Still alive, Good luck Racers. I suppose I should log some of my activity. I have been getting some workouts in but not as much as I would like. Hope every one enjoyed their first day of spring!

Poking my head in for a moment during a busy week.  Kids on spring break.  SXSW.  Trying to get workouts in.  Oh, yeah, a little bit of work (but really just a bit).

So, GO RACERS.  Janyne, hope you crush it.  Chris, hope you meet up with friends (how long is the ride?) and have a great time.

Heal up DL-ers (a shorter list than the last few months have averaged, at least, but that's small comfort to those on it!).

Took the family to SXSW today (OK - this will be obnoxious, but it was such a blast!).  Drove in, parked one block from Key Bar, walked right up to the stage (we were on the sidewalk, as the kids are too young for the bar - they were carding at the door... which was very un-Austin, by the way, but the rules are stricter during SXSW).

I mean like THREE FEET from the edge of the stage, at stage level.  It was like being ON the bleedin' thing!  Saw Melanie Martinez, The Ting Tings, Lifehouse and Blue October before heading back home before the rain started.

So amazing to be able to do this and share it with the kids.  <gratitude>

If I get the photos off the stinkin' iPhone, I'll post a couple.  Just nuts!

Anywho, off to grill some burgers.  Hope you all have great weekends!

Matt

GI woes are an ongoing problem. It's been going on for at least 8 weeks. I don't have celiac, giardia, C. Diff, a parasite, etc. I do have massive stomach pain and cramping when I eat bread, pasta, etc. Anyone have experience with low FODMAP diets? I'm considering it.

Yes! So awesome Matt. It's so hard to describe sx to those that haven't been. Did you get lots of free booze and food? I didn't pay for either then ENTIRE week when I go. That may bd more challenging with under ages though. I'm surprised you found an all ages venue. They are super strict during sx. how was blue october? I haven't seen them in years.I

I'm at home sick I came home from work early and slept a couple hours then ate dinner and slept like 12 hours. I'm skipping both of my workouts today. I figure may as well rest up rather than staying sick for weeks.

I know you're writing in English, and this sort of thing is actually starting to make sense to me. Sometimes, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Even this thickheaded bulldog ...

Really hope the rest does you well and you're good to go soon.

Speaking of old dogs and new tricks, Kingsley actually DNFed himself today. He was doing ANOTHER Rottnest Channel swim (20km open ocean), which yes, he just did a couple few weeks ago, except this time he was also planning to ride 20km and run 20km after for a 20/20/20 triathlon (it's a thing here. Aussies are weird.)

The conditions were so bad that every single other swimmer and boat didn't even start.

His extremely seasoned paddler (who's a champ surf-lifesaver and OWSer himself) and boat skipper and mate were starting to puke.

I got the crap tossed and heaved out of me just going over on the 35m-long super stable ferry.

I also decided to pull out of IM Taiwan yesterday. Sponsors are cool with it, travel stuff can be refunded and everything can be rearranged to give them and Indonesia Tri exposure elsewheres later in the season (and with a much better showing and likely finish from me).

OK, it was really because my sister threatened to cause grievous bodily harm preventing my departure in case I tried to depart. Check that. She makes promises, not threats.

Old dogs, new tricks. Woof.

And yes, I plan to see Stace Face and her Seven Supersized Snausages soon.

Wondermoose, I'd strongly encourage the low-FODMAPs eating. It's not difficult and you'll know within days rather than weeks if it's going to make a difference. I know I'm going way out on a limb here, but have you had testing for MTHFR mutations/variant alleles?

Yanti...I just threw my name in the had to be a guide for a new to the area visually impaired woman. I'm not sure if our schedules will work or not but I think it would be a great opportunity. Do you have any tips or things I shouldknow?I imagine communication is going to be the number one. As I've mentioned, I've seen our local guy, Aaron and his guide. I just fear my lack of knowledge and experience might be an issue. I don't want my ignorance to come across as insensitivity.

Salty, that is awesome!!  TRUST.  She has to trust you---and that will come from clear communication.  I have been doing a study written by a woman who went blind as a teenager and there was a chapter on how she came to trust her human guides--as well as her guide dog.  She talked about people saying run right as they continued toward the left and things like that....

Jen, have you been checked for diverticulitis?  My bro went through 18 months of GI issues--he eliminated everything but chicken and rice trying to figure it out.  He thought he was gluten intolerant, fruit sugar intolerant, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink intolerant until he finally ended up in the ER and having emergency surgery.  The diverticulitis had been misdiagnosed for so long that the inflammation had caused a mass effect and blockage.  He ended up with a temporary colostomy, but since the surgery he has been completely fine eating whatever he likes (the 6 inches of colon they removed is where diverticulitis tends to happen, so since it is gone, so is his problem).  Something to consider.

I haven't.  At this point, I've had testing for just about everything else.  I'll add it to the list of things to consider.

Nope.  I have to have a colonoscopy soon anyway (mom got colon cancer very early), so they will see at that point if it is that.

I really think it's diet related, though.  It crops up when I eat certain things.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
