Yeah, cold weather is tough on the bike. Once it starts to come, have to cover everything to block the wind. When it's 50, additional things I'll add to that are full-fingered gloves, ski socks, a second pair of small socks, possibly knee warmers, possibly shoe covers. Depends on the wind, cloud cover and the progression of the temperature throughout the ride. At road bike speeds there is no hiding from it, if you miss, it can go right through you. Playing it safe is definitely a good call.

Newspaper?

Heard of, but never tried it (I have stuff Wink). Is that something you'd want to do on a regular basis? Can't remember how much of that was a race tactic because of being wet from the swim.

Here ya go Chris:

Tuxedo Briefs

All I can think is "All dressed up and nowhere to go."

Formal pace booty Laughing

ooooooh! In that case...cuffs and collar?

Mmmmmm I like it!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Chriiiiiiiis?!?!?!?!?!

I am going to purpose a Silly Sprint Meet-Up (I need to come up with a much better name than this, prefferably something with an acronym, so work on that, k?) sometime next summer (spring, fall, whatever) in a centralish location.

The idea:

Travel to an easyish to reach place

Meet some BTers

Wear your silliest suit/kit, maybe some glitter--see the thread in the triforum for specific glitter details.

Have a fun, but not necessarily fast race (they don't have to be mutually exclusive) *coughBencough*

Hang out after the race (might be some drinking involved, maybe, possibly)

Just a little PSA

Hahahaha!!! Just read the other thread (as I attempt to conduct a long distance relationship with DH....how do people do it???). We usually do a KS trip in early/mid June. hmmmm...

So he gets free tri clothing from one for the year - racing suits, compression socks, sleeves tights and accessories.

Protein powder and supplements from the other as well as some funding.

Second tier sponsorship from a third offering discount on Shotz.

Next chasing up wetsuit and sunglasses and a bike box company.

This is fun.

Jerry Mags, I think it really cool that you are working on behalf of this young man. This is a freaking expensive past time, I can't imagine the costs for a young person trying to start out as a pro.

OK, notice a few things. 1) The man pictured above has very little discernible body hair. 2) The man pictured above has fairly well defined muscles. 3) The man pictured above resembles me in NO way at all. 4) Be careful what you ask for, I *may* have worn a formal suit of less size to a pool party with friends on a rather drink filled late night 3rd of July party.

I read an article this week about Captain Richard Phillips. He is the subject of a coming movie since his ordeal being held hostage by Somali pirates. His final line in the story is one that we might want to keep in mind for ourselves:

"Nothing is over until you choose to give up."

Today I choose to keep going. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. No matter what it brings, choose to not give up.

I forgot to mention a very important bit of good news ... after trying FOREVER, I finally got into

the SWIMSMOOTH COACHES NETWORK!!!

Let's just say there are benefits to being the world's greatest swimmer's consort Laughing

Other than that Kingsley is superlative in pretty much every category (except all the bad and useless ones), it's actually WONDERFUL to feel like a slow fat bumbling idiot next to him (when it comes to swimming). Why? Because I already live in a glorious riotous colorful world where swimming is concerned, and being exposed to Kingsley's experience and knowledge, and getting to train with him (and when in Perth, with his current coach) is like going under the rainbow to even more marvelous wisdom and adventure. I can hardly wait.

Today I gave up - chose not to swim and slept in. Seems to be a pattern. BIG day tomorrow though.

TGIF - can't wait until 5pm!

Have a great day.

Nice ride report!

I know that I struggle with what to wear when the season change.  I started to keep some good notes and that has really helped.  I sometimes think that it's partially mental.  In the spring 60 degrees sounds really warm and in the fall, not so much.  The spreadsheet reminds me that I was "comfy" wearing whateveritsays in the past so I know that it'll be OK.  That being said, I totally understand that it's no fun being cold and that this is supposed to be fun!

I was layered, but not enough apparently.  I had a long-sleeved compression shirt on, bike jersey, and then a hoody.  That kept me warm the first lap with the exception of the extremities (hands and feet were freezing).  On the second lap, everything was cold.

It is tough to figure out what to wear in what temp/weather conditions when the temp starts dropping.  Sweat seems to mess up my clothing choices, as in I'm fine until I start sweating heavily (which is a given unless I'm going 5mph) then things get chilly, especially if you stop for some reason.  Sounds like you and your friends still had a good ride and fun time!

Schpanks!

You people think *I'm* crazy?

Kingsley wants to do an Ironman (and the race, too :D ) he was talking to his sister about it today and she's like, "Heck yeah, I'm in, too!"

She's also the one who applied to work in Antarctica on a whim ... and she did.

Nutters, the lot of them. Love them so
