting to cool a bit. At least it is in the 90s instead of the 100s. The 2 rides I did over 100 miles were both in 98 degree temps and just wilted me by the end. I am so excited that there is less than 2 months to go.

For Daremo and anyone else who has swum 4000+ in the pool, was it your typical indoor pool? I haven't tried that yet as I was afraid of overheating. Our local Y pool is usually about 85 degrees.

Kimje,

My pool is 25yds and about 84 degrees. Take a gel and sip water the hour before and you should be fine.

Good luck,

I'm in the same boat.  Our Y is a 25y pool that is kept warm for the different older adult exercise classes with temps in the 85 to 87 range.  I don't seem to notice any issues with overheating on my 4000 continuous sets.  I down a lot of water when I'm done though.

Mine is usually in the low 80 range.  When I did my 4,300 yards a few weeks ago, I did it in the wetsuit.  Just stopped every 500 for a drink and to swish some more water through the top (I have a Desoto T1 2-piece suit so you can slosh water in between layers easier).  But I was glad to get the suit off at the end!  I was definitely toasty.

I can't imagine that swimming in 85 degree water with a suit would be very safe for that distance. I am curious to see the more knowledgable opinions on this one.

Is there not anywhere else that you can practice with the suit, like an open water venue?

Have you not ever used the suit before anywhere else?

I have worn the suit several times before and have no problems with it. I was just thinking it may be good to do the whole distance in it once to see how that would go, but maybe it is not needed. The only lake here is just as warm right now.

I'm in as well. Didn't realize there was thread going! I've been using the periodized beginner plan from this site so my long stuff seems shorter than what I have been reading here. Longest long bike so far is 4.5 hours (78'ish miles) and longest run so far is 16 miles. This weekend is another 4.5 hour ride + 30 minute run and then an 18 mile run on Sunday. Did a 2 hour bike and 1 hour run this morning. Based on my experience at the California 70.3 earlier this year I have really been focusing on brick sessions. I have been doing as many as possible with both short bike/long run and long bike/short run sessions. I really got hammered on the run during the 70.3. Finally it seems to be paying off as this morning's run seemed pretty easy. I find I get in a groove after about 2-3 miles off the bike.

Over the next few weeks I have the upcoming 4.5 hour ride...then next weekend 5 hrs then 5.5 and then two 6 hour rides....before starting the taper. The old arse ought to be nice and sore or nice and hardened at the end of these upcoming weeks!

Swim wise I have been fortunate to be doing my long swims in the ocean here in Southern California. There is a nice two mile ocean swim from Corona Del Mar that I have been using so I don't have to do them in the pool.

One thing I have noticed lately...except on weekends I am really doing quite a bit of training in the dark now....hit a can on my bike this morning about 5:30a....luckily no damage but scared to crap out of me.

Good luck to everyone...even though I prefer to train alone it's nice to be able to share training experiences with others from time to tim.

I wouldn't think you would need to do the whole distance but maybe half would be good. By 1.2 miles or so you should know whether or not the wetsuit will be uncomfortable anywhere. Also, be sure to rinse it thoroughly as I would think the pool chemicals are harsher than even the salt water on your suit.

Of course if mentally you would feel better doing the whole thing in your wetsuit than I would do it...we all know how mental this whole event is....

I have a question for everyone....anyone else book their flight through the Ironman Florida web site? I booked mine a while ago and was supposed to get an electronic certificate for free bike shipping. No surprise that I never got it. Now I am trying to followup with customer service at US Air and I have submitted an email to North American Sports...just started checking on it but so far nobody knows nothing

I was prompted to do it by an email for a bike transport company....and thought I better check on it.

Thx.

I can't help you with the NAS/US Air issue, but if anyone hasn't booked their air travel yet I'll throw out the suggestion of flying in and out of New Orleans.

New Orleans works out well for us because we're going to visit friends and family in Pensacola, FL and Gulfport, MS to and from the race site. But the cost of airfare and rental cars is so much cheaper that I would strongly consider it anyway.

Roundtrip airfare for under $200.00 and a mini-van for 10 days for under $400.00. Obviously they're trying to boost the tourism to the area, and it works. We've decided to add another couple of days and spend the time in NO before flying back to Portland.

2.5 hours chasing person after person at US Air....finally found the person who could help. Still don't have the voucher but it's supposed to be on the way. Probably not a bad idea from a cost perspective to go through NO. How far of a drive is that though? I paid $1800 RT for the four of us to fly into Tallahassee from LAX. Ouch. These life experiences are expensive One reason I'm chasing this free voucher to send my bike....another $160 otherwise. Could use that in the Ironman Store.

Edit: Just received the voucher Good thing I've been training for an Ironman or I might not have had the fortitude to find my voucher!
