It really isn't that bad. The worst thing is the pain from the stomach cramps. As luck would have it I'm at a good friend's house (a most wonderful piglet with a most wonderful villa, really Eden here) and he's taking great care of me.

Okay, it's not that bad compared to, say, typhoid.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Yanti, hope you are better today!

I am SORE today, I crashed pretty hard (twice) on my mtn bike yesterday, the first time I clipped out and my shin got the worst of it, the second time I went down hard on my hip/butt. I have a nice purple knot on my shin today, thought I would have a bruise on my butt but there's no mark, just real painful internally I only went out for an hour ride!

Thanks!

Aw about your owies! Hmmm ... {MELON PRESS}? Feel better? I'm just a general klutz, shins never saw a coffee table they didn't meet ...

That sucks!  I think I would really enjoy MTN biking but the fear of frequent crashes scares me.

Major Props to Newton customer service! A couple weeks ago I posted about my frustration with the LRS that sells Newtons. In short, I purchased a pair of "all terrain/weather" shoes that turned out to be incredibly uncomfortable. I'd worn them, maybe 10 miles, but the store refused to exchange them.  At Rusty's suggestion (thank-you!) I contacted Newton customer service. My new friend Liz has been fantastic. I'm getting a replacement pair (prob a half size larger) - with zero hassle.  If they still don't work, they'll exchange them for a pair of the Distance U's that I love.

Service is a MAJOR driver for my purchasing decisions. Needless to say, I will now be buying my Newts directly on-line.

The water temps over in Busso are in the low 20s (around 70F-ish), very nice but still a bit cool for me so I'll paddle about in the ocean every day before race day.Speaking of evidence, I still firmly believe that three days worth of cooler water acclimation is far superior to zero ... my belief makes it so

The water temp was about the same when I did the race last year.  Even though that might be cool compared to what you're used to, the good thing is that it's still wetsuit legal.  So you should be good to go.

Also remember unlike other IMs, this one starts at 5:45am before the sun is up.  You'll start getting sun on you midway through the swim which feels very nice.

5:45am!  Is the cutoff for the finish at 10:45 instead of midnight as well?

Yeah they do finish earlier also.  Sun up and sundown are earlier there.

Hey Spiglet! No no no ... NO 11-hour trainer ride. 11 hours is the TOTAL cycling I *might* have done this week if a bunch of last-minute crap (figuratively and literally unfortunately now, have a solid case of Bali belly, hope it's just a nasty 24-hour food bug) hadn't come up.

Looks like "official" sunrise is around 5:45ish which means it'll actually get usably light, yes, about halfway through the swim. Official sundown is actually around 7pm right now, which means it'll still be hotter for longer than I anticipated. However, I've been running in the heat of the day HERE so I think I'll be okay.

I didn't really notice a lot of sun until I hit the end of the jetty.  Making the turn around there was very very bright.  Pretty much just kept my eyes shut when I was breathing on that side.

As for the run, it is very dry at IMWA, not humid at all.  Which is nice, but be sure to stay hydrated.  I admit that was probably a tall order for this guy from Seattle.  You'll be fine with the heat I think.

We had a rain shower for about 20 minutes as I was finishing up the bike.  I was annoyed at first but it felt pretty good and there were no major turns or anything dangerous to navigate.

um, yeah, no sickness allowed.  You never really just get a food bug...  So knock that off now.

It's cool. I really think it is just a food bug. Besides, all this extra rest and losing a few pounds can't hurt ... right?

Yanti, don't you have enough material already for the "ER to IM" bestseller??? (You are going to write one aren't you???)  The only chapter you have left to write is the race.  In all seriousness, hope you are feeling better soon. And, you know this but most of that weight you are losing is water weight. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

I tried mtb but gave up when I realized I was carrying my bike up and down hills more than I was actually riding.

Sally, hope it's just a few bruises.

I don't know why, but that was laugh-outloud funny to me! I don't think ER to IM is necessarily just a book - I think it is the next best-selling BT training plan. "Yanti Certified."

Come on, Yanti - STAY WELL!!!!!

And that goes for you too Sally.

I've always said if I will ever seriously hurt myself it will be mountain biking.  And given that my other two activities are rock climbing and mountaineering that's saying something. Hopefully the pain is short lived

Clearly I was NOT paying attention when I was packing up my run stuff this morning.  Temperatures this week have been at or just below freezing so I've still been running in shorts but also wearing a pair of tri shorts underneath.

Anyway, after work today I went to the locker room to get changed and I started pulling stuff out of my bag - I get to the bottom, no tri shorts.  No big deal, it's not too cold out.  Then I notice that my shorts look a little different...  sure enough, I grabbed a pair of my wife's frilly Lululemon shorts.  Good thing it was getting dark by the time I headed out...

Who says I'm giving them back?

We are getting our first taste of winter today.  Temp is -10C and windchill is around -20.  It's going to make for a chilly run at lunch!

Keep the knees warm!

Really chilly bike commute this morning; couldn't find my toe covers and my wool socks were just not quite enough! They were saying -7C with a -17C windchill - besides the toes though, not too bad.

I swear I'm getting wimpier as I age.  Temps that I would not worry about before, I now cringe and hide from.

Then again I don't have a pair of my wife's shorts to run in.  Maybe I'd be a real man if I did...at least in the Maritimes.  Sealed

Besides a few bruises, I am recovered from my mtn bike spill. Hubby and his friend are doing a dawn to dusk mtb relay tomorrow, I was going to take my mtn bike and ride the trails while they are out there but instead I will take my road bike and ride some of the paved hills, as well as be sherpa.

We haven't had any signs of winter here, except some cool early am temps. It's still to be in the high 70's all weekend and I saw 80 on the forecast for one day next week. Stay warm you northerners!

The run wasn't too bad as long as I wasn't going into the wind.  As soon as that happened I had to pull up the neck warmer over my face.  I'll be happy to see the warmer temps return this weekend.  So I can use my new shorts again...

You know, Axenhots ... I think I need a pic of these "new" shorts. With you in them.

:D

In excellent news, I kept down a piece of French toast and three rice crackers tonight (and have been keeping coconut water down consistently).

It all went through me really darn fast, but at least everything is now moving in the (one) correct direction.

Seems like Stage One (single crank arm based PM) is taking pre orders now.  I'm guessing most of us here will not be first adopters, but I can't deny that this would be something I hope to see succeed.

And on a lighter note, we are doing secret santa in the office, and we each had to write down some hints (or you had the option to flat out ask for what you wanted) for whoever picked our name.  I wrote down that I wanted a Park Tool BBT-9 bottom bracket tool.  Wondering if I'm going to get it...or just a gift card to my LBS like I did last year which is perfectly fine.
