So sorry to hear that your father is in the hospital and probably not headed back to his own home. But, I will keep my fingers crossed that the proposed theory regarding his pain is correct and everything gets better soon!

Hang in there Melanie - and healing thoughts to your dad. I'm picturing the treatments going in like fighter jets taking down Godzilla! The fighter jets win but not before Godzilla takes out a few skyscrapers!!

Oh, I should back up. For those of you who didn't know, J and I spent a week on Maui. We rented a VW Westfalia and drove around and camped.

Quite often, work allows us the opportunities to LIVE, unfortunately, the doldrums hit us upon return. Reality sux sometimes, doesn't it .  It sure looks like you lived it up fully on vacay! All of the pics I saw were too cool.

Soooo...I can't be a wander-er in a van as a career?

Baaah. I supposed the planet needs me to keep fighting the fight

Our best career choice is to be who we are. If we are lucky, the rest falls into place after that.

Oh....I should clarify. I mean fighting for the planet. Not so much fighting in a negative sense.

My bike is done being powder-coated!

I've got to go pick her up and then reassemble. In the meantime I was really conflicted about what to do about the front fork and handlebars. The fork was super scratched up and ugly but powder-coating is difficult and really not recommended for a suspension piece. So, I was considering rattle-canning it myself but was thinking the process of sanding and taping and then purchasing the paint PLUS my own spray-painting skills might leave it an ugly pain in the butt.

Randomly on my long run Sunday I happened across a garage sale. Only it wasn't just any ol' garage sale, it was a bike mechanics garage sale! And what did I find? A nice shiny clean fork and brand new handlebars - for cheap!

We just watched a report on doctors injecting modified viruses into tumors to attack the cancer cells. I never knew the tumors swelled up as the fight went on. Makes sense as they are being aggravated, but never knew.

Sending you and your dad calm and healing thoughts. I know a care facility is rarely in "the plan", but sounds like the right option for now.

Should any of you want to take a little trip to Colorado in June, the Kaiser Permanente Bacon Burner 6k race is in Frisco, a beautiful mountain town.  Bacon and Skratch is served at the aid station at mile 1.8.  Seems a bit ironic that Kaiser is the title sponsor, doesn't it?!

Did someone say bacon?!  Heh heh, maybe KP is trying to drum up some participants for clinical research studies...

Edited to add: I just clicked the link: bacon AND beer AND bacon apparel?  Maybe next year when I don't have a 70.3 going on in June!

Wha? Are you insinuating bacon is somehow not healthy?

I'm more of a thick cut pork belly or spam girl myself, but I believe all of those meats (prosciutto too!) to be a staple in my healthy life

I've been watching the Giro and I have to ask, who is your favorite bike racing announcer? Phil Ligget/Paul Sherwen or Carlton Kirby?

I haven't seen the Giro or ToC yet but I like Phil.  He's classy and knows his stuff.

Last year they were bringing in some recently retired cyclists and they were just irritating.

Is there any further PPA info? If our name is on the confirmation list we are good to go, right? I'm approaching my last day to change my ticket or not.

I don't think I know who Carlton Kirby is, but Phil and Paul are a good duo.  They certainly have some funny moments.  Plus when DH and I watch the TdF, the annual tradition is to closely to catch the first time "massive" is said and how often they say that and "dancing on the pedals".  It'll be a sad, sad day when one or the other retires.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
