Had the happiest and most amazing day. Got to spend most of it one-on-one just swimming and talking with my distance/ocean swimming coach, Monte, who has held/holds both pool and open water world records. Everything he does is to raise money for charities (usually underprivileged children) and ocean resource awareness.

Oh and CHRIS he played polo for UC (Berkeley), so there you go.

There's a kind of transcendence in watching someone do something very, very well (to watch him swim is poetry in motion) and even more so if you can do it with them ... surrounded by what I call the watery angels of the sea. Best IM training I've ever done, hands down.

Did a Sufferfest video : FightClub

Great session for the tri bike

4 intervals of 4min steady (following the likes of Tony Martin and Spartacus) + 2.5 minute climb with many attacks along the way.

NP for the 1hr ride was 96% of FTP = fried. This includes warm up and cool down

Yanti, you are so fortunate to have such wonderful ocean swimming available to you.  I am truly jealous!

I had a nice 15.7 km point to point run this afternoon in perfect conditions, just a few degrees above zero and almost no wind.

So, I think maybe my IM hiatus might be over for 2013....  watching some friends at IMAZ.   Always thought I'd do another, then sh&& hit the fan and wasn't sure I ever could, then didn't really want to, but now starting to feel the pull again.  Not sure why, but I am listening.

Seriously considering joining in the Monday morning feeding frenzy for IMAZ....  Not necessarily a race I'd put in the top 10, but easy to drive to, can make a long weekend out of it, it's good spectator race, and the loops on the bike/run help my OCD     And I think one loop swims favor me.

But it's likely going to sell out in less than a minute, leaving community fund.  ANd if I am going to do that, more tempted to do Whistler.   Could make that a better vacation with the wife.

Also looks like Galway 70.3 is no longer.  We were going to do that as a vacation as well, so now  can make Whistler that destination race.  But I need to be careful that I am not dictating to my wife where we go every year.  It's important to me that t's a joint thing,   I could do IMAZ solo easily and on my own

Decisions...

And yes, these are WTC races.  There is not really a non WTC race that I'd be interested in that I know of.

Last, my wife asks why I don't do a destination 70.3 instead of 140.6.  I just want to do a full.  I am such a different person - emotionally, mentally, physically -- than I was in 2008.  Think I can do it differently and better.

Michael, just catching up.  All the best with wherever life is taking you at the moment.  As Fred said, you are very much a part of this group - and to Jason's post, very much a part of BT.  Good luck with everything and we'll see you here again.

Just catching up.  Wish you the best of luck Michael.  Hopefully once you get into a rhythm you'll be able to find good balance.  Always appreciated your contributions.  Family is lucky to have you.

Yanti, that looks awesome.  Someday I'll swim.

Chris, you caught the bug again! The only way to cure the sickness is to do it.  There's nothing more you can do

I have always thought I could do this particular IM (close to family, near Thanksgiving to make travel a little more palatable, in the late fall giving me the good weather here to train, etc)...but have never gotten the cojones up to actually sign up. I hope you get in should the stars align for you...

All the best to you Michael!  Really appreciate all your good advice.

I had a really good set of workouts over the weekend.  1:30 on the bike Saturday with an IF=.84 so a bit of threshold and 30' at HIM pace.  The threshold intervals felt a bit easier so may bump up the FTP 5 watts.

Sunday did a 75 minute run with 3 miles at threshold and then added on some time.  The threshold intervals were all 5-6 seconds faster per mile then earlier this week but what made me happy was that my HR and RPE were way lower as well.  Based on those will likey bump up my VDOT from 53 to 54 so happy about that too.

After 4 weeks of recovery after my last race...been on my current program for 3 full weeks and am already at or exceeding my peak fitness training paces on the bike/run from this past year...kind of geeked about that...hopefully it continues.
