Very cool!  In a lot of ways, it reminds me of doing a bike fit -- bit I had way fewer than 50 sensors on me!

It was crazy too because I was on this treadmill that had two "lanes" and was supposed to run in the left lane and it felt very narrow so I was just crossing my finger I wasn't going to be the idiot who falls off the treadmill.

Had a great race last night.  From the mass start, my swim put me up in the front pack, and then I spent the bike ride getting passed.  My goal was to do the ride aerobically, and then have a good run.  I averaged 19.5 mph on a 24 mi ride, and then averaged 7:14/mi on the run.  I got faster every mile, and had a good finish that put the last half mile or so in the high 5:xx range (I was trying to chase a guy down, and got within a couple seconds).  Finished 29/118 OA, and 6/14 AG (swim was 17th OA).

Great job, Foxy!!  Speedy Feet indeed!!  What a super season you've got going this year.  Keep up the good work!

Salty, that looks like quite the amazing experience.  Glad you didn't fall off, although it might have made some spectacular data with the sensors flying off in all directions!!

On another note, for all you arachnophobes, don't try this at home:  http://abcnews.go.com/Weird/wireStory/man-kill-spider-caused-house-fire-24580540.  On NPR this morning, they noted that there was no word on the spider's condition after the incident.

Oh and to answer a few of you guy's questions in one place rather than inspire/PM the 8 miles was total. I ran to the facility (maybe 1.5 miles) then when I got there I had to change into their stuff then warm up on the treadmill then I had to test I think 6 pairs of shoes and each shoe needed a chunk of time (5 min?) ran at no less than 8 miles per hour. Then they had me cool down then I ran back to my car after. So that is why so many miles

Thanks for the reminder, Chris.  I won't go nuts - I already am and it has nothing to do with training!!

I do tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to dealing with potential injury/pain.  I might beat myself up for "being lazy" but I won't go out and kill myself just to get in the times/distances.  I have a 45 min. run tomorrow and am going with a friend who's slower than me.  We're going on a flat course instead of the more hilly trail that I had planned (and could usually do), and will probably walk some as well as running.  I'm supposed to ride tonight for 55 min. and I'll probably just spin on the trainer instead of going out on the road.  If either of those feels like too much, I'll definitely stop.  I'm dialing things back and trying to listen to my body instead of the negative self-talk - just one more part of the sport I'm working to learn.

That is very smart of you.  Hope everything heals quickly.

A <3:00 half mile vs a 7:14 pace leads me to believe you could likely push harder from the get go. Of course a negative split is more desirable than the other way around but that's a pretty big discrepancy. Keep up the good work!

That is really cool!! BTW, that is the widest TM i've ever seen!

ETA:  Saw the post explaining it is a 2 lane TM.  That's cool too!

Where they new model shoes or existing models? And I'm with Erin now on what kind of data they wanted to collect, and how they use it to improve their designs. I just find it all very interesting.

Oh and was J secret squirrelling photos inside their test lab?

I think you're right.  It takes me the first mile to shake off the bike legs, and then I feel I get much faster.  I was concentrating on keeping up the turnover, as well as keeping the forward lean going.  That, and having someone to chase, always helps create speed.

I think I have a bit more I can push into the uncomfortable zone.  I didn't go too deep; I can go further.

Good to see I'm not the only one thinking "slacker"!  Though I've actually descended quite a bit a number of times by letting my legs come around instead of forcing it, going from 6:45 opening to near 6 closing. Something to work on. Nice going Tom!

Tom, one of the things that hit me was the reality of "Ride for show, run for dough". My tendency is to push the bike too much and pay on the run, where as you had something left after the ride and put quite a bit of speed into the run. Great job!

Cray-cray in the Yanti multiverse too (hi, McManatee!) ... even more so than usual.

Remember the Canadian beer fridge Molson's ads? The highlight long one in Indonesia?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1iXYTwuuLxs

I met Morgan because he was sitting next to us in a cafe in my dinky little neighborhood in Bali. So Kingsley and I decided to take a 3rd honeymoon (of 3rd wedding) in the remote island of Gili Air. Once here, K and I thought about swimming to Lombok (nearby but dangerous currents/eddies/conditions), especially as part of recon for our forthcoming Lombok to Bali Strait swim.

No one's ever swum from Gili Air to Lombok before. However, Morgan recommended us the best boat captain on Gili (who also happens to work for him), who will be our witness/guide/spotter/support boat on an attempted double crossing tomorrow! It's only 1.5km there and same back, but you can't swim in a straight line. Anyway, we paddled it today--Kingsley went all the way over (I went 3/4), landed, and came back! and it's looking pretty good. If we make it, we'll be looking to make this a yearly proper race.

A lot of other stuff has gone down too--both glorious and horrifying , unfortunately, but for now ... we're gonna try to set us a coupla world records tomorrow.

Hi Yanti <waves>  I'm just visiting you here in Cra-ville, as it seems more your baseline than an exception!  Good luck on the world records (how many times do you get to wish someone that?  Talk about cra-cra).

Tom - great race!  In shorter distances (sprint/Oly), I usually negative split by a little but most of my open PRs are from a very slight positive split (and collapsing at the line).  Same in the couple HIM's I've done (although could just be from lack of conditioning!).  I actually have to watch the first mile off the bike, as I can end up going waaaay too fast - mostly because it feels slower than it is coming off the bike (and so I push harder than I should if I'm not careful).

Salty - cool pics!  Will you get the data?  Also, to the above, do you know why the received wisdom is that a negative split is somehow preferred?  I would think whatever gets you across the line in the shortest time…  Just curious.

Matt

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
