TT is seriously without a collective sense of humour at the moment. Me posted a thread over there and it ain't sexy enough even to get a single reply all day. Also, seriously embarrassed by what is happening in another thread. Winter is here. yes. 100% agree. That other thread needs to come down. It's ludicrous. |

Some of it was handled well.....others probably heard from moderators. It is an embarrassment to see something turn into an internet brawl. The argumentative person--well there's no saying why he posted like that. It is embarrassing to have a relative newcomer to the site start a thread and have it turn to shyte. |

The argumentative person--well there's no saying why he posted like that. It is embarrassing to have a relative newcomer to the site start a thread and have it turn to shyte. Well, I feel like it would probably be weird for me to not address these comments, as I was one of the main contributors to that thread. Interestingly, the only two people I have heard from about it are LB, and a gay man on BT thanking me for standing up repeatedly for the LGBT community in posts. I am actually a little surprised I didn't hear from mods, but I am going to PM Ron and apologize. My BT has been extremely slow to load for the last two days, and I wrote the last post (which has been deleted) in that thread not having seen Ron's request to make it more civil. Perhaps I should have kept it more civil and focused on Trigirl. That certainly was an approach many others took, and I think, in general, that's a good technique. However, I also believe that the reason that others could take that approach is because a couple of us were directly taking on the problem. POD, I will say this: I am fiercely loyal to my friends and the things that are important to me. I stand up to hateful language like that because it is extremely destructive and hurtful. An excerpt from the PM I received yesterday: ...Sometimes peoples words can be so hurtful. I often wonder how they can say the things that they have said.I have pretty much just within the past few months come to terms with being gay, after knowing for years. It is those peoples words who wouldn't allow me to accept who I was... too many people (including myself!) are not vocal enough. I grew up with an extended family (my immediate family is awesome! Thank GOD they are the black sheep of the family) that is quite homophobic and always makes horrible remarks. They don't know I am gay and have no idea how much those words can hurt someone, especially when I was younger. I'm sorry if you disagree with the way I handled things in that thread. My intent was certainly not to bring down the BT community. Quite the opposite. Peace. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mucho Mental Manatee Mentors--CLOSED (Pop Tarts?) I have noticed that posts sometimes get reacted to, rather then digested and discussed. It is one of the reasons that I am slow to respond in TT and CoJ on posts. I was taken to task (rightly so) for a flippant answer at one point and it gave me pause to think about how I want to be perceived, who I want to be. I try now to answer as positively and upbeat as possible, as that is who I am (or at least who I want my dog to think I am). I took ownership of that faux pas, which I think is important as well. Whether we are on the internet or in person, I try to own my stuff. I have noticed that you are a proponent of that, which is one of the things I appreciate about you. One other thing I learned here early on is that a thick skin and an ability to slough off stuff is very helpful. Just like IRL, not everyone is nice, so I choose to associate with the folks that are (thus the reason I am in this mentor group). And the others I don't waste my time with, I don't think my blood pressure could take it. There are a lot of people wrong on the internet, I can't fight them all , although your desire to stand up for what you believe is admirable. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mucho Mental Manatee Mentors--CLOSED (Pop Tarts?) Originally posted by switch Confession time: Well folks. I just downloaded my Garmin data and have been looking at my swims. It seems what I thought was a 10sec RI was really anywhere from a 9.XX-17.XX. LOL! with the bulk of them falling in the 13-16 range. HAHAHA! Time flies when you're sucking wind So, I'm going to try to redeem myself by repeating this workout and keeping the RI to 10. I think a combination of new goggles and ending my hundres at the end of the pool w/ the pace clock will hopefully make a difference. Also in looking through the last two weeks my fastest 400 was a 6:08 and fastest 200 was a 3:02--done on October 18th (just part of a set, not a CSS), and those were done back-to-back with a 1:10 rest interval and what looks to be ~ 500yd WU (Garmin doesn't record kick sets, so I'm guessing there). Aaaaaaanyway, I have three take away points from this: 1) I'm psyching myself out on the CSS "test" as I've done it faster when not testing--nice. doh! 2)My perception of things in the pool is waaay more off than it should be. I'm going to look at my data after each swim instead of waiting until the end of the week. 3) When I plug the 400/200 from above into the CSS calculator, I get a 1:33/100 CSS. This makes more sense, especially given the splits I was doing during the 30 x 100, granted with a longer RI than I should have had. That's a big difference in the pain the workout will bring, but so be it. Eh, it's still a short break, not like you were taking minutes in between. Question for you with regard to your Garmin use in the pool - do you hit lap or stop at the end of each 100 or do you just let it run? I'm asking because I'm not sure of the best way to do it. 30 x 100 is awesome! |

Thank you all soooo much for all the love, inspires & support - you Manatees faching ROCK!! My day had it's ups & downs from taking in too much salt water on the swim & retching in the water, wondering how the hell NC managed to find a route with ALL 112miles of the bike in a headwind, to having so much energy left at the end to dance down the finisher's chute. What a great day and HUGE congrats to Janyne on a very strong race!! Mucho love - now... GO JONATHAN!!! Super job, Monica!!! YEAH!!!!! You rocked it! |

Smashed my goal and 50 minutes faster than Galveston 6 months ago. Thrilled!! Actual time was 6h 12m. I didn't cross the timing mat so official ironman time is 6h 13m but still awesome I took it very easy on the bike because I wanted to have a strong run for once. So happy with today. 50 minute improvement in 6 months on a much more difficult course. Run had some very tough hills. Shoes held up great!! Happy happy happy!!! BIG congrats, Jonathan!! PR!!! Nicely done! |

Member 2098 Simsbury, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Mucho Mental Manatee Mentors--CLOSED (Pop Tarts?) AWESOME JOB TEAM! Monica, Janyne and Jonathan - congrats to all of you - SO PROUD !!! Yesterday I had my first swim clinic which I was very apprehensive about - turns out, I'm right where I should be - TOP OF THE BOTTOM THIRD lol Seriously there's something to be said for nervous energy! My first time trial for 200 yards was 3:45. Now that's certainly not blazing but when I test my self, I'm at 2:00 for 100 yards. So that kinda doesn't make sense, right? Combine that with the other people in my lane not being able to read the pace clock....there was confusion over times so I had to do it again. 2FER Exact same time. WOO HOO! So needless to say, I'm psyched for next Sunday. Hope the rest of the gang had a good weekend. |

TT is seriously without a collective sense of humour at the moment. Me posted a thread over there and it ain't sexy enough even to get a single reply all day. Also, seriously embarrassed by what is happening in another thread. Winter is here. yes. 100% agree. Well, I missed all the hubbub, thankfully. But I can imagine. What is wrong with people? Just so you all know, I make it a practice to NEVER think about ANY of you having intimate relations with ANYONE. I try not to think of your "bathing suit" parts at all. Just for the record. And I'd appreciate it if you did the same for me. Believe me, you do not want to know what goes on in my bedroom or kitchen or living room . . . . Oh, wait a minute. Never mind. |

But I think once that has been done, just don't engage any further responses/comments by the SD. |
