Best of luck guys (and to Mrs TankBoy).

We'll be there with you. Just a lot more comfortable and a lot less suffering. But we're there :-)

Rusty and wife are such great people. It was fun hanging with them. If you ever get a chance to do a race that they are racing be sure to meet up with them.

So Ironman Lake Placid tomorrow and yes it will be front row and center. I pray that it will be safe and fun for all.

Well cr#p on a stick....   After my RETUL fit I decided to make my life more complicated, and find a new saddle for Canada that would help with some residual numbness after long rides, in places where numbness ain't good.  Not totally numb, but definitely nerve issues.   Adamo prologue and attack - nope.   Tried the sitero.  Seemed to work for a few rides.  Did a 100 miler two weeks ago, a 70 miler last week, and was decent

Not today.  100 miler and 4.5 hours of it were pretty uncomfortable.  Not sure if it' just a (TMI) current ht spot issue, some current irritation, or whether the saddle just does not work.  I could suffer my way through 112, but it really affects my mental state, and my riding style, negatively.   I had some other things going on this morning, a headache that lasted through mile 60, neck and shoulder strain, so the whole ride was just uncomfortable and not strong.   Bit of a confidence killer.  The run off the bike felt OK though, so the fit and power stuff still sorta work....

I know no one here can help as it's a personal issue, just venting a little.   Will likely have another 6 hour ride next week and seriously thinkng about just going back to the old saddle,

it's always something with me.....

you have a road bike as well right Chris?  do you have issues with that bike?  Or is it just the forward position with regards to the seat that is doing you in?

Exactly.  The saddle is comfortable to ride, but it aero the nose is long ans tends to sit in a not so comfy place - eta - I actually have the same saddle on the road bike

Chris...Okay this might totally be TMI, but I'm just going to ask this being pretty blunt...

When you're using the Adamo saddle, are your boys hanging over the front end of the saddle?  When I first used it I had no idea that's how it was supposed to be ridden, and I thought the little space between the nose of the saddle was supposed to be a little "pocket" where they should sit.  I spent almost a year riding like that (had to angle my nose slightly down) before realizing my mistake.  Moved the saddle back about 2 cm and it has made a world of difference riding the saddle how it was meant to be used.

I'm probably about 90% sure you already know this...but just making sure.

James' T1 was 5:50.  Nothing up for Rusty yet. If you have any pull with the weather gods, it would be a good day to call in some favors. Forecast is scattered T-storms. There are a couple fronts moving through. BUT, it's the mountains so those cells can bounce around and will hopefully stay clear of the racers.

Absolutely! Someone has to stay home and byotch about IMLive not working. In addition to Rusty and James, there are about 6 ppl from my tri-club up there racing this weekend. Another dozen or so volunteering or working the med tent. My fb page has been inundated with photos. What a beautiful venue.

I can do that job. Yell

I stayed up late last night stalking people at Vineman, so I am a little slow starting the stalking for Lake Placid.

Great to see them all off to a fast start.  The next stretch has them doing a bit more climbing.

James - 1:23:53 (18.6 mph)

Big climb on that section.  Looking good!

so signed up for a race on Sept 1st, called the Jerome Hill Climb.  Starts at 4891ft and ends at 5967ft over 4.5 miles.  Looks like a nice steady climb.  Should be fun.  In that painful sort of way.

Now off to sign up for the Sedona Half marathon in Feb.  I have another race in mind for Sept but I can sign up last minute for that one.  It's also a HM, but a trail run

Update on me, and it is is not good since I am writing it - hah.

First DNF - experienced these crazy lower back spasms through the whole swim, then in T1 mishandled my bike a bit. Nothing out of the ordinary, really: I was running with my bike and had to kinda jump from one side of the back wheel to the other in the crowd and just as soon as I did that it felt like someone jabbed in the low back with a knife. Rolled on out on the course, but the first little climb out of town was pretty tweaky in my lower back. The only upside was that it was the most comfortable in the aerobars - I couldnt sit up on the horns. When I stopped a couple of times to try an stretch out I it was difficult to stand up straight, and when I would finally get upright then I couldn't bend back over. Made it up the climbs and back into town, but it was just getting worse and worse and I knew there was no way I could run, so rolled into T2 and handed in my chip. If you ever want to DNF, then I highly reccomend you do it early - there was no lines and no waiting in the Med tent, and the medical crew spent about 45 minutes with me. Docs said it looks like I have a locked SI joint, whatever that is. I guess my own doc is going to be busy with me this week.... Ah, well, so it goes.

Other than my own personal issues, the rolling start is super - I lined up right at 1:05 and was in the water in about a minute-and-a-half. The weather is actually OK - temp is currently about 70 degrees, and it was raining pretty steady for the Keene descent, but fairly dry after that - drizzling again when I went in the med tent, but it looks like it has stopped now. Thunderstorms may be rolling in in an hour or two and for the rest of the day/into the evening though.

Quick shower then out to cheer for Ms. TankBoy, James, and the rest of the BT crew.

Aww, that sucks Rusty!

SI joints are nothing but trouble.  Probably smart to pull out when you did though or you would be in much worse shape later on.

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
