Hands, you plan to share your winnings with us, right?  Remember all of the support that we've provided to you!

"One of the three winning Powerball tickets was purchased in Central Florida, according to CNN"

Had I won the jackpot I planned on being very generous!  Alas, I won a big $4 and that was with a pool of running friends!  So, I get to buy 2 more tickets. This time I'm sure I'll (we'll) win!!

Don't let her fool you, this is all a smoke screen. She'll disappear to a cabin in NC shortly

That's okay, i'll find her.

Yanti - so glad to hear your friends/fam are safe.

Kinsgley - welcome! How have you not been an official Manatee yet?

For my update...sounds like I'm the big winner out of the group. $7! Read em and weep guys...I'm headed to 7-Eleven for a chocolate milk and the jumbo bag of pizzeria Combos.

And now for my training question: so I've been plugging away since spring building up from nothing, and doing quite well with it. Starting soon here I'll be switching to a real training plan! Nothing fancy, just the BT 3x Sprint 16 week one. I like that the run and cycle volume build up so gently, which is what I need. But my swimming is a bit beyond that particular plan. Can I get some suggestions of how I should ramp up my swimming from where it is now to an eventual 1500m swim at the end of the season? My logs are up to date if that helps anyone with tips. My concern is that while I can swim a pretty decent sized workout now, I don't really get how that translates to swimming the full distance nonstop, and need some confidence and planning help.

Thanks!!

Do you do flip turns? (serious question)

So do you want to ramp up to be able to 1500 straight or are you more looking to get faster?

Your logs say you swim 2-3 hours per week, which should be more than enough to get through a 1500m swim. Just because you don't do long "intervals" doesn't mean you couldn't swim 1500m straight right now. If you're worried about it, just swim 1500 straight one day to boost your convenience.

The one caveat to that is if you don't do flip turns. In open water there's no wall where you get to get a big breath when making a turn. That can be a game changer for some folks.

If you're looking to get faster, then up your volume to 3000 per session and incorporate more REALLY FAST 25s & 50s sets to build speed strength.

Yes, I just learned flip turns when I took lessons in the fall. That combined with 15 years of playing oboe, and hypoxia and I are good friends!
I think you hit it on the head with confidence, as that is what I'm nervous about. Obviously I'd like to know I can swim longer distances, and would love to get faster, but knowing that the distance isn't going to wreck me would be nice!
One of my goals for the year is to slowly build up to 3000 yard workouts, so nice to know that was on the right track.
Guess I just need to do a long set one of these days to get the monkey off my back!

Ahhh, an oboe player! From my years of playing and teaching, I recently realized (like last week, actually) that while swimming I'm not exhaling all of my air under water. Therefore, when I go to take a breath I'm not getting adequate new air. I switched to breathing to a 2/4 pattern and that's working better. Similar to playing the oboe, you have to exhale before you inhale, especially through the turns.

On your flip turns, make sure you are exhaling through your nose throughout the turn. It's almost as if you're blowing your nose. I know, gross, but it works.

Sean is correct in that you have to incorporate more fast 25s and 50s. I hate 25s and 50s because I'm so not a sprinter but I know I have to do them. In fact, my swim Saturday is 25s. lot's and lot's of fast 25s. Build your distances, with maybe a few long swims during the week with at least one swim of 25s and 50s. You'll be able to do the 1,500 with no problem!

For everybody racing this weekend, have fun and don't crash.  For everyone nursing broken bits, take it easy and get better soon.

Thanks Robin! I'll make sure to embrace 25s and 50s this winter/spring!!

Hi all!

Thanks for the support. I didn't get D12 this time, but it has the ability to upgrade to that down the line, so perhaps it's a modification for the future :-) I'll put some pictures up when I have them.

Right now I'm trying to get back into the routine (around all of the other stresses in life) to build up my base fitness again before starting a true IM training program. I updated my training log and am a little ashamed So it's a bit of a wake-up call. Tomorrow morning I'm on my first training session with a local triathlon club and I have a call later with Mike Ricci to potentially enlist him to help me along the way.

Either way, even with the lack of regular training recently, I'm still fatigued so I'm guessing maybe I'm not fueling correctly or my body just isn't used to training regularly any more. Hopefully it will correct itself!

This is going to be one long journey.

FYI Stace Face and I are NOT go-ing. She is firmly on the DL and I would be (from some of you) if we went to the race

I think that your body just needs to get used to the training thing again. Keep at it and it'll all come together.

Jim I'm not sure what a Witchy Wolf is, but 15 miles of trail sounds like a blast. Have fun!

Kirsten I'm not sure why you're stomping but I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

I finally broke down and ordered a dedicated trainer tire today.  This comes on the heels of me realizing I put my bad spare tire on my bike.  I'm almost out of durable spares, so why not.  It's bright yellow, so there's no chance of mixing it up with any good road/race tires!  I also ordered some Rip Van Wafel's coconut waffles.  Mmm, so good!  I love Stinger waffles, but the coconut simply rock.

Sounds yummy (the waffles, not the tire (tyre?)).

The drug trial was not a great option all things being considered.  Next Wednesday morning I go under the knife.  Minimum recovery time with absolutely no running, biking, or swimming is eight weeks.  Plenty of time to get ready for an Olympic end of June.  Wouldn't be fast but it will probably be a very emotional and rewarding day just getting through it.

Good luck racers and hope to be on top side of the list sooner.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
