That sounds like a tough bike workout. I find it difficult mentally, well physically too, after about 3 minutes at or above 110%. That seems to be my tipping point. 5MP for me is around 120% so I would struggle with that workout. |

If you go read the notes I put on the bike workout you will see that I also find the 3 min mark the tipping point. I'm right at 120% for 5MP too and I have a really hard time with it. At the end of the 3rd one I pretty much collapsed on my aerobars and just laid my head there. My wife and the dogs were looking at me somewhat worried. I just finished up the T-pace run, it was surprisingly not bad. |

Day-um, 4 miles @ 6:22? The best mile from my T-pace run was 6:53! Nice work! Eh, it's relative, right? (the girls I was running with were doing a little race pace tune-up for their 20 miler this weekend, just chattin' away. Heh) 15' is an interesting T workout. Was that the full workout or was there something else involved? A big goal our coach had for this M build was improving my Aerobic Threshold and I think it's working! Sally, for me pace was always an issue. If I didn't hit the fast pace I hit last week, I was getting worse, or not as strong, or slower. I can't say it made a lot of sense. But also as a new runner I have no internal pace clock. I know some people can say they are currently running X:XX Per mile during a run. I have no clue. That was Rusty I thiink that mentioned the run PM Yup - that was me. I am slammed with (good and fun) work stuff at the moment but will try to say more about that tomorrow when I get a chance if you are interested? Sounds like lots of good running going on today - I also had a good one: 4x800s @ 6:00 steady pace, then 4x400 descending 3 seconds per interval starting at 5:50. I went 1:25, 1:22, 1:19, and then 1:15 (oops!). The good thing is that this was not an all-out effort, and even though I am aware from experience that the next 3 seconds is a BIG jump, I felt like I easily had a sustainable <1:12 in me, and sub 1:10 400s are still in there somewhere. It took all the restraint I had to stick with the plan and not just absolutely hammer the last interval. As it was I ran it a little too quickly, but it is really hard when you make the turn for the post on that final 400 of the day! |

We always joke about the desire to haul azz on the last rep. One of my friends decided he would go against the grain and go hard on the second to last, you know, just to change things up I'm interested to know more about what you have to say about the hills. I understand conceptually for sure. Maybe the only place I feel I am naturally talented is my ability to run hills, so I am curious to see how that would come into play. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ---- Permanently OPEN!! Well, I had a potentially interesting development. Had a morning of work in San Luis obispo on the central coast. Was gone sneak a post work run atone of my favorite places to run , Montana de oro. Stopped in Santa Barbara for dinner with my sis, by the time I got to SLO had a little gas pain. Based on the Mexican dinner fare, nit surprising. Problem was the pain got worse and worse and did not subside. Suffered and judged myself until 2 am when I decided to find the nearest ER. waited to 5 to ca the wife back home with the diagnosis of partial obstruction of small intestine. So I've spent the past 24 hours with an "NG" tube. FML. they did a study to see i the blockage has moved through on its own, if not it's under the knife and I assume no racing in 3 weeks (said only partially sarcastically). Anyway though the med folks could appreciate this. Other bummer is I am in a hospital 4 hours from home.... Stay tuned |

7 Hamilton, Montana | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ---- Permanently OPEN!! Hello Jim, I would like to join if there's still room. NAME: Jerry Miller STORY: I'm 65 and recently retired. I've been running on and off ever since high school. I’ve done one half marathon, one full marathon and a century ride. I just learned to swim in December and have had a few instructions. Never done a triathlon but wanted to do it for a very long time. FAMILY STATUS: Married, children are grown. CURRENT TRAINING: Currently in the final weeks of an olympic distance training planning, but focusing on the swim. Stilling have big problem with swim endurance. Have my first sprint tri next week. THIS YEAR'S RACE PLAN: Daughter is an Ironman. This is certainly well above me, but my daughter talked me into doing IM AZ with her in November. Between now and then, I plan to do an Olympic and Half IM. |

That is quite a plate full for your frist year. Good you have some running experience. Being retired should give you plenty of training time but most importantly time to recover well. To be honest you are going to experience a very tough year. Make a plan as I would focus on the Ironman distance and use the other races as training events. There is a lot of good knowledge here so take advantage of it. Again welcome. |

I just couldn't handle the trainer another morning. 35 degrees and dark for the first 40 minutes. Full winter gear. I can't wait until I can just put on a regular kit and ride. I haven't even been on my TT bike in at least 6 or 7 months at this point. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ---- Permanently OPEN!! No surgery, yay!!! Everything seemed to clear confirmed by a pass thru (?) test and ct. Getting out of the hospital today. Took out the NG tube- google it for the non docs- that was bloody awful. But at least I could eat niow , never thought gello would taste so good. Will have to figure out how to come back from this smartly without too much interruption in race prep. The clear liquids help the race weight issue. |

Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ---- Permanently OPEN!! Thanks James, the really sorry part was it felt warmer than it had been. The first race I did it was about 28 degrees. A bike race in 28 degrees is not cool. I could hardly move. I felt like the kid that cries for ralphie in a Christmas Story because he couldn't get up after he fell because his snow suit was so bulky. Mid 50s I'm cool with. I went to Florida on vacation a couple weeks ago and it just messed up my perception and now I feel like a grumpy old man complaining about the cold! |

Grumpy old man is my job, now get off my lawn!!!!! I have not been logging them, but i have been running, all indoors on dreadmill except for one run earlier this week. As i continue to battle weight and injury running, i have been doing am and pm runs, most are around a mile, just getting some mileage and frequency. it may not seem like much, but it is quick easy and painless. i have been running 5-6 times a week, with doubles every couple days. thoughts on the 2 a days?? I will ride the trainer for an hour in the AM, then get on dreddie and do 10-15 mins, then do 10-12 mins in the evening a couple days a week. I am not a big advocate of bricks, but this is the way i am getting it done. i am slowly ramping volume, but intensity is basically convo pace, for me that is 10m/m treddie and 9m/m outside. Thoughts?? |
