Had a good group ride today.  Purposely took it easy on certain points, and went hard at others as I recover from last week and try to find that balance of tapering a little for my first road race of the season Sunday.

Legs are starting to feel really good.  Held 600 watts for nearly a minute on one climb.

Missed quite a bit this evening.  I'll catch up tomorrow morning.  But welcome Mark!

I rode 48 ish miles this evening with 1750 in elevation gain according to my 310.  My legs tell me it was more like 17,500.  Holy cow, I've never ridden that many hills before.  Just to put it in perspective, in June I had a 64 miler on my normal long route with 810 ft of elevation gain.  I'm such a flat lander...

Off to bed.

Yeah it's all relative.

Tasr and I did a ride a few weeks ago that was 70 miles and 7,000' elevation gain.

I did a 75 miler that was 4,000' yesterday which seemed much easier, but its all relative isn't it?

That was a fun ride!

On Fred's topic of a CF triathlon, this could provide some entertainment, although it's off to a slow and relatively serious start:

Good morning everyone!

I had a few lazy days which I will just call recovery.  Good intentions last night just went down the toilet so back at it today. Morning swim - it does feel good to get in the water in the morning.  Have to decide to run or ride later today.

I have to look at how to fit everything in (including work) over the next bit.  I will be heading out of town on sunday to go to my mom's second last chemo treatment with her on Monday - I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.  Both with her treatments and my training!

I am getting into those last few weeks and I just need to keep going. I am tired.  So tired.  I just want to sit down, zone out to the tv and eat all the junk food in the world ... but I won't.

Morning/afternoon. I got my ride and short run done in the heat yesterday. Blasted the AC in the car and took a cold shower when I got home to cool off. My dad didn't fair that well with the heat yesterday and ended up with heat exhaustion. We almost took him into the ER because he was dizzy and started getting agitated/confused. We ended up taking him outside onto the the deck too cool off outside and he started doing better. We made him drink some electrolyte drink...he said it tastes gross! Haha. Take care of yourselves out there in the heat!

You guys keep this thread moving so fast it's tough to keep up - especially after a day away from the web.

Went back for more punishment doing hill repeats with the running group last night.  Felt some tightness on the very first interval, but it loosened up after a few more.  I think I paced myself better than most of the others actually, for the first repeat I was in about the middle of the pack 3/4 of the way up the hill, and by the last interval I was second in the group and at my furthest point up the hill.  Or maybe I was just sandbagging it a bit...

Either way I'm hoping these Wed. night runs are going to help develop some strength through a combination of the tempos some weeks and hills the other weeks.

This thread can be like a different format of try talk IME where we debate stuff more civilly.

I am considering asking Kaiser Souze (Gatordeb) to join as well.

I just noticed she is now on ST.

I didn't know she had done marathons

Neil, what kind of hill you using?  I have a hill near here that seems perfect for repeats but I am wondering if it might be too steep.  It is a mile away from the house so perfect warmup and cool down location away

Hey gang.  Trying to learn my lesson, that if I don't get my lazy a$$ out of bed in the morning, I'm stuck with either skipping the Tues-Thurs run, missing swim to run in the evening, or running before or after swim.  A swim/run brick is a good workout, but I've found that it makes for a late night that affects me in to the next day

Small victories, got up and ran this morning.  Short and fairly slow, but it was a bit hilly, and I did 2 x 20 on the CT last night after work which I haven't done for a while.  Legs felt heavy

Rest of the week, Swim tonight, CT tomorrow and maybe a short run, then a 70 miler with two 9 mile climbs at ave 5-6% grade on Sat.  Then 4 mile OWS Sunday, followed by 10K run that afternoon.  Tired already......

Almost rode to work today but I'm still really fatigued.  I'll hop on the trainer tonight, maybe get back to the bike commute next week.

Edit: AND fix some software for Neil

Not that you need my medical advice    But make sure to take it easy and don't try to get back to where you were too quickly.  PEs are a major assault to the lungs, even if there is no infarction (which I had).  The clots are still there and will be there for a while, so you should expect performance to suffer.

Sorry.  Off my soapbox now

Took a rest day yesterday and legs are feeling really good today.  Will do my last hard workout before racing Sunday...probably about 4k of climbing today.

Computrainer this morning.  Finally edging up to and holding 255W for the workout, with a bump up for the last few intervals (yeah, I know, but I started at 190 in January).  25 miles pretty easy tonight with the group, including 2 laps on a three mile loop at hold on pace.  Come on out Tom - 6:30p at the church at Yadkin/36th in NoDa.

I've been keeping myself pretty strictly to Z2 efforts.  I do want to keep the legs moving though.  And there are other ways I can improve without going hard.  I have some time set aside for pool video analysis with a friend of mine who coaches.

This one is pretty steep - just an estimate, but I'll gues that it's about a 10% grade, but could be a touch more.  The repeats have us go hard for 30sec, recover for 3min, do it 8-9 times.  HR for me got into the 170's (Z4/5), but last week hit 179 on almost all of them.  The idea is to be bent over gasping for breath at the end - so I'm told.  I definitely took it a little easier this week, and was jogging back down the hill straight away while everyone else was catching their breath.  In other words, I'm not killing myself for KOM points on these...but still putting in a solid effort.

I remember her posting about marathons, it was one of her first and I replied.  I told her she had no business doing a marathon that took 9 hours and should start of with more reasonable ambitions, and shorter goal distances.

I think that was the last one of her threads I posted in.

AND HURRY UP WITH THAT ALREADY!!!

jk - I'm in no rush (really), and actually my Garmin has gone a little strange.  My last ride and run, I got no elevation in the download file even though all my splits, etc. were there.  I'm not sure what went wrong.
