Sit. Stay. Read a book to Mak. Watch the Lego Movie. Learn to knit.

Well, she fell asleep on my lap. I had to eat over her head, dangerously left-hand, and found a show called Castle Hunters. How cool to have a "house" with arrow loops and murder holes. Hehe

DH and the boys are in to some show now where an Irish guy is builing old fasioned swords

My son loves the sword show.  He watches the clock each week so he doesn't miss it.

The sword show as in forge, hammer, anvil? Oh what time? What network. I have recently gotten the urge to add a new hobby and its hot, dirty and includes pounding iron into submission. (yeah I am a Viking)

This show maybe? http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/big-giant-swords/

That would be it

That's the one. As for letting the guys watch it..... The language can be a bit foul but the premise is fun and I actually love the guy's sense of humor (must be the Irish in me)

There's something to do with all the shed animal hair lying around!

My dad saves all the dog hair from their dog in hopes of finding somebody to knit something out of it.  He does have a bit of a point.  He found somebody to make some gorgeous art out of feathers he saved from the parrot.  Still, I hate to think of how many bags he has of the stuff.  We just spent an hour and a half getting rid of empty cardboard boxes.  Broken down, they FILLED the back of my SUV.  When he said, "I guess I could almost be called a hoarder," I just bit my tongue.  Really, how many 3-hole punches does one need?!

Thanks Chris.  It took me a week to get that out of my head last time I heard it.  I guess everything is going to be awesome today.

After we saw the movie I kept singing the song and driving my boys nutz. Then a few weeks later we were stuffing food bags at church (FMSC pretty cool setup) and they played it in their soundtrack. We got a pretty good laugh out of that.

Great for a Friday morning...perfect for a 4:55 posting on a Friday afternoon

It gets me all sentimental about hauling kids around IMAZ. "Everything Is Awesome"!

Sorry, I've forgotten your age (you seem so youthful, you see ) ... did your folks grow up in some kind of deprivation? Mine did and Mutti is a serious hoarder (my sister and I call it 'warbaby.') She saves those cardboard centres of toilet paper rolls en masse ... and everything else. She will take the entire stock of free ketchup and sugar packets home from a fast-food joint. She will wipe off plasticware and wax-coated paper plates ... you get the idea.

I'm actually insanely frugal. When we were in Germany at a restaurant, they had those miniature plastic tiny-tubs of single-shot cream for your coffee, and I asked if we had to pay extra for those. Well, I did get the whole restaurant laughing ...

Hey manatees, wow, a lot went on since I last checked in!  I won't even attempt to acknowledge all the news for fear of missing out on someone's comments but know I am celebrating your high points/accomlishments with you and sympathizing with the bad.

The good:  Dad's been doing really good this week.  We hung out a little bit last night and it was so good to see him feeling decent and relatively strong and relatively pain-free.  He made slacker brother come over and pick up the pieces of the solar light that broke.  *snicker* and he (Dad) told me he called him since he (brother) doesn't do much to help out with him.

The less-than-good: got the verdict on my tooth yesterday - it will need to be extracted.  The endodontist slapped another temp filling on it since she had to destroy the excellent one the dentist applied on Wed (I was sad to see it go, it was really nice).  This morning I was having a really good morning and had a really good evening last night only for it to come falling down.  I flossed my teeth this morning and half the new temp filling came out, as did quite a few not-nice words.  I was livid.  The dang thing didn't even last 24 hours.  I'm so glad I (and the insurance co) paid so much money for the specialist yesterday. (sarcasm)  I will call them today and let them know what happened, but I kind of hate to because it will surely mean more missed work and I've already missed about a day total this week with snow and dental visits. (eye roll and sigh)  The saga continues.  Hey, the bright side is it doesn't hurt since the nerve is dead.

If I were you, since it doesn't hurt, I would either leave it be or get the cheapie temp stuff from the grocery store. I hate temps. They never last.

Ah poo.  Did it break break or just pop off?  Sucks either way.  I know that you'll be glad when this incident is behind you.

I know a thing or two about a missing tooth or two ...

It doesn't bother me going around looking like a pirate but I'd actually like to have one wedding and one set of photos with a full set of gleamers. (The real reason, besides cake, presents, and parties, that we keep having weddings )

All the best for the ongoing work.

Ah carp, this is what happens when you don't get a chance to reply to inspires... I can be removed from the DL (was I on there last week?  I didn't notice).  It still feels like someone is flicking a flyswatter at my soft palate when I sneeze, but other than that all better

Happy but super exhausted after a long week in Jakarta. It's always overwhelming here, and among several key factors is that it's when I review/manage/implement Mutti's ongoing health and care. I also just spend a lot of time with her because I get to

There's always a long list of why Jakarta is overwhelming (and predictably with unpredictable additions each time) but mainly because it's a lot of everything big in life plus work packed into a (relatively) short period of time. It also takes at least an hour to get anywhere in the city no matter how close it is. Today I also sat with friends who recently lost loved ones (thank you for all who expressed sympathy in the wake of the Air Asia crash). I wound up getting out of the car and walking the last km or so because I was never going to get there! The car arrived in time for me to leave

The wonderful side of takin' care o' all kinds o' bidness in a dense way ( ) is generally what people see on FB: that I get to have amazing, often paid or partially paid holiday races all over everywhere. It's good, I wouldn't have it any other way

And yes, endurance sports are moving along like a freight train downhill with a few of us in the conductor room going HOOOOOOOOLY SHIZZNIT FACHMIE THESE BE WHOPPER TIMES!

Also, Mutti's general state and her care, finally, are outstanding. It's been a very long road to get to a stable point with stable people here. Of course, since I'm leaving early tomorrow morning (and have a shizton to do before then ... nevermind pack? what's pack?) Murphy reared his head and Mutti is not feeling well and is having diarrhea accidents. With her it can snowball in a hurry, so I'll probably postpone my return.

Sit. Stay. Read a book to Mak. Watch the Lego Movie. Learn to knit.

Yeah, Dad was born in 1935 so the Great Depression as well as WWII certainly affected his early childhood.  He's gotten worse as he gets older.  He also has no self-control when it comes to buying stuff.  Really, who needs 3 clocks that make bird calls on the hour?  They're set 5 min. apart so he gets 3 sets of chimes.  Or 7 whisk brooms?  Or a 60 gal. trash can won in a raffle that just takes up space because it isn't used?  Luckily the house is clean and the living space is kept relatively clutter-free; the whole place is just packed to the gills with stuff.  The estate sale is going to be a big 'un!!  He also has 40 boxes of genealogy stuff that he wants to go to a single person in the family.  I'm trying to encourage him to make arrangements to pass it along before he dies and maybe be willing to part it out.  I mean, it's not like we're the Kennedys or anything.  It makes me so sad to see him put baby pictures of his brother "into the archives" instead of sending it to a niece or his nephew's widow.  Sorry for the venting--the whole thing is just so faching frustrating.

On a positive note, he's very excited about having me help him declutter and even calling me to set up times for me to come over.  For Christmas, I gave him 6 hours of my time (the last thing he needs is more stuff!!!!!) and I think it's a bit of a relief for him to have somebody just come over and briskly get him started.  When he got distracted and started puttering the last time, I just kept working on the boxes and let him keep every single packing peanut.  At least it's a start.  Ah, the joys of aging parents!!

He likes bird songs. One broom in each room. Trophy.

It makes total sense.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
