Then again, if you want any cool weather, there might be compelling reasons not to! Saigon isn't bad--I think we're at 12.5 degrees north, and it really doesn't vary that much. Useable light (as in you can run without a headlamp or street lights) right now from about 5:45 AM to 6:20 PM; it will only vary by about 25-30 minutes at either end between winter and summer. It's always light by 6, and never really dark before 5:45. That would give most people working 9-5 jobs a chance to at least get in a morning run, and commute home from work in the daylight every day. See I could do that. I truly don't care about light in the evening but I don't do well getting up in the dark. In the middle of winter here the sun rises at about 7:15 and sets at about 5pm and I don't cope that well with out the light. And, here in the summer even with DST it is light at 5am. I really don't need it to be light at 4am ... what good would that do?? |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Hi Manatees, I hope everyone is well. I've been quiet but there's a lot still going on. I am 34 weeks pregnant this week and i had been doing okay getting steps in. I am still signed up for my tri swim group but that hasn't gone to plan at all. I am not sure if i really will even get there before the baby comes as I now have a sinus infection and am on 10-day antibiotic treatment to shake this thing out. Bleh. I just keep reminding myself that pregnancy is short and if last time was any indicator i'll be back to where i was in no time. Though, time really does fly - working with my boss to get my leave set up and all that. My last day of work is April 14th! Taking some PTO before starting the 'Maternity leave' portion of my time off. Our house reno (re-build, really) is going strong. There was super visible progress until about a week ago. We have a second storey, there's a shingled roof, they've framed out the rooms on the second floor - all super exciting! Now they are excavating our basement to get us two extra feet of head room so it's very exciting too, just not as obvious unless you open up the basement door. Although they have had quite a few dumpsters of dirt being hauled away. |

I was looking at that thread the other day. A similar thread comes up every few months and one of the "solutions" is always to get rid of the mentor groups. They think that will cause people to post more in TT. That wouldn't work with me. I feel "safe" here. I don't post much in TT because I feel like what I would add would be meaningless or, even worse, wrong. I don't know what the answer is for re-stimulating TT, but I don't think closing the mentor groups is it. Maybe it is, but I don't think it's a given that those people will automatically transfer their chatter to TT. Agreed. A lot of the times when I post on TT, I end up feeling attacked. I feel as though I have been involved in some version of that thread/discussion multiple times since I have been a member here. And I have run out of ways to try to explain to people that this website is many things to many people. I don't believe it is my place to shoe horn everyone into thinking that what I think it should be is the "Correct" way to think. I'm also fairly certain that the owners/management are fine (to a degree) as long as it makes money. I look at it the same way I look at peanut butter. I like smooth, my wife likes crunchy. Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Originally posted by rrrunner Originally posted by lisac957 Checking in, friends! After the 55K two weeks ago, I've literally not done anything resembling training or working out. Part of that was much needed recovery (my feet and toes were really chewed up -- the swelling and blisters are down, but toenail beds are still purple), but part of it is that I'm putting a huge effort into getting my house ready to potentially put on the market. Basically 10 years worth of neglected home projects are being squeezed into about a month. I hate getting too far ahead of myself on these things, but there are two job openings at my company's corporate headquarters (Atlanta) that I've applied for and my leadership has put in a heavy recommendation for me. They haven't even started the interview process yet, but they keep saying they want to "move quickly" which is exciting. And terrifying. But mostly exciting. My biggest fear is my house not selling quickly. My best friend/realtor is coming over this week to walk through the house and give me more tips, so I know that will help. But it's still a great unknown and something I've never done before. Good luck to you on the job(s), the home sale... and recovery what she said! |

Member 285 Cypress, Texas | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed So after my last race in October where I had a hard time finding my bike coming out of the water due to my prescription goggles fogging up I promised myself I'd get Lasik, which I finally did in Februrary in the midst of all the other issues. (Gotta have at least something positive going on). So now that my right eye is 20/20 already and left eye is slowly getting there I should be able to navigate around a lot better before races and during the swim to bike transition. Since I've always had to wear prescription goggles I've never paid too much attention to other goggles. Any recommendations for a good pair of goggles? Went inline skating the other day just to try something different than just walking. Other than navigating through wet spots on streets and side walks it went pretty well. I have a bone marrow biopsy coming up tomorrow, that will probably keep me from doing things for a few days. Eventually I'll get back into the full swing of things. One day at a time right now. Thankfully my eyes aren't so bad that I need my prescription when I exercise, but I think that if they were then I would look at going down this path to. Markus I use Zoggs Predator goggles. they are maybe a bit more expensive but I have found that last really well and they fit really well too. They also have this really cool version that is photochromatic that the tinting changes depending on the light conditions (like transition lenses in glasses). I have found these work really well. |

Markus Congratulations! I got Lasik 10 years ago and it was one of the best decisions in my life. I went from 20/200 to 20/13 overnight, it was amazing, even life changing. Going from a kid who had glasses from age 6 I could not believe the difference. You are probably already realizing the little miracles, like being able to see the clock at night and waking up and being able to see. I am very happy for you, welcome to the club! |

Another of the girls at work has started running and she told her elderly mum what she was doing. Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Ha ha I heard that when I was a teenager, only it was if you run during your period, this could happen. Can certify that I have been running regularly for almost 38 years now and my uterus is still in there! I can imagine though that if one attempted a run in late pregnancy, it might FEEL like one's uterus, baby included, was falling out! (Though, never having experienced this, cannot say for sure. But my normally fit, athletic teaching assistant said she felt like that was going to happen just going up and down stairs at 36 weeks.) They also claimed that running too much before puberty would stunt your growth. If that's the case, I am very grateful it did. Really didn't have much interest in being over 5'8"-ish. If that is "stunted", then I will take it. Much easier to find pants that fit. |

Actually, for the last couple of months I've been making my own, it is so easy and has less calories since i don't add any oils -like the controversial palm oil! If you don't want to make your own, most grocery stores these days (at least the ones in Florida) have grinders and either have some straight PB already made up or you can grind your own. |

I'm not even sure that she's figured out (or cares) that there are pills in her peanut butter! |

I was not allowed to compete because I was a girl and I could "damage" something or start my period in front of boys and that would scare them. That wasy last time doing anything athletic until I was 48. Pre title IX. The best peanut butter is the one in front of you. Mmmmmm, CREAMY peanut butter! Kraft from Canada (can't get it in the US unless you have a PB 'mule' like I do) is tops! I read Kathrine Switzer's "Marathon Woman" and it gave me a huge appreciation as a female athlete and much insight to how severely women, dainty, fragile women, were kept from exertive athletics and endeavors for their own safety. (major eye roll/sarcasm about the fragile part!) It's truly incredible how far women's running and women runners have come in the last 30-40 short years. Edited by melbo55 2017-03-14 1:26 PM |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed So far I'm surviving Winter Storm Stella (STELLA!!!) The plows have been surprisingly active and my neighborhood isn't shut in for once. The road looks pretty dang good considering we have well over a foot of snow and it's still falling (but less than previously) and it's blowing rather hard. Outlying areas away from town are surely having a lot of drifting issues. *knocks on wood* we still have power mainly because it wasn't quite as wet and heavy as predicted although there are pretty many reports of outages. I've spent the day working from home a little and baking pork and sauerkraut which we'll eat tonight with some mashed potatoes and corn and biscuits, yum! Nice comforting cold weather food. I'm headed down to the trainer after while, too, I think. The dogs weren't happy about being outside earlier but then again it was sleeting and blowing in their faces. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Originally posted by johnthecat So after my last race in October where I had a hard time finding my bike coming out of the water due to my prescription goggles fogging up I promised myself I'd get Lasik, which I finally did in Februrary in the midst of all the other issues. Markus Wow, congrats on the Lasik and I hope all goes well with your marrow biopsy. FWIW I use Tyr goggles and I really like them. I also use BlueSeventy when racing. I think goggles tend to be a bit personal, each face being shaped a bit differently. |

Markus I like the Aquasphere Kaiman. Fingers crossed that the bone marrow biopsy gives you the results that you are hoping for! Those are the googles i use too. And, I agree with the whole fingers crossed for good results thing too!! |
