Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have had such an amazing day today, I just have to share. I did my first OWS ever and it went beautifully. Water was calm, weather was nice, I got to swim by myself (other people were there, just not around me), wetsuit fit well, and I didn't panic once. I can't wait to go again!! Then I went to a LBS I just discovered to talk about what to look for when shopping for a used steel frame to build out. Got some details, then went to a local non-profit that takes donated bikes and resells them, as well as having fix-it classes, a earn-a-bike program for kids, and a workshop that's open for public use. Found a frame there that fit all the parameters I had just discussed at the other shop. Paid $25 for a steel Trek 900 frame built in Taiwan and should be able to get it set up with mid-grade components for $500-600. I had been budgeting $1,500 for a new bike as a step up from my junker so to be able to get a decent bike for that kind of price thrills me to pieces!! Plus I probably won't have to pay the $175 for a professional fit because the owner of the shop builds custom steel bikes and really believes that "optimal" fit is "comfort" and will do whatever is needed to get the bike comfortable as part of the build-out price. I totally wasn't expecting to find a frame today. I was thinking it would take a couple of months of haunting the non-profit shop and Craig's List but I hit the jackpot the first time!! To say that I'm excited is a complete understatement!! (if you can't tell by all my exclamation points |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by JJ- YOGA UPDATE Ok wow, actually loved it. I wore my Ironman finisher's shirt because I knew I would be humbled and I though that would make me feel like I've at least done something...lol I think Ironman is easier Actually the instructor is a friend of mine and I had told her that I was nervous and so she did a one-on-one session. All my fears went away instantly. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and it did some amazing things for my hips and IT band which have been very tight. I highly recommend it. I will be adding at least one yoga session per week to my schedule. On the Friday 13th topic, I didn't really say this yesterday but I guess Yoga would be one of my fears but yesterday on Friday 13th I gave in and did it. Glad I did. Our gym used to have T/W/Th sessions, but got cut to only Wed. |

Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It would seem to be so funny, but that's a completely normal thing and sight here! Many of my friends (and some who I coach) keep their head and bodies covered for religious reasons (and interestingly enough, some of the men too race in full-body suits). In fact I think I have a picture of me a in a burkini here somewhere (pretty much looks like what you posted except mine is all colors of awful pink and neon stripes, of course) ... they are great to wear for anti-jellyfish / stingers. In addition to the other full-time jobs and 2 full-time responsibilities/hobbies I also have, I'm going into the modest-athlete clothing business. While the main clients are Muslim women, there are also Muslim men who want them, and many women here who for personal or body or whatever reason would prefer more coverage. The current stuff is usable, but is certainly not optimal, and for example the burkini material wears *really* quickly on the bike seat, not to mention being uncomfortable, and a lot of the material is simply stretchy stuff but not great as a tech or cooling material. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by IndoIronYanti The only issue I have with these suits is the requirement that women wear them if they want to run etc. choosing to do something is WAY different than having something imposed upon you.It would seem to be so funny, but that's a completely normal thing and sight here! Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() damn i can't keep up! Last week i was in Cairns watching the crazily fast Cam Brown win IM at the tender age of nearly 42. I got to meet Brad Kahlefeldt, Sticksy and hung around with my buddy Belinda Granger. My dream of being a professional pro stalker is slowly getting there! I did manage to run today. Woohoo. I'm still MAF training all zone 2, 6km. Still slow but it's getting better. I'm gonna make sure i get in here a bit more often. Sorry don't mean to neglect you guys but i'm so effing busy!
