The actual plan starts July 18th maybe? I've gotta pull up my calendar and double check. Going today to join up at the YMCA and see about a trainer. Even once a week will help me get on track but I need to make sure I can have faith in the trainer. I've thought about on line coaching any one used this before? Any pros/cons would be useful. Sorry I've been off the grid, got switched to midnight shift for a week and I don't do well on midnight shift I just survive.

I'm glad to hear that you are joining the Y.  I'm guessing that solves the "where to swim" problem ;-)  I work with someone local and don't have experience with online coaches (although we do almost everything by email anyway).  Sorry!

What did you decide on the wheels?  I have to say that I'm kinda surprised that you wore out the Mavic Ksyeriums.  I had over 20,000 miles on my Ksyeriums when I replaced them after an altercation with a truck. Even then, I think that the wheels may have been alright but insurance/crash replacement...

still looking. I have my set for my Felt still. I bought the bike used from a college student so I have no idea how many mils were on them. I put a good 5k miles on them but yeah was surprised to have cracked the rim as well

Next race will be a 10K trail run on July 12. It is flat as a pancake as it is a converted rail space. Next event will be a century ride in Tuskaloosa in late July. Will go sailing today. Will get in an open water swim too.

Given those conditions, sailing and OWS sound perfect!  Annoying about the bottom bracket.  What's up with that?!

I would like to think I wore it out riding....

(2) get to the finish line (provided goal #1 holds true)

(3) cross the finish line with a smile on my face (also fairly dependent on the previous goals

Jonathan TN, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you said you were doing a RWB virtual run this weekend?  Does that count as a race?

Chris, funny, you are my age but have my father's birthday

Sooooo, i REFUSE to be on the DL. Buuuuuut, I tried to run, superdooper easy, this morning and set myself back to where I was last friday. The leg popped and the running was done.

I asked Coach Andie (the RD) what my options are for next weekend. She said I could switch to the relay and get someone to run or I could transfer my registration to her September race, the Patriot. I'm not a fan of relays but I was really really really looking forward to this race  I guess I'll pitch the relay idea to DH and DS2 and see if they bite.

Of course then Coach Andie said we'd "talk" about why I have an IT band issue

I am starting to look at head lamps and other reflective and lighting objects for running during dim/night time. Does anyone have any gear suggestions that they use or have used? I am looking at gearing up for the 50-miler in December and runs for when I get back stateside.

I don't usually run with headlamps or reflective vests, but had to for a recent relay.  For the headlamp I used the Black Diamond Sprinter.  Here is a review of it http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Headlamp-Reviews/Black-Diamond-Sprinter

I found it was very bright and I forgot I was wearing it.

For the vest, I used a very lightweight vest by Nathan.  Only thing I can say about it is it was lightweight and reflective, so I guess it did its job.

Well, if I don't meet my goal 1, I won't meet your first goal either! Hopefully, fulfilling my 2d and 3d goals will get me to the finish line with a smile on my face, so basically, we have the same goals

Bummer about the IT band issue!  If you can get DS2 to do it with you as a relay, though, it'd be a nice way to get at least one more race in with him before he ships out.

I use this Amphipod vest:

And these reflective elastic bands (velcro closure) from Road ID on my ankles:

The ankle bands have enough sizing range that I can use them on the necks of my (small, 15-20 lb.) dogs when I walk them at night but they also fit snugly on my bony ankles (one of the few thin parts of me, LOL).  I also use a headlamp (to run at night) but am totally drawing a blank on the brand/model.  It's orange and grey; that helps, right?!

They newest version of my vest has LED lights on it.

GOOOOOOO RACING MANATEES!!!!

Solid goals there, Ann-Marie and Monica!  I like them.  Stick to 'em, all right?

TJ, dear twin, get that leg feeling better very soon, m'kay?

Jonathan (TN) please stay cool and safe!

Happy early birthday to Chris, but hopefully I'll remember closer to the day.

Requesting some manatee good vibes for my good buddy LT who is racing Syracuse this weekend.  She's hoping to qualify for World's, or at the very least have a really solid race.  She's had a rough past few tri seasons but has been strong and healthy (please don't let that jinx her!) this year and has been having some very good results/finishes.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
