I'm now waiting for the kids to come back from Trick or Treating before heading off. Bags packed, car packed, full iPod of obscure British podcasts downloaded (to make it feel more like a UK roadtrip) ... and I will soon be off. Safe travels everyone Adrian |

I plan on wearing a tri suit for the bike and run but not sure if I should change into this after the swim. Thoughts? I advise against full wardrobe changes. I have no idea why people think this is a good idea actually. Take a shower and try getting your tri suit on over a wet body (its worse for women because we have to wrangle a sports bra on), but anyway. NOT EASY. Now imagine you are in a crowded room with several hundred of your new best freinds all in IM panic mode. And you will have sand all over you too from getting your wetsuit stripped. I understand people want to be as comfortable as possible on a long day and are trying to minimize pain but personally I think its a waste of time. Wear your tri suit all day. |

Are the strippers in the sand or is it just the sand carried in on everyone's feet?

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Are the strippers in the sand or is it just the sand carried in on everyone's feet? As I recall, the strippers are on the sand just before the showers which have rubber matting - but the sand is carried on everyones feet, it made it all the way to the changing area. Another word of warning - be very careful of your feet in the changing area - people are walking around in cleats - mind your toes. Also, I don't wear socks on bike or run - seriously considering socks for the bike this year - toes didn't defrost until after special needs on the bike last year! |

Drove out past the stagiing area, they have the bike racks setup other then that not much else. The roads are still a mess down there, does not look much different then it did last year. Will get out there Tuesday when the sun is up. |

There are carpets to lay on but they are covered in sand from everyones feet. THere is a fresh water shower you run under into transition but people behind you won't appreciate it if you linger there for very long |

Regular 94 Durham, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm super duper late in joining in on the thread. Though I've gotten some of the feeds from my baddass training buddies jrj0924 and halfpint I'll be flying in wed late afternoon from NC. Been totally pumped the last several days!!!! Just waiting for the days to pass and get my butt down to FL to become an Ironman! First timer here. 90% of packing is done. Couple non racing things to finish tomorrow after work. I'll be at the same condo w/ jrj0924 and halfpint. Seems Jen is leading up the organization of meeting up when we're done there, so i'll likely see all those that will meet. Almost time to tear it up! Bib#798 adiazny (Alan) |

Member 11 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Does it make any sense to skip the strippers and get out of wetsuit yourself in change room? It seems like the act of laying down, getting sandy and having to get back up is worse then taking 10 sec. myself to step on the suit and get it off. ............................................................................................................................................ . Also, do you go in and out of the change rooms from the same door, or do you go in one and out another on the opposite side of the room? I suppose they could change things from last year and that is why they don't have a map of the transition area online................................................................................................................................ . I was so excited last week, but came down with a cold over the weekend(I am so pissed!) So now I am hoping each of these days go by super slow so I feel better come Sat. Hope everyone has safe travels! I'm leaving tomorrow after I drop kids off at school. Around a 9 hour drive for me from Ft. Laud. |

Last year was the first time I got super sandy. Honestly I didn't give it a second thought the rest of the day and it had zero effect on my race. The change rooms are crowded so its dealers choice. Last year we went in and out the same door. You never know if they will change things up. Hope you feel better soon!!!! Edited by Socks 2011-11-01 6:24 AM |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Leaving tonight after work and driving to Gainesville for the night. Will arrive in PCB around 2 pm on Wednesday. I plan on wearing my tri shorts the entire race. I've been using my tri shorts for the last few long rides so I am pretty comfortable in them. Well as comfortable as you can be after 100 miles I did pack running shorts and underwear in T2 just in case. Never know how I'll feel at that point/ Safe travels all Duane |

Member 44 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Working today too, traveling tomorrow - bike will beat me to PC. 40F ride this morning.....not gonna miss the cold weather! Hope all the other folks up here in the north east are doing ok and getting out without too much trouble......just think 70F + weather! Off to see my "inspiration" before leaving - close friend who was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer two years ago (44 yrs old with 3 boys under the age of 7). This guy shows how it's done - since being diagnosed and while permanently on chemo he has: swum Save the Bay (1.7mile), run three 5k races, ridden the Jamestown Classic bike race twice (19mile), completed the Amica sprint tri twice (19.1mile), and to top it ALL, completed the Mooseman Olympic tri this summer!! Cancer has now spread to the brain, but he's running the Newport Bridge run with me the weekend after IMFL! Makes you realize very quickly what's important in life and not to sweat the small stuff. Safe travels all and keep on smiling |

Extreme Veteran 416 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread So this is probably minor but I keep getting hung up on this, how long is the run from T1 to the bikes, I have speedplay cleats and keep thinking about running in those on wet concrete could get tricky. Would it be better to run barefoot and put socks and shoes on by the bike...or is there no room for that? |
