Does it seem like maybe I just need a new pair of the same goggles? Or should I try to find something else that fits my (slightly) more svelte face? If it makes a difference, I'm down about 20 pounds since I first bought the Speedo Vanquishers I've been swimming in since May. They now dig in really hard on the inner corners, and leak on the outside edges.

Grats on the weight loss!  I think you just need to play with the tightness on it some.  I used Speedo Vanquishers exclusively during my entire time of tri training, and they worked fine for me.

Give the tightness a try but it doesn't hurt to try new ones either - you face shape may be changing a bit and impacts the fit. I have a small face and it's a bit of a crap shoot - i just bought some Arena ones at a shop near me and while they sealed to my face in the store it just wouldn't stay sealed when swimming - i guess we all have different eye sockets? I need to order some of my old trusty Aquasphere goggles.

Or it could just be the seal getting old so a new pair of your existing ones might be fine too.

Yep I would try tightening them too. It won't cost you anything and it may well solve your problem.

Now tell me how you oust your 20 pounds because that is something I need to achieve but I'm struggling with motivation it even start.

As for goggles (too lazy to scroll back and see who asked), I swear by the Speedo Futura Biofuse. Have never found other goggles that consistently fit and don't leak too soon. Most of my Futuras have lasted over a year. I've always struggled with goggle fit as I have a smallish head but big eyes--men's goggles often are too big, but with "women's" models, the lenses don't comfortably fit over my eyes. Worst are those triangular shaped OWS goggles that TYR and Blue Seventy make--they just don't match up with my face bones at all. No leaking but super uncomfortable. Plus the eyes always seem to be too far apart on the men's models and too close together on the women's. I have fit issues with pretty much everything tri-related--suits, bikes, goggles--sometimes wonder if I was just made with the wrong pattern, or something!

I've been using the Aqua Sphere Kaiman Lady with good success.  I get maybe six months out of them.  I was starting to feel like the Kaiman's were a problem because everyone seems to carry the Kayenne so this time I am giving the Kayenne a shot -- and not having a lot of success.  The seal OK but the are too close to my eyelashes.  It's odd.  Anyway, I'll be going back to the Kaiman's sooner rather than later.

Originally posted by StaceyK I have had a bad week this week my manatee friends and I was wondering if any of you have any advice. Last week I had a great week of training, got in 6 days plus spent Sunday doing our lawns (which takes 4-5 hours). I was feeling really great, energised and almost peppy. This week I have been fighting exhaustion, I have been dragging myself out of bed at about 7am (which is late for me, I'm normally up at 5:30). I feel like I haven't slept at all even though I haven't been awake during the night and I have had 7.5-8 hours of sleep. Do you think it is possible that this is a mental thing? Work has been flat out crazy mad since around the start of October last year. It is possible that I have been running on adrenaline for all of that time. The last really big jobs that needed to be done before Easter pretty much got crossed off my list last week. I am wondering if my brain has gone right: staffing is done, budgets are done, bus routes are done, school is up and running relatively smoothly, audit is pretty much finished, and there are no puppies coming in April So now you will sleep. Do you think this is possible?

Of course this is possible. It happens all the time - when things finally quiet down people often get sick or just crash. Your body probably needs the rest so it's probably best to just go with it and do what you can. (I wish I could follow my own advice

I love my Zoggs Preditors. I have a couple of pairs, one of which is a really great photo chromatic pair that changes tint strength depending on the amount if light. They are great for racing in especially on partly cloudy days.

I used to use the Lady Vanquishers and liked them well enough, but tried out the Kaiman's and found they were even better for me.  I've had my current pair for about 2 years, but that doesn't count since a lot of that time was out of the pool for shoulder surgery stuff and then laziness

Are the three of us in the wrong places? I liked the Kaiman as well, but places around here tend to be loaded with the Kayenne. I mean half the display case would be full of the variations of just this one. Often had to order the Kaiman. The triangular point kept them from making a good seal for me.

Both of these are open water goggles and tend to sit a little more out and around the socket than so far inside like pool swimming ones do. I didn't care about the appearance difference because it was nice to use something so comfortable as the smaller socket ones tended to hurt after awhile.

Hmmm.  SwimOutlet has some pink ones for $6.  Might be a good way to try them out before investing in them.  The Zoggs are kinda pricey...

Yeah, I have to order the Kaiman.  Inside Out, REI, etc. all carry Kayennes.

Thanks Pod for all the input on goggles. I have a different pair of Vanquishers in my bag, so I wore those at the pool today. They didn't feel as tight, so I didn't have all the awful pain on the inside corners of my eyes...but they leaked more. Hmmm. Maybe I'll grab another pair of cheaper ones just to test out another shape. I wish there were more places that sold goggles in store...buying goggles online is not fun.
Stace - you were asking about how I lost the weight? I'm afraid its a really boring story involving a food scale and meticulous logging on myfitnesspal. CICO isn't fun, requires patience, and is decidedly unsexy when it comes to water cooler conversation, but it works for me!

That's how I lost weight too. I don't think that it's CICO so much as awareness of what I was putting in my mouth.

Also, I made a "what happens on the bike stays on the bike" rule for longer rides when I was in weight loss mode because I didn't want to not eat on the bike (if that makes sense).  I lost about 80 pounds doing that and, knock wood, have kept it off.  (see also, who is that fat lady with my puppy Emma?)

That is great for both of you! Really an awesome accomplishment - Janyne - i had no idea!

I think that's how it is with many things - nothing fancy it's really about boring focus and repetition.

People ask me all the time about how i didn't when i learned to swim as an adult and basically it was deciding to do it and getting in the pool more than once a week ...

GO RACERS!

Hands, you are a busy gal! Have fun

Mary, I wish I could be there with you. Enjoy it!!!!

Connor, have fun! Hopefully you are all healed up.

As you all are aware, my "race" is a supported training run so I plan to start before the race, then restart with the race and hopefully enjoy some of the post race party before finishing my 26 miles.

DL heal up mkay? It's nice to see MaryS on the race list rather than the DL!!!!!

That's so cool that you have people at work you can connect with on another level and train with.

BTW I lovelovelove the citrus green tea latte. Now I actually have to decide what I want when I go to Sbux. Used to be pretty set with flat whit in the morning and chai or peachgreentealemonade in the afternoon.

Ah man, did I ask you if you tried the holiday spice flat white over Christmas?

I haven't tried the citrus green. My daily has been Sumatra or Casi Cielo on the Clover, in fact I am on my way to make one now.

Looks like a lot of fun races, so GOOOOOOO RACERS!
And wow...that DL just keeps on keeping on, doesn't it? So sorry so many people aren't feeling their best. Hugs to everyone as they heal.

As far as goggles go, I try different ones all of the time. The vanquishers generally work pretty well for me, but I have not found the perfect pair yet. I find I generally end up swimming with my right eye shut, because that one fills with water.

Headed to Ft. Myers today, so you can add me to the vacationing manatees. Hopefully I will get some training in, but my activity will mainly be tennis and golf.

Ha! I have been racing a lot this year! But after this one I only have one more on my schedule  until August.  That doesn't seem right, guess I will have to look for more races!

Have fun with your long run/race!

And Mary, I echo TJ, wish I was racing Zion too!

Good luck Connor!

Heal up DLers!!

It seems that this setup is bad for SBUX runs!  Clearly, you must rectify the situation!

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
