Duuuude, Monica! Austin??? Wait, are you moving? Shoot. I am so out of the loop.

If so, we go there every year for SXSW so we can visit! And I have run ALL OVER that city so I can recommend some rad spots.

Hook a girl UP!

Yep, I'll be there early July... either the 7th if the firm wants me to go there first, or the week after if they want me to go to Atlanta first for a week of training.

You'd BETTA come visit, and maybe we can finally have the poutine mile throw-down...

I'm a paralegal for intellectual property law for both patent prosecution and patent litigation... and will be doing the same thing when I get to Austin in a couple of weeks!!!

It seems we have a number of paralegals in here.  That's basically the work I'm doing until I get back into finance, which is my natural habitat.

I am  a nurse doing utilization review for an insurance company cause 20 years of ICU/ ER left me burned out.....7 years of UR is frying my brains.

And we know how you love your job!

Just swinging by to say hello. So, hello!

I got to go to my first track practice yesterday!!!! I think I was actually more inhibited by a cold than from time off for surgery. Coach just had me do a relatively easy 24 minute tempo @ 7:00 ish then some strides. It was so nice to be back!

Not sure if I will be in shape to make any sort of an attempt to run the 10K at nationals in 3 weeks but we will see.

Hope all is well in Manatee-land!

I'm so glad to hear that your recovery is going well!

10k on the 4th, 10 miler on the 5th!  No rest for the wicked!

I was starting to write my 'job description' earlier and my computer shut itself off.  Weird, no?

I work in the Research Computing department of Penn State College of Medicine, on the same campus as Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, overall employer PSU, but most of my work is funded by grants from national entities like NIDDK, NIH, NHLBI, etc..  I work with a small team to program applications which are used in clinical/research studies across the US to gather data for later analysis which will either support or disprove whatever hypothesis/outcome that was predicted.  I also help program and maintain registries for certain diseases with which we gather and use data in all sorts of ways from improving patient care to tracking provider performance.  Occasionally I also work on websites for different groups within the college/hospital.  I sit a lot.

But perks are flexible hours, decent benefits, and a fair amount of PTO.  Plus it's easy to find out about paid or unpaid research studies that are done on campus like my free bone density scan the other day; it was for researching repeatability of results of DEXA scans.  That study wasn't paid but I know my bones are healthy and it was extremely interesting talking to the researcher, who is also a co-worker and faculty member at the college.  I got to see a whole other side of her and her work.

Wait!  You work in the Research Computing department and...  Something is wrong here!

I'm glad you have these opportunities, very interesting!

Good for you!  Hope you don't melt.  How's the A/C situation coming along?  Out of curiosity, how do you make the shadow and virtual runs different from your daily runs?

The shadow runs are runs that the Official race organizer has said they will send shirts, bibs, medals, etc to the participants. For the past 2 shadow races we have had a group of 30-150 participants.

The vitual race I will be doing it more as a Tempo training run. Do not really have another way to distinguish it.

ETA: A correction, I am going to do the virtual run this Saturday, not that Saturday. lol

Hahaha - I did the exact same thing! I read it as the "Virginia" Human Microbiome Project, but that didn't make a whole lot of sense...

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
