Yanti dear, you really do take yourself too seriously. Obviously, Kingsley is similarly inclined.  God help any kids the two of you might have!!

I do believe I am caught up, but I'm sure I missed something. We have returned from a family reunion cruise in the Bahamas. Great fun reconnecting with people we haven't seen in 7 years. We had 27 of us from Texas, Colorado, NY, and Fl. We are truly blessed, and I do believe the cruise ship is glad to see us leave

Matt - You'll adjust to Texas weather, just take it easy, especially in the beginning. Hydrate.

Jonathan - I use a Princeton Tech Byte headlight. I'm not sure how much light you need, this one isn't as bright as some others  However, it was inexpensive and is bright enough for my early morning neighborhood runs. I don't think I'd use it for anything off the road or extremely long, although it is very lightweight.

Monica - Congratulations on going through the wringer to become the winner of the Austin Moving Derby.

Yanti - Big congratulations to you and Kingsley!!! My wish for you is continued smiles and years of joy.

Tom - Get fit before you buy, if possible. If that isn't possible, you might want to try one of the online fit calculators, like the one at Competitive Cyclist. They will get you in a ballpark, but I understand that it is no match for a full on fitting.

In regards to the job question, I am in Information Technology with a Bank Holding Company, specifically System Administration. I run the core processing system, the document retention system, do project management, and have implemented the intranet for all of the different banks. I recently had my responsibilities adjusted so that I no longer oversee the Item Processing Department, so no more management headaches for me.  That was a long winded way to say I sit on my butt and geek out for 8 hours a day.

I apologize for anything I missed, I am in a bit of a fog still.

Jo - Salomon trail series race 1 - 15km Sunday

June 27 is Chris' birthday

Speaking of birthday's if you want to be added to the birthday list, post it!

GO RACING MANATEES (EVEN ME!) !!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!!!

My race goal is to not drown during the swim, not crash during the bike and not puke on the run

WOOT!  Go racers!!  (and x-whatever by now on the birthday wishes Chris)

But what's all this about not puking on the run?  I thought that's how you knew you were running??

Not sure if I posted this here, but we did a family 5k about a month ago (The Better Half PR'd and won her AG, IIRC, and the kids all PR'd, as it was their first 5k!).  I ran with my oldest (a boy), then shot back to meet my youngest (also a boy) and run across with him, then went back and met my daughter (middle) whom Kim had also looped back on.  Then the boys found us about 500 yards from the finish and we all ran together.  Awesome!!!

About 300 yds from the finish, daughter pulls up short, pukes - TWICE - and then sprints across the line all smiles and laughing.

And THAT was even more awesome than the PR's.  I love that she pushed herself that hard and had fun, too!

Great story, Matt!  I love how you and your family all do stuff like this together.  And what a cool memory too.  I'm sure your daughter will be thrilled when you tell the story to her first boyfriend.  You have to.  That's in the job description, right?

That's is great on so many levels! I'm doing this race with 2 of my brothers ( we do most tris and some other races together ). Neither of them have ever looped back for me! Bastards . I do, generally, run to the point I feel like I am about to puke. That's it though. I don't actually want to see it through. I know, I'm a wimp! Your daughter is much tougher!

Jayne I might be spending a few months up in Raleigh with NC State. Apparently y'all have a police executive management program that is three months long I've applied for it but we'll see if I get to go. I'd be staying at the State Police barracks from January-March. I'll keep you informed!

Good luck racing Manatees!!!

Congrats Yanti!!!

Going to try a local fishing peer out haven't been there so no idea if we'll catch anything. Going to be a relaxed weekend with DW can't complain about that.

Good morning Manatees!

Good news / bad news on my leg mess. Good news, James, the LBS owner thinks the IT issue could be my home grown speed-sl setup and adjusted that and my fit. And DS2 has agreed to run for me next Saturday. Bad news, leg still hurts like a sommommabish. I forgot and "ran" a couple steps this morning and holy MOLY that hurt!

Morning, TJ.  Hope the new set-up helps the leg and really glad that DS2 is going to do the race with you.  Kinda takes the sting out of the fact that it sucks so bad, but not really.  Heal up soon!

8 weeks today until my very first tri!!  I rode the bike leg this morning.  OMG, I have some work to do!  Thankfully DH was there to encourage me up the hills and I only had to stop once.  He pointed out that it's better to finish DFL than to DNS and he figures that I won't even be DFL.  I said I'm going to finish if I have to walk my bike up those dang hills and crawl across the finish line.  I have to remember that between June 26, 2012 and January 21, 2014, I had 2 hip surgeries and was only swimming 600 yds 1x/week with a pull buoy (no kicking at all) at most.  When I think about it that way, I've come a looooong way in the last 6 months.  Feeling a little emotional about the whole thing and so grateful for all the help I've gotten along the way, including from you Manatees.

Mary, you have come such a long way that you should feel emotional about the journey!  Your husband is right on about the DFL being waaayyy better than DNS!   You probably won't be DFL, but if you are, who cares?  You will still be way ahead of where you were 6 months ago and all the people who DNS!

In my race yesterday there were plenty of people walking up the causeway crossings rather than running up.  That stuff happens, so if you have to push your bike up, that's ok; the main thing is you and it get up!

59.21 miles done in 4:10:15! I seriously considered giving up at a few points and it rained for the last hour. However, I still managed to get it done!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
