Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the measuring device is on the inside of the pedal, separate from the actual pedal itself.  I don't remember if it could be bought separately, but, I have never seen a pedal break before.

Not me so I don't know the circumstances behind what happened, but at a race I did earlier this year:

Good luck in your race Neil!

7am, 2 hour easy ride for me today.  I did a 5k set in the pool last night and it was awesome!  I think I'm in the best swim shape I've ever been since I started doing Tris.

Chris, last time I was in Hawaii I did a 2.5 mile swim and found it to be the same type of conditions.  Hard to get in a rhythm and tough to sight well.  So nice to swim in warm clear water though - the ocean here is nothing but green goo with a visibility of the length of your arm.

Good morning. Up early - but later than usual because 'we slept in'.

Thrilled to report that I rode 112 miles yesterday (180k).  Covered it in 7 hours.  Which is exactly where i had hoped to be come race day.  My IT bad got angry with me for the last 30k or so. I need to spend time over the next few weeks addressing that.  but after a quick stretch and a focus on spinning more it subsided a little (but was with me to the end)

Also, very interesting because I didn't have my garmin (not intentionally, i was dumb and forgot to check it when we left because I was sure it was charged and of course it wasn't).  I rode by RPE and trying to keep a feel for good cadence. It seemed to work.  I resisted asking too often how far we were or how long we'd been.

What about food, then? Did they bring you anything to eat? Were you so hungry you could eat a whole elephant?

Hi Jen! Good execution of the iron-length ride on RPE. Come to think ... what DID you eat, when?

Okay, I'll add my race report once I spend the time to write it.  Swim was wetuit legal - yay for me.

11th on the swim, 5th on the bike, 1st on the run = first podium ever with a 3rd in 40-44AG (46 in AG), and 16th overall (346 total).

Now my sappy post.  The race venue was my first ever Try a Tri and I was pretty close to DFL (3rd last in my AG).  It's taken 5 years, and whoooole lot of time and effort to finally get on the podium, so I'm kind of relishing it at the moment.  It was extra special that I could do it where it all started and I had my family and whole group of inlaws out cheering me on.

Congrats on the podium. Great run !!!

For those racing IMMT, I can almost guarantee wetsuit swim. The nights are getting chilly. This morning there was steam over the water. 13degC air temperature. 24deg water temperature. But dropping.

That deserves a straight-up {MELON PRESS}. Congratulations, Neil ... most of all on all the hard work that went into the journey.

Fan-freakin'-tastic, Neil - way to kill it! Having a benchmark race like that is awesome. Sounds loke you executed and paced perfectly. Please take your time on the race report though - I haven't even begun to write mine for lake placid - don't make me look lazy...

last day of vacation for me today - way too many cocktails, and too much skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. It will take me longer to recover from the vacation than it does from Ironman...

A hike in the morning, then an afternoon of travel. The tree is supposed to be cleared off the front of our house, but I still have that car to deal with. I didn't get a chance to look at it too closely before I left, but I had a friend check it out a few days ago and he said it is most likely totaled. Ah, well.

Congratulations Neil!  Good to know that lots of training is worthwhile.

I did a 5 mile zone 2 run followed by 1.5 miles in the ocean.  Water is warming up finally, 59 F.  Don't laugh!!!

Don't know if anyone is interested, but Dave VM, one of the the guys I swim with, is attempting a Catalina crossing next Sunday.  He swam across Lake Tahoe last summer, and has a couple Santa Barbara channel crossings to his credit. I think he's up for the challenge.  He is an awesome guy that racks up crazy mileage, 1.2 million meters last year! If you want to follow his progress, he has a blog set up:  www.dvmswimfromcatalina.wordpress.com

Awesome, I've been going on the assumption that it will be a wetsuit swim all along.

Hopefully the 13 degrees stays the same too.  Wouldn't want to be much colder than that out on the bike.

Had an okay race today.  Did the 40k (40ish...actually 24.3 miles instead of 24.85) bike portion of a relay tri.  Our swimmer put us in about 5th out of the 30 or so teams.  I got out on my bike and just hammered.  Went out a little hard...and quickly passed all the other relay bikers in front of me within 5 miles.  Paced myself back down to reality, but since it was raining and windy, I knew I wasn't going to be challenging the 1 hour mark on this course.  So that kind of took some sail out of my wind and I just rode hard (not all out till you puke hard) to the finish @ 1:02ish.  Good enough for a 2 minute lead as another strong biker I passed early must have gained some ground on me...because I was expecting a 5 minute lead.

Luckily our runner held it together, and we won the relay overall (and mixed as our swimmer was female) by about 2 minutes.

Held 251 watts...2 watts lower than my 40k TT 6 weeks ago.  This course was much more technical though and you had to back off on a few turns to avoid wiping out on the wet painted lines.

Drill this weekend - rocked my PT test! 6:59 mile, 36 push-ups in 1:00, and 49 sit-ups in 1:00. I should max out my PT score when I get to Basic in January. 50 push-ups in 2:00, 82 situps in 2:00, and a 15:48 2 mile time.

REALLY looking forward to a normal schedule this week - regular weekend at home, and I've got the place to myself. I will love biking long on a non-work day!

Fred D - 2012-07-29 3:30 PM Ok tomorrow is the day I learn if my tri bike frame actually comes in. Was supposed to arrive on friday, but didn't. Really hoping I get to ride it a few times before IMMT.

What are your thoughts on the looks of the new Slice RS?
