As the pic won't even show up for me, I think you just broke my work computer!

that's weird.  i may have to try again, so i can ensure that i break your work computer!

You must have broken mine too.  Not that I'm checking BT at work or anything....

We are in the midst of the second thunderstorm of the day here at work, and as much as I normally love thunderstorms, I don't like them at work because it sounds like I'm sitting in a tin can when it thunders.  For some reason the sound gets changed and it's not deep and rumbly but, well, weird.  Hopefully it stops raining/storming before I need to go out to the car.  Ah, PA weather in the summertime!  Unpredictable at best!

Yeah, something's wrong!  Let me get us back on track with regular Manatee stuff.

I'm doing an Alaskan cruise in August.  Anyone done one?  If so, what excursions did you love/hate?  I'm booking mine now and my head is swimming (there back to triathlon talk

I have not done a cruise, but did live in Alaska for 3 years. What destinations are you looking at or visiting on your trip? Beautiful country up there.

Ha!!  That's okay, I'm pretty confused most of the time.  It's a sprint, but with a 4 mile run at the end - which is just mean, if you ask me.  And also not all that fun to find out when doing the race for the first time and at the 3 mile mark you're looking for the finish line and start to kind of sprint (but not really because my legs just don't DO that)... only to keep running... and keep running...  it's just MEAN, I say!

I hate when that happens!  You should have just stopped at the 3.1 mile mark and called it a day

But if I had done that, I wouldn't have finished, and gotten the t-shirt & medal and gotten to call myself a finisher!

Being slightly smarter than last year, I just checked to make sure the run portion was still 4 miles and they hadn't changed it to something meaner, like 5 miles.

It's been 4 miles since at least as far back as 2009. I don't know why they do that. There is a long out & back they could just cut out and bring it closer. Or reroute through the subdivision some more. It's not like there is some special feature they need to include as it's just more subdivision housing.

Around here, thunderstorms roll in every afternoon just in time to ruin any plans for an outside workout after work.  I either have to wait an hour or so after I get home or do something inside.  Waiting for the weather to clear is always dangerous; I have a particularly vicious people-eating couch.

Florida in summer = afternoon t-storms.

INFO FOR NEW MANATEES

If you haven't figured it out, we talk a lot. :-)  Fasten your seatbelts!  Also, we tend to be an inspiring bunch (as in, we use the "inspire" feature of the site a lot).  If you are not familiar with inspires, note that you can reply to them by clicking Reply.  This pops out a new window for you to type your response so that the original poster can see it.  Finally, most of us use the training log on the site (Yanti said that it's required: "Keeping up your training log here on BT and opening it to other group members is mandatory.").  This makes it a lot easier for us to help each other when training questions come up.    If you're not going to log or blog or whatever here on BT, please put a link to your training log in your BT Dashboard.

If you list your upcoming races on your training log  -- by adding to My Races or listing them in Dashboard, we'll celebrate with you!

We have a Google+ community that we use on an irregular basis.  Send your info to a returning Manatee (Janyne, Chris, Monica or Darren) and you will be added.

We have a Bike Gallery as well.  Post a picture of your racing steed and draw Chris' attention to it.  He'll get you added.

We have a Strava group too.  Let Chris or Janyne know and we can add you.  (PRO TIP:  If you decide to join the Strava group, check out https://tapiriik.com/or http://www.syncmetrics.com/. They will sync from Garmin Connect to Strava in the background.)

Oh, we're on Twitter too...

In the past, someone in the Pod (Yanti, Chris, Janyne) has created a table listing all of the pod members with links to their logs.  Once this handy dandy table has been created, feel free to copy/paste it to your own dashboard.

Please be active!  Inactive Manatees make us sad!

How well does tapiriik work? Now that Garmin and Training peaks sync I just need garmin to sync with strava. Does it work instantly like TP

Kids are 9, 12, 13 today (10, 12, 13 tomorrow and 10, 12, 14 in August - yep, pretty much on the 2 year plan).  They've moved 4 times already, and by now it's not a surprise.  I think they'll do just fine, but it's my job to worry (even if it's silly).  They're actually sounding pretty psyched about it, which helps the 'rents a LOT!

My family is here in Boston, and they're… well… non-plussed about our leaving only 4 years after coming back.  'Course, if any of them could offer me a job, maybe we'd stay.

Monica, you might beat us there!  We're shooting for the end of July so that our oldest can start with the band in August (will help the transition to HS, as band is a big deal there and he's quite the tromboner… and, yes, he hates when I call him a tromboner - and then laughs anyway).  Group BT rides in Austin!!!

Never been to Alaska, so can only contribute my envy.    Would love love love to go on a cast & blast (fishing and duck hunting) trip there.  Hope you enjoy the heck out of it (my uncle goes yearly and raves).

As for the grape grabber suits, I wonder if I'd be faster in the pool in those than in my jammers?    Can you just imagine?  (for your own sanity - DON'T!  As my daughter says, some things can't be unseen)  Ha!

I've had no problems with tapiriik.  It syncs about once an hour.  You can try it manually for free or pay $2/year for it to happen automagically.

Moths, yes I know they are harmless things, but they majorly freak me out. Especially the big ones with the spots on their wings, my uncle used to tell me they eat people's eyes out and that is how they get their spots. I know this is a croc but they still really freak me out.

Interestingly butterflies are fine.

YOGA UPDATE

Ok wow, actually loved it. I wore my Ironman finisher's shirt because I knew I would be humbled and I though that would make me feel like I've at least done something...lol I think Ironman is easier

Actually the instructor is a friend of mine and I had told her that I was nervous and so she did a one-on-one session. All my fears went away instantly. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and it did some amazing things for my hips and IT band which have been very tight. I highly recommend it. I will be adding at least one yoga session per week to my schedule.

On the Friday 13th topic, I didn't really say this yesterday but I guess Yoga would be one of my fears but yesterday on Friday 13th I gave in and did it. Glad I did.

Got a 50mi ride in this morning. Didn't go how I was hoping it would...not recovered from a party Thursday night, J forgot bike shoes so we started an hour+ late, hot/steady wind, poor fueling. Oh well, lessons learned and a week before the next one

Soooo...how many pages do I have to catch up on?

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
