Happy Friday, Pod! I just tried out a new conditioner, and I wanted to give it my seal of approval. Babo Botanicals Swim & Sport Conditioner looks to actually be a baby product, but it is working out great for me! I have a sensitive scalp that tends to crack and bleed (so sexy!) when exposed to certain ingredients, and this has been wonderful. Sulfate free, and also a whole slew of other "free" things: gluten, nut oil, soy, tear, etc.
The scent it light when in the shower, but doesn't linger when my hair is dry. I may just be immune to it now, but I swear my hair doesn't smell like chlorine, and it sure doesn't feel like I swim 3x a week. Silky!

Anybody have any other suggestions for skin/body? I love what training does for my mind, body, and spirit, but I'm really not a fan of how my poor skin is holding up.

Interesting, thanks. I've often thought about getting some "swim" shampoo/soap, but I'm lazy and cheap. So I just keep using whatever they have in the dispensers at the gym.

One skin suggestion, this is the time of year you can get sunburned because you didn't even think about sunscreen. We've had great weather the past week, sunny & 75*. Went on my medium run yesterday and got a mild burn!!

That's a really good point! Has anybody tried the long sleeve UV shirts, like the ones Under Armour has? Just wondering how they breathe.

The best thing I ever discovered was cocoa butter and vitamin E lotion. It is a no name brand at most drug stores. It has.... cocoa butter and vitamin E in it. I have sensitive (not like yours, but still) skin and this makes it happy.

I would LOVE to hear about how the UV shirts work. If they are too hot, etc. I am the poster child for skin cancer and would wear a burka running if I could just to eliminate the sun factor. (Oh, and not being seen would be a nice bonus, too).

Go Racers.
I hope you really enjoy yourselves.

It's good to see only our long term injured on the list today, not good that they are there but good that no-one else is joining them.

Yanti what country you in today? Do you know? Is the crazy Rotto swim on next weekend?

Greetings from what has to be the crappiest hotel in downtown Singapore (aka the hotel I can afford), from the crappiest room. I'm right above an Italian restaurant and apparently near a large water tank. Noise from restaurant until almost midnight and then every time someone flushes a toiler my room shakes and it sounds like a bomb is going off. Going to have to invest in some ear plugs. Will try to change room but this place is always full so probably not much luck. The ONLY advantage is it is cheap, near a nice park for running, and the MRT (public transport). About to head off for a short run and some power shopping.

This has been the week from hell at work between two incidents over Tet that upset many of my kids, and endless logistical preparations for an three-day field trip next week. Feels good to get out for a few days but just more work when I get back!

Don't have any great suggestions for skin but for hair: After swimming I use a clarifying shampoo (Paul Mitchell, I think Shampoo 2 or 3--the bottle's back in Saigon) and then a conditioner, usually Pantene Pro-V. The combo does the trick. If I forget the conditioner, it's a mess. I color treat my hair and swim a lot, but it keeps it soft and manageable (and that's saying a lot for my hair--there isn't much of it but it likes to stick straight up). For getting the chlorine smell off skin, anything botanical seems to work best. Dry skin isn't usually an issue for me in Saigon; I had horrible problems with it when I lived in Beijing and nothing really seemed to help. I even had to use moisturizer on the cat or she'd cover the house in skin flakes and scratch constantly!

I'm back with my weekly post. I agree, I'm glad to see the DL is shrinking.
This week has been pretty hectic so far. On Tuesday, our cat of almost 17 yrs. passed away and my mom and sister were taking it pretty hard.. All week, I've been buried in school work from a geometry presentation to an english essay. To top it all off, I've been getting the worst sleep I've had in awhile. At least it's all over and I have time to rest over the weekend.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty passing.
Sounds like you've had a really full plate, so I hope you can get some rest and recuperate this weekend.

The old Italian remedy that we used on our son when he swam is olive oil. He just complained he smelled like a salad. They could drill oil from from skin, so it has never been an issue for me.

Hey Manatees....just wanted to drop by and say hi. Lot's of familiar faces here and some new ones I haven't met. Hope everyone is doing great! 2015 was a pretty slow racing year for me with lots of business stuff going on however I've got some big goals for 2016. It's nice being back in the Tri training world again.

Off the disabled list myself.  Got a run in yesterday, and my right foot didn't hurt.  Stress fracture healed, now back to running.

That dog looks like I feel! Will try to do a race report later-this is going to be a crazy week as headed for a three-day field trip with the kiddos on Wednesday. Sometime I will get to spend more than a few nights at home.

Not a perfect race and I was pissed that I missed winning my AG by 15 seconds (got blown away by a rival who was very strong on the swim, and couldn't quite make it up on the run) but happy to be 5th overall. Long story, but I asked to be included in the "elite" wave (in Singapore that just means you have a chance to place in the top 10) and was told that I "wasn't the right caliber of athlete". This despite winning the same race four years ago (with a slower time than yesterday) and placing 3rd in their Aquathlon National Championships in the fall. Whatever, peoples. I think it was a polite way of telling me I was TOO OLD to make such a request. My AG rival was told the same. Sweet revenge--we beat not only the winners of the 35-39 and 40-44 AG, but also all but the top 3 women in the whole race. Revenge of the old ladies!

Because I wasn't in the elite (first) wave, and got blown away by two women in my wave on the swim (despite doing my best sprint split), I ended up doing 3/4 of the swim and all but the last few minutes of the run completely solo--no one visible in front to catch until about 400m to go when I caught one of the "elite" guys who started 5 minutes ahead (??maybe cramped??), and the woman who won 40-44 from my wave; no one from my wave or the one after (younger women) caught me. Kind of a lonely race. Just run like h...run like h....run like h.....Where is everybody?!

I'm racing Texas 70.3 in Galveston in April and then I just signed up for Boulder 140.6 in August.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
