Originally posted by JBacarella I am back to my new normal this week, we are now the proud parents of 2 octogenarians. My father is settling nicely into his new room. That will only last a week, because construction on his bathroom starts Monday. The transition for my Mom has been bumpy (being kind). She had a 3 day hospital stay that was horrible. Alzheimer's and hospitals are a really bad mix. They are not set up for a person with the disease, between the noise and sterile environment and the staff not being trained for a person with her needs, it took a very confused lady and turned her into very very angry lady. The Exorcist may have been mentioned more than once. Plus, dealing with the requirements for medicare and medicaid added to the stress. I have a lot of experience planning for it, but never had to implement a plan. My wife has a lot of experience admitting a person into a nursing home, but has never had to have one admitted. Siblings and their spouses do not help. My wife may have mentioned throat punch and sister in law (my brother's wife) a couple of times. It is amazing how selfish people can be. The end result is both are settled in and doing well, in their new environment. My Dad said it is like a 100 lb weight has been lifted off of his shoulders and seems relaxed for the first time in a long time. By the way did I mention that I had 3 trials and 2 contested hearings including testimony in the past 2 weeks. No stress here. I have been able to resume normal training this week. I need it. Also, Thank you for your concern and kind words. I have to admit that I really like the inspirations. I never knew about them before joining the group.

That is such good news that your dad is adjusting well and feels relief at the new arrangements.  Sending many, many good thoughts for your mom, hoping things adjust for her soon as well, at least as best they can.  You are a truly loving and compassionate son to be willing to help them both in this way, kudos to you.  Hopefully they and you and your family settle in to a routine soon.  Take care.

Day 4 off the boat and I am still feeling the boat rock. I have no problems on board, but on land afterwards. Sheesh. Last time I had this, it was about a week to get it gone. They say MDDS (official name of the sensation) can take longer to go away as you get older. Great! I was hoping to get to the pool, but driving is out of the question right now. Trainer and Treadmill are the ticket. I am glad I have both to rely on.

I've only done 2 cruises and both times I had that feeling, but only when laying down to sleep.  Can't imagine it all the time!

Wow, Jim, that is quite a bit for anyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the whole family. It is really cool to see how much your dad appreciates it!

I had to laugh a bit with your parents of octogenarians - but i am glad things are starting to settle down and get into a bit of a routine. Alzheimer's is heartbreaking but you're doing all the right things and how wonderful that your dad can relax. I hope things settle down even more soon and you'll be able to carve out some time for yourself.

Wow, thats a lot to tackle all at once. I am sure its good that you carve out that time for yourself for training.

I think that training helps to minimize the throat punches.

I was thinking the same thing! Siblings and siblings-in-law can be a challenge.

Hi everyone! I am feeling so much better and mostly like myself again. I did some moaning about the realities of being married and stuff but I do have a really awesome husband who is open to communication and really does make an effort.

I am getting back into some regular exercise. I have been logging some easy miles on the treadmill - which i am actually so thankful for right now - and doing a whole bunch of yoga. I found a 'Yoga Camp', a 30-day series on youtube where most sessions are around 30 mins and pretty relaxed pace. I am finding it helpful to blend that mindfulness and tuning into my body with the stretching and strengthening. I want to do more strength training but I need to ease into it and not completely demolish my body. It's amazing to find where I hold tension in my body, particularly my face and back.

I am a little nervous. I have swimming tonight which I think is my first swim in 4 weeks - eeek!

This was the week to buy the new bike - I had it picked out and ready to go and was hoping to negotiate a bit of a discount or have some road tires, bottle cages etc thrown in. Then Bam! On Monday on the Ontario MTB facebook group up pops a 2014 version of the bike I am planning on buying. True the used one is only 10 speed 105 vs the 11 speed on the newer one but I will have to console myself with the $800 in savings + it came with all the extra "stuff" I needed to buy anyways. So Happy Day.

Mal de debarquement. Yikes. Not a good feeling. I've never had MDDS, but had similar issues during my Guillain-Barre. Mine turned out to be a shot vestibula-ocular reflex which I was able to fix with exercises. I believe there is mixed opinions if vestibular therapy works or doesn't work for MDDS. I have a pdf with some exercises if you are interested and want to try it.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
