I have many times thought of changing my username to "Overly Optimistic". That would describe a lot of my life, way beyond the sphere of triathlon! Hate to say it, but as far as illness, injuries, and training are concerned, particularly the older one gets, optimism is vastly overrated.

Being smart with your training is very important as we get older, I'll be finding that out at some point!

Thanks to everyone for the info regarding what you carry with you on race day. Also, heal up Manatees!

Yesterday I was lucky enough to have a manatee meet up with Janyne at our local Tri club season kick-off event. Great seeing you Janyne!

I didn't realize we had  manatees on the same tri team - nice!

Yay, a manatee meetup!  So cool you two are on the same tri team.  Manatee power!

Thank you all for the well-wishes for Coco.  She finally seems to be doing better and I've lifted most of her restrictions but still have a few of her favorite jumping areas blocked off.  That dog means the world to me, it's such a relief to see her back to her usual happy, playful, loving-life self.

I am so jealous! So near yet so far. Though, there is no way I could ever get myself enough cojones to join a tri group. I always feel like the imposter athlete!

Ok. Brief note. I'm sick. Gonna take a day off.

Good news is that taking a day off bothers me now (feels like I'm "back").

Bad news is that taking a day off bothers me...

I'll leave you to your waffling feelings of being off and just wish you well quickly!  Rest and heal!

Thanks for the well wishes!  Cough is quieting down, so hoping to get a good night's sleep tonight (finally!) and get back at it tomorrow.

I've used my non-working-out-time to write up the RR for the Austin HM a couple weeks back (here).

Nice to see some of you were able to get together and Matt, feel better! I had a horrible cold/fever and had to take 4 days off which is as long a break I've taken in a long time! Unfortunately getting back into it isn't going as smoothly as I would like. We're also moving homes on Friday so hopefully once we get settled and I can get my new pain cave setup I'll be back in the swing of things. I also wanted to report that I unfortunately didn't get a lottery pick for the NYC Marathon. Hopefully next year...

I feel your pain. I also had to take a total of four days off in February (and there were probably another six or so that I could/should have taken off, but didn't want to max out my sick leave). Think I had a total of maybe 14 hours of training for the whole month. That isn't much more than where I would usually be volume-wise per week at this time of the year (maybe 11-12). Ugh. Feeling normal now but I have lost a lot of fitness.

Happy Birthday, Judi.

Just an FYI, I have been less present with all things triathlon related, not solely BT. We have had a bunch of weekend activities that have made consistent training a challenge. I have been less attentive to consistent training during the week (ie, I just haven't tried). And I have some additional training responsibilities at work, which have seriously cut into my BT time. All in all, not a good combo, but I'll ride this wave into the shore and see what comes next.

I hope all is well with sick Manatees, injured pets of Manatees, moving and house renovating Manatees, and all other manner of Manatee.

I have been completely MIA from beginner triathlete. At first it was crazy because I was coordinating our regional medical conference. Thankfully it went off without a hitch, but now it looks like my work computer is considering the website suspicious. Fortunately I have been keeping up with my training through all of it. It feels overwhelming to even think of catching up with the thread

Sweet bike Adam!!

I forgot about the bike gallery, and I'm not sure I ever posted up a photo on BT of White Winged Fury once I finished the build. Hard to get a good picture of her because she's so fast, but managed one a few weeks ago.

That bike is so fast you had to chain it to a post just to get a picture.
