It's been a rough year for a lot of reasons. I hope I was able to get enough hay into the barn to make it through the dark winter ahead. Thanks for the encouragement. It is appreciated by us all! |

Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official ThreadHow is everyone, and how did their day go?? Congratulations!! Mine was pretty good -- 13:38, first IM so a PR, whee!!! I had a great swim (didn't enjoy it but swam a good time), a decent bike (nice and steady), and a challenging run. Had major tummy issues and tossed my cookies at mile 4 and then walked until it settled down, then I was able to run like I had planned to run all along. Will do full RR later. Looking forward to hearing about other's days!! Can't sleep (obviously) -- been up since 4:30am, starving, and restless. |

My day wasn't so good, but considering I never thought I'd make it through the second lap of the swim, I stuck it out and got it done. Spent the whole day recovering from the swim. Mentally, a very tough race. Congrats on your first IM. |

The Original 7834![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official ThreadWow- that was a BRUTAL swim! I am pretty comfortable in the water but I did have a freak out moment because people were everywhere and pulling me down and such. I was so happy to get out of that water and was still pretty flustered the first few miles of the bike. My first lap of the bike was good and then the 2nd was slower. I ran out of gears and had to muscle up the hills on the 2nd loop. A 12/27 wasn't enough for me and I definitely needed a compact to spin more. The wind picked up too on my 2nd lap of the bike which was frustrating because I wanted to make up some time riding back into town- oh well. It was a GORGEOUS bike course. The run went ok for me- I felt off for the first half and needed more shade. The 2nd lap was better and I was able to pick up the pace and skip aid stations on the way back. I was happy to go sub 5 hours for the run and barely made it happen but thankfully I did. I was on a mission. Overall- I LOVED this race. The specatators and volunteers were the best out of all the IM's I've ever done. |

Looking forward to hearing about other's days!! Can't sleep (obviously) -- been up since 4:30am, starving, and restless. My day didn't go quite like I had planned. A slow swim to start the day. I thought a wetsuit was supposed to make you faster. Not for me. Then on the bike I got caught up bombing down the descents and overpowering the hills on the first lap and paid for it on the second lap and the run. I knew I wasn't going to run the whole marathon, but I didn't think I'd end up walking all of it except for about 10k. I ended up having a pretty good time on both laps of the run when I met up with a guy named Jerry. Managed to run down Sherman and ended my day with a smile at 15:41. |

you were right behind me. I finished 15:19. Congrats! kinda neat how you meet a bunch of cool people walking and talking on the second loop.
and as a sidenote : in my delirious state, I kept seeing the signs that read "last chance trash" and it made me think of a dive bar on the edge of Vegas at 4:30 in the morning... :-) Edited by condorman 2010-06-28 11:17 AM |

Extreme Veteran 483![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official ThreadCongrats to all of the finishers!!! I had an ok swim and bike and then suffered on the "run". The first few miles were ok, but things quickly unraveled and I ended up walking most of the second loop, finishing in 11:30-something. The course was beautiful and the swim was as expected - pretty brutal. I didn't help myself out any by starting right next to the stage, a few rows back. Now I fully understand the "washing machine" analogy - getting around the two turn buoys was pretty exciting! The finishing chute was amazing and I rode the wave of cheering fans to the finish. The volunteers were great, too! I'll work on filling out my RR here shortly. |

Master 2808![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() , Minnesota | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread13:43:06 for me. Swim was great, bike was good and the run was tough. I fell off my nutrition schedule on the bike and paid for it on the run. Even though I walked good portion of the run, I must say I enjoyed all 13+ hours of the event. I loved the course and the people of CdA were great as were all the fellow IM competitors. |

Regular 105![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official ThreadWow... I can't believe it's over. Congrats to everyone! Hope everyone had a great day out there. Will probably start writing my RR on the trip home tomorrow, but certainly one highlight will be that swim from hell. If you heard a guy screaming in pain at a dead stop in the middle of the stampeed, that was me. Both calves locked up about 45 mins in. Eventually made it to a kayak and hung on for what seemed like forever, trying to regroup. Finally got? through it and finished. Ironvirgin no more. ![]() |

Member 291![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hugo, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official ThreadGreat race, incredible scenery. Finished in 13:10:51. Learned a valuable lesson about practicing in your race gear. Had a great swim (although mass starts are insane and lead to me thinking about the mess it would make if people behaved the same way on the bike course as they do in the swim - i.e. let me stick a spoke in your wheel while I'm going by...) I finished the swim time right where I wanted to about 1:20. Was shooting for a ~6hr bike and had a 6:18, so that's good. Get out on the run and...my suit shrunk a bit over the day. It compressed my chest so hard (I have the bruising and broken vessels to show for it) that I couldn't take anything more than a shallow breath, and since the rules don't allow me to be shirtless I was a bit stuck. So kids, remember "Simulate race conditions whenever possible!" Oh well, jog some then walk. Around 3:30 my knee gave (something I was expecting and so I had a brace in my SN bag). Limped home the last 9 miles. It was a great gut check for me. The finishing chute = AMAZING. Thanks CDA, your town is beautiful and your people are supportive and uber friendly. What a gorgeous setting for a leisurely day. ![]() |

In the midst of signing up for kona it hit me that that meant I would be training for another ironman and having to do it all over again in 3 months. It's a bit overwhelming. |
