Great pics! Yanti. please, please, try not to feel guilty. (I know you will anyway, but...) I have been in that position, even as a young teenager, a couple of times with friends, former students, even a kid I barely knew that I ended up trying to talk out of harming himself and into getting some help---we can do what we can, but ultimately, everyone has to live (or not) with themselves, their demons, their choices, and their lot in life. And usually we are harder on ourselves that anyone else would ever be. You may not have succeeded in adding more years to Oscar's life, but I'm sure he did a lot more with the years he did have, because of your support.

I'll be sending a donation in the next 1-2 weeks as soon as I get my finances in order for next term.

Yanti, I am absolutely heartsick for you.  This loss has to be devastating on so many levels.  Pleas know, none of this is your fault.  There is NOTHING you could have done differently as a friend, mentor, parent figure or coach to recent this.  My prayers are with  you and his poor kids.

Hey all, I just noticed that we will be "Archived" this weekend. So, I figure now is as good a time as any other to push out the Manatee Mayhem for 2017. New groups start in 2017, but if you want to get a jump on things, well you all know the drill.  So feel free to hop in at any time.

Thanks for posting this and getting the new thread started.  I see that many of you have found the new thread! I am looking forward to another year of Manatees! As TJ said so well, "The Manatees are my friends and I don't know what I'd do without them."

Need some memory help!  At some point, a Manatee had a points system to reward themselves for workouts etc.  I believe it was posted on their blog.  I want to try and keep myself accountable for doing PT exercises so was hoping to 'borrow' their system.  Anybody willing to fess up?

Darn, I remember it..and I *think* if one wanted an adventure in digging through my blog it would be there, thing is....I have no idea how far back the digging goes.  It could be like unraveling a thread on a sweater.  (and my blog may not be the most interesting read on the planet, let's just be real)

I thought it might have been you. I will go back a bit in your blog and see what I can find. IIRC, you had points for weather, wind, etc.

Hi Manatees! Happy New Year. Popping to say 'hi'- everything is well at my casa.

My sister gave me an entry to a half marathon in September (to run with her) - which is pretty soon after baby (due at the end of April) but i am pretty sure, barring anything major i'll be able to get through it. So it's nice to have something on the calendar. Even though i have no idea what life will look like.

AND - our reno is officially under way - our little house is gutted and a little addition that we didn't like is torn off. It's very real now But the contractor is optimistic that the job should be done in 7 months so we can have our house in the summer. That will be so great! I am so looking forward to it. I've never lived in a brand new place. It feels very fancy.

Congrats on the reno getting underway!  I know that it's been a process getting things this far.

The HM with your sister should be fun!

I hope that everyone had a pleasant New Year's Eve.  Kevin and I did the usual thing -- stayed home, had a nice dinner, put jammies on and tried to make it to midnight.  :-)

This morning, Zoe went on her first "officlal" run.  We done some running before but she hasn't done a workout with me before.  She did pretty well -- except for squirrel sitings.  Well, she did steal someone's newspaper but I put it back.

Happy New Year! Are we going to reappear in this year's groups??

We cheated by just staying up till 9:00 to watch the ball drop live in New York. Ugly "winter mix" here to bring in the New Year; temps then supposed to drop and we may be back to ice just in time for when I'm supposed to head back to Vietnam. Grrr.... Hope forecast is wrong!

They said something about adding mentor groups a few at a time.  Eventually, we'll be "live."

So I was race director for the first time on Sunday.  I was at a Christian youth conference over the weekend and was in charge of the 5k.  I think we probably had 150 people register, and 130 do the race (at 6:30 am Sunday morning on New Year's Day).  Race went well, and there was a sprint finish in the guy's race.  A friend of mine won the female race fairly convincingly with a high 21.  Was so worried it would come out ok, but it did after a lot of prayer!  I learned a lot, and have a number of things I'll improve if I do something like this again.

I'm Lauren. I have never participated in a triathlon before by my goal is to do so this year. My first step is to do a sprint triathlon. Gotta do this before my 40th birthday at the end of this year! I live in Nashville with my husband. He's a musician. I work in health care. My hobbies include hiking, CrossFit, and biking. I'm on the lookout for a good road bike- I appreciate your recommendations. Swimming for me is not my strength, but I hope to come up with a plan in the next month to swim longer distances- again, I'd love to hear your recommendations. This group seems really supportive and fun. I look forward to talking with all of you!

Coming off of a tibial stress fracture in 2000, stevebradley made his way into triathlon. Now he has over 60 triathlons completed and is one of the most active mentor groups on BT.

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
