Goooooo racers! And have fun spectators!

I will be racing a trail-ish 5K tomorrow. Going to try to remember to use a HRM to get some baseline data too. Like woah.

I have been watching the Paralympic coverage and loving the heart of those athletes, and hearing their back stories.

The network coverage (or lack thereof) of the women's triathlons was HORRIBLE. For one of them it was a brief synopsis of who led at the end of each leg and of course, the sweep.  But the one for the visually impaired triathletes all they showed was the finish! Didn't even mention how the Americans placed! Yet they give start to finish coverage on goalball?!?!?!?!?!

One of my coach's athletes (an army vet with one leg) got the bronze in the women's tri for her division at the Paralympics, so there was at least one USA medal there.

Heading out to run. Pool is closed this weekend for repairs (boo, hiss!). Hoping weather will hold so I can do an MTB joyride tomorrow. With three HIM in four months, there hasn't been a whole lot of joy-riding recently. I probably should take Tank (MTB) to the shop today to make sure he is up for serious off-road stuff.

Yes, my bikes have names: Besides Tank and Rover (tri bike), there is also the White Terror (Trek road bike) here in Vietnam, as well as Baby (Trek roadie), and the Blue Bomber (Jamis hybrid) in the US. Was going to sell the White Terror, but I might have a chance to do some group rides later this fall and winter, and will also need him for Thanyapura, so keeping him for now. Hate to sell a bike with a triple cassette--you never know when you might need to ride up a mountain! Maybe for Alpe de Huez someday!

Good luck, racers!!

Yeah, her medal was part of the podium sweep. I was happy for all of them.

Its the same here. When the Olympics were on there was almost 24 hour a day coverage across 4 channels. For the Paralympics one channel from about 6:30pm through the night.

I saw a little bit of the wheelchair fencing last night - man they are fast.

On back stories, the lady that was the guide for the gold medalist in the vision impaired category turned 47 on the day of the race. She won silver in the triathlon in Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Hey Manatees do any of you wear De Soto or Coeur tri gear? I have put on a bit too much weight since I brought my tri shorts and I don't think I'm gonna be able to wear them, which sucks cause they are basically brand new.

A lot to catch up on.

-Go racers!

-Love the bracelet. Great design and color choice.

--I think we are hard wired to try to impress those we find attractive. At heart we are all middle schoolers, we just get better at masking it.

Our youngest daughter had a cross country meet on the Michigan State campus yesterday. We took Friday off and spent the night with Daughter #1, she has her first "Big Girl" apartment. It was nice to spend time with daughter's 1 & 2. They were good enough to bring some of their friends to the race and give daughter #3 a nice big cheering section. She raced well, but was just outside of top 30 and placing. She wasn't happy with her time, but she was racing against 300+ girls.

An impressive thing there were three sisters who finished 1,2,4. I think that is good running genetics. They are a senior, junior and a freshman.

One funny thing I noticed about myself yesterday. I ran on the campus yesterday morning. As I was running I noticed that I would skip around manhole covers, and each time I would think, I have to avoid that it could be icy. When I realized what I was doing, I had to laugh at myself, because the only time I run near manhole covers is in the late fall and winter when they could be icy and it's risky to run on them. I figured we spend a lot of time in our own heads when we run. I was wondering what weird little things do the rest of you do, swimming biking or running, that you can't explain to normal people?

Good luck, racers! Have a blast and smile for those cameras!

Melanie and Mary S. - I'm going to try to be there on Sunday. I'm having a bit of trouble with my back because I hit one too many potholes on my race last weekend. If I can tie my shoes on my own I will be there!

Coming off of a tibial stress fracture in 2000, stevebradley made his way into triathlon. Now he has over 60 triathlons completed and is one of the most active mentor groups on BT.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
