Came in 3/9 in my AG today.  Swim was ok, Bike was good, but run was sub-par.  I spent too many pennies on the bike and ended up with a 27:00 5k.  At least I didn't walk!  But I'd give up a minute on the bike to get two or three back on the run.  I'm not sure yet, but I think I was 19th overall.

But the whole environment was a good time.  They have the all-female race first, and I like to be there to see the swim start, and to cheer on the participants.

The bike was great.  I leapfrogged with the guy ahead of me several times over the two-lap course.  I would catch him on the flats, and he would get me heading into the wind or on hills.  I told him if he had aerobars, he'd be hard to catch.

I almost wiped out on a tight corner.  As it was, I ended up drifting my bike a little bit.  Don't try that at home, kids.

glad you didn't lose it on the bike, Tom.

Sorry your run didn't go to plan but just so you know some of us would think we were flying if we could manage a 27:00, 5k.

By the way, there were a TON of team RWB people at the race.  I think they had 20 people out total.  Good deal.  I like it when teams show up at races.

Been keeping up with the chatter but currently still on 2nd honeymoon of 3rd wedding (got that?) on a secluded island off Bali with very weak signal. Hope everyone had good races,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUB6

and FWIW I was on the disabled list but feeling much better now and YES LIGHTER after nearly a week of "core" work via food poisoning.

Holy Moly, I just escaped getting hit by lightening!  Pulled into my driveway just as our afternoon/evening storm was really starting to kick up.  Had to sit in the car a while b/c it was raining SO hard and hailing.  After making into the house and waiting til the rain was very light, I went onto my front porch to get the mail.  As I was closing my door - KAPOW!!! Lightening hits right outside.  I actually saw sparks and felt some sensation travel up my legs to knee area!  Needless to say, a couple of circuit breakers were also thrown.  Crazy stuff.  Scary part is the storms move fast here and the sky didn't look too bad, so one wouldn't normally think about lightening.  It is a good reminder that lightening travels far and you can never be too careful.  There's a reason Florida is the lightening strike capital of the world!  Yikes!!  Guess it was a good thing I was wearing rubber soled flip flops

EEK!!! That's too close for comfort!!

ok so while I was in the depths of hell (read: migraine) let's see what I missed:

Chris - happy happy belated birthday - hope you had a great day!

Mary - great job on the 5K!

Jen - my favorite bike shorts are Louis Garneau compression shorts. But if you were going numb I'd start with the saddle Totally sucks - I get it!

Foxy - great job representin the Manatee pod!!

Think that's it for now. I should get some work done today - 3 day work week! HOORAY!!!!

Have a great day! I want RRs to read at lunch, k?

I'm not going numb all the time.  I did when I was wearing less padded shorts and that was after 3 hours.  I ended up ordering a pair of Terry Touring Shorts and Sheebeest Century Elite shorts.  Both are recommended for really long distances.  I'll probably end up keeping both.  All of my bike shorts are really worn out and starting to get see through.

Ann-Marie - Scary lightning incident!  Stay safe!

Jonathan TN - Happy ultra training!

Mary - Congrats on the PR!

Jen - I like the Terry Bella shorts.  The best price that I have seen for them recently is at Nashbar and SwimOutlet.  I also have liked DeSoto 400-mile shorts.  The DeSotos were recently redesigned and I haven't tried the new design yet.  For stricly riding, I generally use the Terry shorts.  Remember that it's the shorts + saddle combo that matters.

Tom - Nice race!  Good job keeping the rubber side down!

Yanti - Sorry to hear that you were under the weather while you were off the grid.  Glad to hear that you are on the mend.

The saddle is the next thing to get changed.  I just don't think I have time to switch up the saddle before my ride on July 19.

On a more serious note, saddles are a funny thing. What works for one person is no good for another. Try as many as you can in order to find the right one, if you have that kind of opportunity.

LOL!  I should have said that if I am on a group ride, I generally prefer that others in the group do not have see through shorts ;-

Never underestimate the cooling effects of lighter clothing! I do have a pair that I'll only wear on solo rides.

Stop tempting meeeee!

I will make sure there is a bottle or 2 of wine at the finish line with your name on it

On the other hand, it's a week after IM Choo....

Or a month... HHH is August 23rd & Choo is September 28th.

Oh jeez.  I even looked it up and everything.  Evidently, I'm chronologically challenged as well as 80's TV trivia-, World Cup score-, and bike rules-challenged.  Honest, I do know something about something!!!

Well you really only missed the spelling of Knightrider as far as the trivia goes. The rest was just wtf towards your sense of similarity in styling.

And because it's been too long without referencing AD somehow, nearly had GOB Bluth as the new voice of KITT, but Will Arnett was voicing for GM commercials. Instead they went with Val Kilmer. No idea if that would have worked, but the thought is hilarious.

Well, an indirect reference, or rather a reference without mentioning it was being referenced, in true AD style = the ostrich pictures...

It would've been impossible to watch the new Knight Rider without laughing.  Heck, I can't even hear 'The Final Countdown' without picturing Gob with doves and fire.

Happy belated birthday, Chris!

Ann-Marie - your experience with lightning sounds a little too close for comfort, glad you are OK!  Boo to no super powers... then again, maybe you weren't put in the correct situation to realize them yet...

Foxy - great race!

Kirsten - signed up for a 4K swim, wow!!  You go, girl!!

Yanti - glad you are recovered from your food poisoning, yucko.

Jonathan (TN) - wow, a 50 miler, exciting!

Mary - new PR, WOOOO!

Surely I missed something or someone, and my apologies if I did, it wasn't intentional.  I was about 5 pages behind on the manatee madness...

The majority of new triathletes see the open water swim as their biggest stumbling block. Here are four steps to help you have a better swim experience in your first (or next) triathlon.
