All the while the little number keeps repeating... 4-4-4-4-4, 5-5-5-5-5, etc. You get the idea. Some distances I don't have to count, but I do pacing games. Like 200's... the way to race a 200 is to go out hard and strong, then push the 3rd 50 HARD, then bring it home with all you have. So I just go into race mode (even for easy 200's) and just know how I should swim it, with a focus on that 3rd 50. |

I've had a big time job opportunity thrown at me and won't know anything until around mid December. The scheduled start date is January 1. If any of you like golf, check out the link below. And if you don't how about telling us about a habit you are changing or trying to develop to make you better than ever? I don't have any bad habits. Seriously, though... thinking on this one. On the running front, my latest obsession is with cadence. I'm trying to hit 90 every time I go out, whether it's an easy run, tempo run, long run, whatever. I've learned that I tend to slow the cadence way down when I run easy, and with the 90 cadence I need to shorten the stride a bit. It feels weird. I've also weaned myself off of running with music. Started leaving the tunes at home when there was a lost bear roaming around our parts and I wanted to be able to hear if he jumped out to get me at O'Dark-Thirty. Found I liked the peaceful running and it was easier to focus on my form and such. I'll likely drag out the tunes for longer runs (although when done with friends we usually talk for 2+ hours before we go into our heads), but I'm enjoying the break from the noise. I'm a big tea-drinker in the fall/winter afternoons and evenings. My two fave flaves these days are Zhena's Gypsy Tea Fireside Chai (rooibos blended w/spices and ginger), and Trader Joe's Ruby Red Chai (spiced rooibos). The TJ tea is awesome iced in the summer, too!! Fake sugar is bad, Suzy!! If you're gonna indulge, just go for the real deal. That's how I roll, at least!! OH i'm a BIG tea drinker too!! Those two sounds delicious! I'll have to go check it out. I love Chai tea. Now I'm on a Pumpkin Spice Latte and Gingerbread Latte fix (w/steamed milk, not coffee...I despise coffee. bleh!). Although I try to only drink once a week...it's fattening....but who cares? I'll just run/bike it off. LOL! |

I signed myself up for some torture at our local hospital - a full cholestrol screening and body fat analysis. Now we all know I'm a wee bit neurotic about my weight - ok maybe a lot. So going to have my body fat done was not on the top of my list of favorite things and I hate needles. But to my surprise my cholestrol was 191 - WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO! Down 35 pts. from my physical 4 years ago when I was just getting into all this crazy endurance stuff. One good numer was so low that is didn't even register on the charts. And my body fat ..................... 20%! Another WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO. Now I know this number may not be great for some but all BMI charts put me at 25% and I guarantee that is a lot lower than 4 yrs. ago. And it's nice to see things like healthy and excellent next to your test results. So I guess all this training does pay off. Now I just need to figure out my abnormally low metabolism. Grrr! I guess not a big deal but it means I can't eat as much and this a BIG DEAL!!!!!! Good luck racers and I hope everyone has a great weekend! |
