What really kills me is the neoprene cap strap chafe (and prior to my new Louis Garneau aero helmet, also helmet strap rash). Because you all know how fond I am of blinding pics of myself that make people go ARGH Anyway, I put waterproof medical film (waterproof bandage, but it's thin, totally clear, and very sticky ... mine was an English brand called Opsite Flexi-Fix) along my jawlines for IMNZ and NO CHAFE. It was still on after the bike! This kind? http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Nephew-OpSite-Flexifix-Transparent/dp/B000PQAYZK Is it more or less the same as Tegaderm Edited by jmkizer 2013-04-12 9:58 AM |

OK, I can remember that I mean, technically, if you're using it for chafe, it shouldn't matter, BUT the waterproof kind REALLY sticks and doesn't come off. I mean, that is kind of the entire point of being waterproof, and then also very important if you happen to be using it in a triathlon or endurance event. |

Notably, a young man with a tattoo on the inside of his lip that said "eff you" that will be in the lovely cast of the Jerry Springer show on Monday. You just can't make this stuff up. I started to respond to this, then realized I really didn't have anything to say!Just take notes. Obviously I should write a how to book about optimal marathon taper. If it's guaranteed to Boston Qualify, sign me up. I'm in just for the drag queens. Marathon optional. My only guarantee is that you will have a hell of a nice time. Meh...that works for me. |

The midwives (who I see for everything OB/GYN) are gone today. My options were to see my midwife on Monday or see one of the OBs today. I opted for Monday because I'd much much rather see the midwife. The OBs were pretty rude to me the two times I saw them during my pregnancy. Muddafuggas. Makes you scratch your head. So sorry you can't get in 'til Monday They recommended 600 mg of ibuprofen every 4 - 6 hours. I am feeling a ton better now. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Erin, re swimming focus and breathing: I can tell you that focus on form is what makes me fast(er). If I try to go fast, it all falls apart and all I get is tired. Focus on form on Wed, I was cruising at under 2min/100, not even out of breath. If I stop the focus, I get more tired and end up above 2min. Breathing--when I first started swimming, I tried out a bunch of different rates. Every 2, every 3, every 4. I have come to breathe every 3 mostly, but if I need a breath at 2 I will take it, and sometime I go 4 if someone is passing. I worked on getting to bilateral, because it smoothes my stroke out, but that being said, I breathe when I need air. Hope this helps. |

This is the spare tire of my Jeep. LIKE!!!! I'm planning out races for this year, so I may have a 5150 on there before the end of the year. If I ever go further then that, you know the stickers will be on there. I may never get a tattoo, but I sure will put stickers on my spare tire cover. That's pretty awesome! What's a 5150? Olympic distance Pronounced Fifty One Fifty, as in 51.50 KM's, I think. Oh duh. I was thinking in terms of meters, not kilometers. |

I'm slow. For now. And I'm ok with that. I'm really trying to work on my form first, then endurance, and I figure speed will start to improve as I get more time in the water (at this point pool time is limited by daycare and kids' school/nap schedule). Am I wrong in assuming this? But as I do ponder the idea of speeding up some day, one thing I am definitely noticing is that my turnover rate is slow as I'm thinking about where all my body parts should be. But another reason (I think) it's slow is that I'm comfortably breathing every 4 strokes (b-L-R-L-b), and it's the length of time it takes to exhale fully in water to get a good breath again. So to speed up stroke means my breathing is thrown off....lungs not empty/not full breath, etc. (I hope this is making sense ) Do I not even worry about this now? Anyone else have this issue in the beginning? Is bilateral breathing something I should start playing with? (hahahaha! I just re-read these paragraphs and found it giggle-worthy to know that 6 months ago none of this would have crossed my mind...let alone be written down for a Pod to see.) Are you comfortable breathing on either side? That's an important skill. Can you speed up but breathe every 2 strokes? I'm not comfy on both sides, only right. That's why I was wondering if I should start "playing with" it. Is 6 months in early to try it? Could I incorporate "drills" for it starting at 25x4 for a couple of weeks and working up? I've tried every 2, but can't get air out fast enough to get a good breath back in. End up tired and out of breath. |

I've tried every 2, but can't get air out fast enough to get a good breath back in. End up tired and out of breath. Honestly, I'm a bit scattered right now (actually, most of the time, generally) so this may be terrible advice. But it's the first two things that came to mind. 1) Don't play with it. ONLY breathe on your left. You will force your body to get comfortable with it, to find ways of being efficient, to be able to breathe and swim breathing on the left. (You won't lose your ability to breathe on the R so no worries!) This can only help overall in terms of balance, body position, etc. Of course it's going to be uncomfortable and awful and frustrating. Most changes are. Even so, you are building up swim strength, core strength, and breath control. All good. 2) Do shallow-end waist-swimming. Find water just deep enough so if you stand and bend over at the waist, your top half is in the water like it would be doing regular swimming. Now, in this position (but still rotating hips a bit to mimic the swim positioning) practice bilateral and/or every-2 breathing. Do it until you can do it. |

I don't feel so alone So when did you start working on breathing 3? I breathe only right usually (I can do left but it's not a natural rhythm). As far as getting the breath out and in while your face is out, I was taught to breathe out under water so that when it's time to breathe you are just taking air in. Try to keep it very relaxed, when you are pushing out and gasping in (what I used to do) it is very frantic and gets your heart rate up unnecessarily. Try humming out underwater, it helps relax your mouth. |
