Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by JBacarella We arrived in Tulsa today. I will get my bib number tomorrow when I check in. The Covid protocol had us schedule a check in time and they give us bib numbers then. I think because of COVID deferrals they don’t want to commit until they know who is really going to race. Woo hoo! You made it! For all of you who want to track Jim, he's now in the Ironman Tracker app. Happy Stalking! |

I definitely made the right decision, but I always sort of kind of wish I was racing when a big event comes up. That is how I ended up signing up for IM races to begin with! Of course, during the race I always kind of sort of wish I was at home |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, i finally heard from the IMMT 70.3 which was scheduled for June 27 - it is now postponed to September 12. Which i am relieved to know. Quebec is doing well with covid but has lifted very few of their lockdown restrictions so it seemed weird to think that in just 5 weeks they were going to be having a triathlon of that size. This works fine for me. I am happy that i might get more than a couple of weeks of swimming as we are still locked down here (covid numbers are starting to drop and we have a very high vaccination rate - just took some time to get supply in) and pools haven't been open since November. The issue is that with this news i feel like stopping training for a week or two before picking it up again! |

It seems like a sound decision to postpone the race til September, but I'd be a bit upset they waited til about a month out to do it. So, I'd take a little break too or I'd be too burned out well before race day. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wonder if that might happen with Calgary 70.3 too. In any case I can't take the time to go once our school year starts just after Labor Day. I just got a mailing from IM today that seems to indicate I'm still entered in my alternate race (Washington 70.3) on Sept. 19, so will probably aim for that instead. Still no word about Oregon. I keep hearing that things are going so well elsewhere, but our case levels are still quite high despite some of the tightest restrictions in the country. (Locally, mainly due to wild campus parties.) The university is requiring vaccinations for next fall so hopefully that will help. We are also actually supposed to host the Track and Field Olympic Trials so wonder how that's going to affect things. (Weird but true, I've heard NOTHING on local news on if/when these are taking place!) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing well or better. I will read some previous posts to get myself back to the game and learn what great things are happening to you, and hopefully provide some support to those who may need it. As you recall, I had an unexpected surgery at the beginning of March. It took me about two months to fully recover to be able to exercise. I tried sooner, but ended up with some minor pain and fatigue, and decided to wait more and fully recover. In a meantime, I developed something on my toe from the very tight climbing shoes. I first thought it was wart, then corn, then something else, so for months I was trying to fix it with all sorts of different medications, and it was only getting worse - to the point I could not even wear shoes (it was the smallest toe, with the "thingie" on the outside, touching the shoe). I finally went to the doctor and he gave me some painful treatment, but after few days of more pain I was finally able to walk, run, etc.... So am now back to the training. Other than that, I have been super busy with work and school. I put way too much on my shoulders, and it's the time to admit it... I joined so many organizations and initiatives at my workplace, I am barely able to complete my regular work. But some of it is getting slower now, so I have more time for other things. I have also just finished my first semester at the University of Colorady, with an A. Studying and writing also took lots of my time, but I was really happy with the class and the instructor, and I truly enjoy learning about the subject (I am studing Ethnic Studies). Kids are finishing school next week. I am fully vaccinated, and am getting my son too, as CDC now allows vaccines for kids over 12 (he is 13). As some of you may remember, my son has Autism (high functioning). This year has been absolutely fantastic for him, and he made a tremendous progress in social communication and interactions. Super happy about that. I am looking forward to read your updates, and am hoping this is the year when some racing is going to happen. I miss coming here on Fridays and cheering the races! Those of you who are recovering or experiencing some health matters: I wish you speedy recovery and tons of health. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here are some things: Bib number: 349, no I didn't sign up as a 20 year old. Under the scheduled time protocol, I was one of the first people to check in and that was when I received my Bib number. Tulsa is a lot nicer and has more to do than I imagined. It is an underrated vacation destination. I was getting concerned because everything has been going smoothly, but today it happened. I went out on my check ride this morning. Not even a mile into it I leaned over to get into aero and SNAP, one of the arm rests for my aerobars broke off. It's a combination between age of the bike (11 years old) and me riding it on the trainer since October. The bolts corroded. It gets to go visit the mechanic today. I will have the bolts on the other side replaced too. I my warped brained when things go wrong going into the race, I'm going to have a good race. |

I saw a clip of a couple of the pros checking out the bike course and both said it was a fun, fast course. I hope you feel the same way at the end of your ride! |
