Any racers this weekend?!?!? I know Janyne and TJ are racing. Here is a news clip about the Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon. This year, being the 75th anniversary of the death march during WWII, promises to be very emotional. I anticipate being surrounded by military men and women in uniform and lots and lots of RWB people. It will be hard, but it will be amazing. http://www.kob.com/new-mexico-news/7000-expected-to-participate-in-bataan-march-memorial/4428166/ Surely it will be very moving. I only read the article and didn't watch the clip (becauseimatworkshhh) but how far is the run? It's a full marathon The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging march through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range. The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and, in many cases, their very lives. Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Go Janyne and TJ! A bit of weird pre-race trivia.... At one time I had entered the Shamrock Marathon (as a teenager) and they mentioned me in a pre-race article as a favorite to win, but for some reason I've forgotten (Car trouble? Bad weather? Illness? Or maybe it was the year we got the 2-mile for HS girls in Ohio and I decided I didn't need to run another marathon to make a political point??) I didn't run it. How embarrassing. One of my only DNS! I believe there is a race in the Philippines on the actual (or close to the actual) Bataan Death March route. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed But you are favored to rock it! Have a great race. We used to vacation down there and as I recall it's a beautiful course along the ocean? Still trying to recall why I didn't run--I think something weather/driving-related. Can't visualize why else I wouldn't do a marathon I'd trained for, unless deathly ill, and I was a pretty healthy kid. Edited by Hot Runner 2017-03-17 10:36 PM |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Good Luck TJ and Janyne! Have a great Race. We had a funny conversation this week. Daughter #1 is applying for Law/Grad schools right now. With each potential school she named I would joke and mention a triathlon I could do in the area. ie. UC Hastings is Escape from Alcatraz. That turned into, "If I name a city or school, can you name a triathlon.." It was just a funny moment, it what was a serious discussion. Apparently, I spend a lot of time thinking about where I can race. |

Loved Karen's story and Janyne's reply So big news in my world. I'm being detailed, for six months, to Bakersfield, Ca. Not great timing personally but a great opportunity professionally. I told Coach Scott so he and I will have to figure out what training looks like there. |

I'm sure you can find plenty of training places in Bakersfield, though I bet they look a bit different from NM! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Stacey I'll be living in a hotel and will fly home about once a month. DH will fly to see me as well so we'll see each other about every two weeks. Hands I hope you're right. My main concerns are air quality, places to ride, and losing my altitude training. |

It sounds like you and your husband have a good plan in place, hopefully training locations will, too. Best of luck! |

74 Smithtown, New York | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Ran a solid early season 5K, definitely lacked endurance but for the amount of training I've logged in so far the luck of the Irish was definitely with me! Ran 28:06 with my splits being 9:25, 9:14, 8:44! I still think that 22 minute 5 k is within reach. I really feel that once I can get my endurance up there the speed will just naturally come along for me! Earlier this week I had a solid brick workout cycling 1 hour averaging just about 130 watts and ran a good 1.5 miles in just over 15. I got a 5 mile run coming up in a few days as well. Gradually increasing my endurance, going by what feels good to me and quality strength and conditioning exercises has really been paying off very well. I really feel my goals are within reach, I will break an 18 minute 5K, I will win races and I will qualify and compete in Hawaii! Right now I'm really enjoying my journey towards them! |

Negative split that race, nice! Keep those goals solidly in mind and keep working toward them in the sensible approach you are taking and they'll be no stopping you! |

Should be fun and muddy Which proposed greenway? ;-) Are you coming to Raleigh for the 8k next weekend? It is the Beaucatcher greenway. That is the mountain that overlooks downtown Asheville. The Grove Park Inn is on the side of that mnt. I am probably not coming, but I will wait to see how my Mhos surgery goes on my face. If it makes me look like Frankenstein, then I am going to lay low. |
