Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed GOOD LUCK RACERS!! Quite the list. All this swim talk has me in a mood to post. Got back in the pool for the first time in months last night to test my shoulder (sprained AC joint). A little uncomfortable, but after 500 with the best form I could muster at a slow speed (and 50 of kick - a new record) it seemed OK. Gonna try coming back and do it gradually - not usually my strong suit... We shall see. And Ben, I'm sure you know the saying: "When life gives you red velvet donut holes..." Matt |

Thanks for the best wishes, everyone. I've been doing what I can only call an "aggressive taper" this week, which basically means sleeping instead of training Thanks so much to this group for providing such great support and motivation during training! I really value being a member of this group, even if I mostly lurk rather than post. |

Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Hi Chris! I am waving at you from Nokomis. I ate lunch at Manasota key today (my home place). Tomorrow I hope to get to the beach in Nokomis before the rains hit. Maybe even a run. It was so humid this morning I thought my gill slits opened up! I was not ready for that until July or so. When I return in the fall I hope to be here a week or so and I want you to show me the places to mountain bike. or any biking. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Tough run today. I thought I was over being sick on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday but perhaps not completely. I did the whole distance with mum which was great and if I hadn't been with her I probably would have stopped after the first lap. I had a couple of coughing fits, was amazingly hot the whole way and just felt like I was running through molasses. There was no way I could do another 10k so we headed back to the hotel for a shower and lunch. The run sucked but it was great to do it with my mum. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Running while sick....not recommended. But nice you were able to get it in with Mom. Mine has never shown any interest in running. She's still an avid cyclist, though, who puts in several hours a week....at age 79! Just finished a 14 hour week of training, and next week is our last week of school here. Probably only another teacher will understand what that means....I think between work and training, I have put in close to 100 hours. Arrrgh! Ready for what Adam called, "Aggressive taper." Sleeping sounds really, really good! |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed So after 2 HMs in 2 weeks E has a massive blister on the side of the ball of her foot. What are y'alls recommendations for healing it while still running for the 4 weeks until our marathon? Does she pop and drain it or not? Edited by StaceyK 2017-06-04 8:23 AM |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed If it's massive and keeping her from training or wearing shoes comfortably, then yes, I'd go ahead and pop it. I usually heat up a needle point with a lighter or over a gas burner on the stove, drain the blister, and clean it with anti-bacterial stuff. Let it dry out before wearing socks or shoes. It will be more painful initially if you pop it, but it should heal quickly if kept clean and dry. Possible she might need to take a day off running if it's really sore after popping. |

Sorry you had a tough run, but glad you got to run with your mother! Re the massive blister on K's foot, I agree with Karen. I sometimes get one kind of on the side of my foot near the ball, caused by the bunion I have on that foot, and I pop it when it gets big. I've never had an issue with being able to run afterward, but can't guarantee that for her! I just recently heard of a product called run goo. It's supposed to be the bomb. I bought it, but can't confirm its bombness yet! |
