Janyne, I LOVED the pics. Split has been on our list of places to visit one day. Now I'm even more determined.

Originally posted by glfprncs I'm getting the Garmin Vector 3. They still haven't shipped, though. Supposed to be this week. EDITED: I am NOT getting the Garmin Vector 3 because I received an e-mail last night that the backorder is now extended until mid-May. I cancelled the order and then spent a lot of time talking with my coach and doing more research. I JUST ordered the Assioma Duo pedals. I also realized that if you order through Clever Training and add the $9.99 VIP package, it takes 10% off the cost of the pedals (so a $70 discount once you add the $9.99 VIP cost back in). Hope to have them by Monday. I chatted with one of the guys at www.powermetercity.com and they RAVED about the Assioma pedals. I was nervous about the rechargeable batteries, but I guess we'll see.

glad to hear Assioma pedals getting raves, I really think if I pull the trigger it will be for them.

I'm back! My trip was great but now I need to kick into into gear to get ready for my event in May. What was I thinking?! nevermind, I'm totally blaming it on Jackie for suggesting it!

Quick trip summary: Went to Italy, took a cruise from Rome to Venice. I loved Sicily. Taormina was beautiful. We had a chance to go to Mt. Etna and we did but as it turns out, I could have been just as happy to get as close to Etna as we did to Vesuvius (yup, there it is, mountain with snow, where's the pizza) and I'd have actually loved to spend more time in Taormina. In Crotone/Calabria,w e went on a private wine tour of Ceraudo with a lunch at their Datillo restaurant (Michlin starred). Then we went to Bari where I was able to run on the promenade after seeing their old town, including Basilica di San Nicola (they stole his bones from Turkey and now claim to have 80% of his "relics"). Then it was Croatia where we docked in Sibneck and visited Split (Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Diocletian's Palace), and then several days in Venice. Very beautiful. Very crowded. I loved Murano and Burano. St. Mark's (more stolen relics in St Mark's Basilica) was super crowded and difficult to see properly.

Anyway, quick catch up:

Melanie, I don't foam roll my calves, I use a softball or lacrosse ball. Be sure to take your shoes off or this (well, I take one shoe off and roll that leg and then swap). Alternatively, I use The Stick. I have a travel size.

TJ - ULTRA!!!!

Karen - What did Yanti do to get all of Indonesia banned from BT?!

Karen - Ironman Malaysia! Way to DOOO EEETT!!!! You'll do great!

Powermeter Talk - I think that there are a handful of good choices at more consumer-friendly prices. The Favero Assioma and new Garmin Vectors are getting great reviews and I know a few folks with Power2Max ones and they like them as well. I like my PowerTap pedals as well. (And by consumer-friendly, I mean price in the same range as the darn watches and leg massage thingies)

welcome back, glad you and Kevin had such a great time! Now get to work!

I am in my hometown for the day and today I got to run with my sister E along the foreshore, which I love doing because its great for so many reasons:
- its great to run where it is flat;
- its great to run by the ocean;
- its great to run with E
- its great to run hard (which is always the case when I run with her cause she is soooo much faster than me)

A part of me wishes that I got to do it every day but another part is thankful that I don't (that's the chicken shyte scared of pain part).

Dunno, maybe the "Faschmie, it's Whopper Time" thing?????

Ironman Malaysia would be imminently sensible if I was still living in Vietnam next fall. To my knowledge, I'm not, but in Idaho. That elevates it to the level of insanity, even more so than the normal level of IM insanity. And choosing a race based on scenery, not being cold, and the availability of coconuts is, I know, utterly ridiculous.

Lovely, serene picture and excellent reasons to be happy running in your hometown.    Enjoy!

Before you select edit, below the distance, time etc stats, there is a "With someone who didn't record?" "Add friend" button

He’s not, he’s in western North Carolina- Bryson City area. I’m here for a race - sort of, mostly vacation from Florida!

Any brick that isn't awful is a success in my book. My first race of the year is 3 weeks from today and I am so NOT ready for the run. Ugh.

I've NEVER had a brick that didn't start out awful.  Most of them finish that way too!  I'm sure they were named that way cause my legs feel like bricks every time.

I, too, really appreciated the vicarious trip, Janyne, thank you!

Really? My bricks usually feel awful for about the first five minutes (sometimes ten) but then I feel a lot better, and run faster, than if I started running "cold". Maybe because most of my runs are really early in the morning and my bricks, by definition, are later and come after I've had lots of time to "warm up". I'm also one of these people that takes forever to get going--it can take me up to 90 minutes to really "hit my stride" on a bike ride.

April 7-8
Ann-Marie - Valley of Lillies run on Saturday
Dave - Runny Nose -  40km gravel race on Sunday
Jen - Runners Half Marathon of Reston on Sunday

P.S. I will try to do better this week, Markus!

Thanks! I had a good race. I planned on running the HM, but since I’ve been dealing with patella tendinitis for 3 ish weeks I dropped down to the 5k. The good news is I had no issue with my knee - even during all the hiking and hilly running we did pre and post race. The bad news is, I definitely lost some run fitness in 3 weeks. The other good news is I won my age group. Small races are great!

Hope Dave and Jen had fun races too!
