Started with one from a number I didn't know that said "God you are incredibly desirable"... and it just got weirder. And super-cryptic. He gave me a name I didn't recognize. Then, when I asked for a picture or something to see if I remember, he sent me to a LinkedIn profile with a different name (first and last). Won't really specify where/when we met. I think it's time to just ignore it. Responded in your original thread. Yeah. meant for that to go here. 9th day straight in a cubicle, and things start to get weird. Ok... he "thinks" he met me at a restaurant - won't specify when ("a few months ago") or where ("Arizona"). Gave me two different names for himself - one that "he uses for his writing". Found me on LinkedIn, where I apparently have my phone number visible to contacts... and decided to start texting. Gems include "would it offensive if I told u I'm fantasizing about u?" and "Would u like to be a long distant friend?" This is a joke... right? It's gotta be Cord or Pitt..... Not me: I"m old school and don't eCreep. I go person to person. You should see my raincoat collection. |

Would it be worth looking for something new? Maybe get out of there before anything bad happens and you have a gap in your resume? Not that hurts you THAT much. Everyone understands there could be gaps over the last 5 years. I am "looking" but unfortunately can't afford to not work. But yeah... keeping my eyes and ears open FOR SURE. Yikes - sorry to hear about the layoffs, but really happy that you're safe. I hear ya on the can't afford not to work... I know that we CAN live off of one salary (hopefully Tony's as he makes more) if we have to, but it would make things awfully tight again and it wasn't a comfortable position to be in. I know, it makes me really think about finances and saving more. I'm so bad about saving! Been there before and ended up taking a lot of our 401k and the taxes suck that go with it when you don't have any income. We ran out of savings, and the only money left was the 401k. Didn't put anything on a credit card though.

This totally sucks. Sorry, Dave Is your line of work something where relocating or telecommuting is an option? How far away are you looking? It is less than ideal, but my brother once took a gig where he had a two hour commute each way.... it was something, though.

That's where I am. I'm going to call someone in Lebanon, NH today who thinks he needs a PhD for what I can completely do well. That's a 5 hour drive from here and would be an apartment and a weekend daddy. I also need to see how financially stable his company is or if I could possibly rent some lab space here to do the work. |

They've actually said there will be MORE layoffs coming Dave Ramsay would say YES that an emergency $1,000 in savings is the first step before even paying off debt. His "snowball" method for getting out of debt is pretty solid. |

I am sure it will turn your way soon. I looked at possibly working 8 hours away at one point and coming back every other weekend to see my two girls, but that meant missing EVERY high school event, and I decided to take on two low paying jobs and working a lot of hours to see my girls grow up. Good luck in your search and hope it ends soon and you get to see your daughter a lot. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know quite a few people these days that work in one city while their family lives in another. As such they're basically weekly or every 2 week commuters. For them it came down to do we as a family want to maintain the same lifestyle and the main earner be willing to 'commute' or do we downsize our lifestyle and the breadwinner settles for something less. I reckon there's no right or wrong answer but we all do what we have to do... Good luck Pitt. I hope something comes your way soon. |

I worked for a European company and did two weeks in Berlin, two weeks at home. The money was incredible but it cost me my sanity and marriage. Looking back it was the worst decision of my life. I know a fair number of people who work 3 days in another city and telecommute the other two days. That's quite workable, if you can find the opportunity. I hope this works out for you too, Pitt. |

I can't think at the moment. How old is 9th grade? 13? So had her at 40? I'm 44 and wife want some, but not now. I'm starting to think that ship has sailed. I don't want to be 75 when they graduate HS. I'm going to be too old to whip their but playing sports when they are in HS too. |

Anybody have any fun plans for this weekend??
Hmmm... it will be a training weekend for me with a 5-6hr ride on Saturday and a 2.5-3hr run on Sunday. I've got this little race coming up in about 6 weeks that I'm trying to get ready for... I was going to say. This is hell month for you. All kinds of long stuff. I don't miss it, I must say. I wouldn't mind some long rides just to ride - with groups or something and lots of rest breaks. I HOPING cooler weather will get me more motivated to get outside. Looking forward to some fall/winter MTB riding. |
