I'm freaking out already y'all

Dear Trevor,

Congratulations! You are now registered for 2010 Ironman 70.3 Lonestar. Please check the event's official website for updates: http://www.ironmanlonestar.com

OH YEAH BABY!!  ITS THE HALF TOO!!!

Is anyone racing on Saturday or are we all in the 70.3?

I think it's going to be you and I Andy...We'll be dragging up the SWBKRUN rear in this thing. Honestly, you wer ethe reason why I signed up for the 1/2. If you signed up for the 1/2, I had to HTFU as well!!!

Way to go Trevor. You'll d great and be finishing well ahead of my time this year.

Congrats to everyone who has signed up for the Lonestar

roni_runnw - 2009-10-13 3:41 PM Ramping up the miles for the 50k is going pretty good. I've logged 75 miles so far this month. They've been slow, and I'm being pretty cautious about it, but I'm getting closer to where I should be on the training plan. I've even found some trails to run... figured it would be a good idea to actually do some trail running before doing a 50k trail run

Roni- It's all about pacing!  I couldn't image trying to figure out what pacing would be for a 50k trail run.... Speaking of trail run.  We missed you last week!  Next time you are please give me more than an hours notice and we will hook up for sure !!!!  Just one bit of advice.... Please hit the trails soon.  It is very different running on trails than road.  Believe it or not your are working different muscle groups trail running.  Plus your ankles need stregthening-- HIT THE TRAILS!!!

Sorry about last week, Steve. I know I didn't give you much notice, and then I got your reply too late. We were only in Tacoma for 3 days, and had just got back from Butte, MT (seeing my daughter off to boot camp). It was a crazy couple of weeks with an even crazier travel schedule. Next time we're in the area I'll definitely give you more notice. We'd love to meet up with you!

You are way too right about the trail running. I quickly realized how different it is after going for my first trail run after signing up for the 50k Surprised Who signs up for a 50k trail run before doing any trail running?!?! Apparently, me. Embarassed I hike... I run, but I had never really mixed the two. I have found some trails to work in to my running here in Walla Walla, and I'm trying to increase the mileage on them gradually, because, as you mentioned, it works different muscles and my calves and ankles have a tendency to get a little cranky. One good thing is, from what I've heard, the trails for Woodside aren't very technical. However, there is about 4500' elevation gain, ouch!

Why are you not running in the BLUE MOUNTAINS everyday!!! That is great stuff!!

I'm right there with you Roni. I want to get in on Lonestar. Just got to figure out how to raise the small fortune to get there and the time of work a that time of year. Heck it's only a 2600KM drive.

Anyone ever had any pain/soreness in what I think is the achillies tendon?

After my 18 miler seems to be a bit sore, made it through most of my workout today before I noticed it.  This close to the race I decided to bag the rest of the workout so as not to make things worse.  Felt fine for most of the run and could have run through it but doesn't seem worth it right now.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be.  Very aggrevating to make it this far in the marathon training and just now having any pain/soreness.

I get tenderness inmy left Achillies from time to time. RISE helps me. Mostly ice and raising it up.

Hey Tony--squeeze the tendon right above your heel.  Does it hurt? If so, achilles.....what about higher up in the soleous?  Take a look at this site for some great info on how to relieve the problem.  Rest will help, but loosening up the area is critical to functionality.  You aren't a stomach sleeper are you?  If so, try the back.....the goal is not to shorten the area at rest which is why Doug likes to keep his feet elevated.

We have to work BT into the shirts somehow - without this great site by marmadaddy and ron, we would not all be on a course to mutually assured destruction....

Thanks Suzy/Doug.  I will work on those things.  Doesn't seem to be anything big but makes me nervous that it could get worse.

Agree with Doug / Suzy.  I had to go to PT earlier this year and lay off running for 3 months because of AT.  Now, my achilles feels much better, but after long runs my soleus is really tight and sore the next morning (like right now).  Same as most injuries - RICE works for me.  The sleeping thing is a good point too.  It's better to keep your toes at a 90 degree angle as opposed to pointed.  A friend gave me a special "boot" to keep this from happening.

Sorry Sam....I totally understand the snoring thing based on our "situation"!  Tony, you could also try taping your foot as if you have PF.  Keeps that foot in a neutral position.  Ever since I got PF I do it every night and for every run.  Should you decide to try it, I can give you the taping instructions...super simple.  My opinion is the boot and sock are a total pain to sleep in.  The tape, no issue.

HAHA I read that as tapping your foot. thinking it was some sort of stretch, so I was sitting here tapping my foot then re-read the post.  Yeah let me know how to tape it up : )

I'd like to hear the taping procedure as well, Suzy.  Currently not having problems, but have in the past and you never know when it'll happen again.

Another suggestion...if you have a footboard on your bed slide down to where your feet are against it and so that your ankles are at 90*.  It may be strange for a night or two, but you'll adjust really quickly.
Now, I don't have to slide down to reach mine, but I figure most of you will.

Hey guys!  I am so far behind right now.  I'll try to get caught up on what everyone's up to over the next couple of days (taking some half days at work so I should have some free time).  Work has been really busy - always seems to happen when I schedule some time off.

Anyone doing anything interesting this weekend?  I'm going to be running a 10k.  My first race since my half.  It's supposed to be pretty cold Saturday morning.  What happened to the fall weather?  We went straight from 80-90 degree days to 40-50's!  At least it's not supposed to rain.  I'm hoping to get my daughter to run the 5k that morning but don't know if she'll want to do another race so soon after her XC meet on Friday.  I think she'd do really well and maybe it'll help keep her interested in running over the winter.

Back to work - have a good week!
Janet

Suzy- Thanks for posting the site, and I'd love to hear the taping procedure too. I've battled achilles/soleus issues my entire adult life due to tip toe walking as a kid (still do it sometimes when I'm not paying attention). I stretch and use the stick on my calves, but mostly just thought it was something I had to live with. If I could actually regain dorsiflexion and not have to deal with the pain and tightness while running I would be a very happy girl!

Good luck on the 10k, Janet! Have fun! I hear you about the sudden change in temps. It hasn't given me any time to adjust. Normally, I like running in the 30's, but not when it was just 80 a week ago!

I don't have any races this weekend, just going home to Kalispell to watch my oldest daughter's play. Her grandparents are coming to stay for the weekend too, so it'll be a busy one. Somewhere in there I also have to get in 30 miles of running.

Good luck Janet!

No real exciting workouts for me this weekend.  Sam and I are going to the Redskins game on Sunday.  My company has season tickets and I always forget about them, so finally going.
