Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did my first hill repeats today in quite some time......WOW. Did some deep thinking to get my mind off the work at hand...for me that's REAL hard...anyway, posted this in my blog but thought I would post it here since I am the Grand-pa of the group...just some food for thought from the senior set. On a different note...while I was out running I thought about some news I have received in the last 24 hours about 3 people in my High School class that passed away last year. Now granted, that's not a ton of folks but we are in the 56-58 year old range and were only a class of ~350. Anyway...that got me to thinking about how lucky I am to be able to be out there running marathons and doing triathlons at my age. Yes, I know, that part of the reason I can do them is that I AM OUT THERE DOING SOMETHING instead of laying around eating/drinking and talking about all those idiot joggers & bikers that clog up the roads. But it still makes me feel blessed to have the good health and determination to be out on the roads, paths and pools. I am truly amazed when I see some of my classmates on FB and other places to see how they have aged...some for the better but sadly most are worse for the wear. One of my favorite BT'ers has a quote on her blog that helped me get through the run in Augusta..."Some day my body isn't going to let me do these things...TODAY IS NOT THAT DAY." Never take for granted the opportunities we have as athletes, mentors, parents and friends...and remember to smile while you are running/biking down the road.....most every home you pass has a person in it on their a$$ watching T.V. while you are lucky enough to be out doing what you are doing for yourself. |

For now, I am manually logging the workouts. Was your error message 500 or 501? I am using Device Agent V1.0.103, it's not working anymore. Have to export my workout to file then go to TP and upload a workout from file. |

Registration Confirmation for: Dear john, Congratulations! You are now registered for 2010 ESi IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta. Please check the event's official website for updates: http://www.ironmanaugusta.com Wow!! She's a keeper!! OK, and I think you want to go after my half marathon time, is that right? (Not that it's fast, but that it's in your reach?) I hope you crush it. Go go go!!! On the same note, am I a bad wife if I secretly hope my husband does not beat my half mary PR this weekend??! I mean, I want him to do well and all that... but I work my A$$ off for my races. This is his first half mary. He ran a marathon 11 years ago. He just goes out and runs a few times a week, doing a longer run with a friend on the weekends. I know he wants to beat me!! I guess it's OK if he does, cuz that will just fuel my fire, right?! For better or worse I won't be there (Arizona), just waiting at home to hear how it went. Did a 5K TT today and man, is it ever amazing how totally miserable 12.5 laps around the track can be. Well, the first 4 were fine, it was the last 8.5 that were tough. And the last 3.5 were just brutal hang on hang on hang on hang on omygod I cannot breathe hang on hang on hang on. So glad it's done!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone~ I made a huge decision yesterday. As many of you know, when I did my HIM last September, I associated a charity (http://www.thefirsttee.org/Club/Scripts/Home/home.asp) with my race. All of the money I raised went to TFT. I was able to raise around $3000 for this charity, with limited publicity which was fantastic, especially with today's economy. Now, with a bigger race on the horizon, comes a bigger charity. When I compete in IMKY, I will be raising money for The Folds of Honor Foundation (http://www.foldsofhonor.com/mission_our_story.php). On February 22, I will have the honor of meeting Major Dan Rooney, as he is not only a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, but is also, as am I, a PGA Professional. He is our guest of honor for our PGA Annual Meeting. I will get to share my journey with him and thank him for all he and his fellow service men and women have done for our country. http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=5689281 If all goes well, and my legs have recovered, I was also asked to be one of 15 representatives for the PGA of America in the Marine Corps Marathon in October. I think I just received my motivation for the rest of the year. My thanks to you SARGE! |

Honestly, if it's not one thing it's another and I am not computer savvy for all of this stuff! Arrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!! LOL, no. The Device agent for Training Peaks is hosed right now. If you want to upload a workout from PT or garmin. In Garmin Training center right click on the workout you want to export over in the date sorted list on the left. One option will be to Export "whatever date the workout was" It should look something like this as a file name "1_14_2010 6_58_13 PM_history.tcx" In Training peaks go to the spreadsheet view and click on the workout you want to upload the file to. There is a button there that says "Upload New Device File" find your file and click ok, it will upload all the data into your workout just like device agent would. TBH that is always faster for me since Garmin and PT programs download the data when I connect the device anyways. Does that make sense? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have a rather odd question to pose to the group: Last night I got in the pool for the second time since October. (I have been focusing on running this winter.) I did 1500 meters at a steady pace, trying to focus on bilateral breathing and keeping my elbow high. The workout itself felt fine. But when I got out of the pool, I felt nauseous. It was almost like I was seasick or motion sick. I had intended to do a brick ride, but that neuseous feeling prevented me from doing more than about 15 minutes on the bike. And it actually persisted for the next couple hours until I went to bed. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? Any idea on the causes or ways to prevent/mitigate it? Thanks -William |

Thanks -William This is what I believe played a MAJOR part in my demise at Augusta HIM...just read the race report...6 hours of puking and NOT a fun time. After thinking about this for several weeks after, I basically ruled out bad bagel for breakfast, nerves, etc. and I sort of settled on swimming induced vertigo. I felt it a few minutes after exiting the swim and it continued for the next several hours. Since I had no choice but to go on the bike was not a fun ride and the presents of a friend riding with me kept my mind occupied enough to keep going and finish. After doing some research on this about the only thing I found recommended was the use of ear plugs. This seems to work for many people. I have not been in the pool since...and honestly this has never happened in the pool so we will just have to see. Just my .02 and hope it helps. Steve |

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? Any idea on the causes or ways to prevent/mitigate it? Thanks -William I have terrible motion sickness issues and have had it happen in OWS to the point where I had to get out of the water after about 400m and lay on the ground in a ball holding my head b/c it was spinning so much and trying not to puke. It's awful. That said I can get also a little woosie in the pool especially if I do a lot of drills on my side or start looking around too much while swimming. I also cannot swim on my back. That makes me sick! Luckily ear plugs for long distance OWS seems to do the trick for me. I don't think I could ever do an ocean swim b/c the waves would do me in. Even just the natural gentle up and down on the ocean would not be good. You can search on BT and slow twitch - it is a common enough problem where you will get other suggestions. Another idea I saw was eating some ginger at some time before swimming. I can't remember the timing but it will come up in searchs. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() William -- swim-induced vertigo would have been my guess as well. I don't have much experience with that, other than feeling a bit dizzy after OWS training swims in super-cold water, but it has always passed quickly. (Just makes for an interesting wet-suit-removal-dance when I can't really stand up!) Hopefully you can figure that out, cuz that's no fun. Good job on the 1500M, though! John -- you are a funny, funny man. Thanks for a great wake-up chuckle! And Chris -- wow! Congratulations!! You will rock all of that and more, I'm sure. Quite an honor. Well done. Happy Friday to all!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reuben, often times my girls will ride there bikes while I run. That way we all get a meaningful workout together. Keep up the positive influence and have a great time with your kids. Suzy, that was a great visualizing demonstration about the high elbow. I always look so funny practicing my swim stroke at my desk but that one really helped. Thanks. Steve - I hear you about friends getting out of shape. I am only 34 but went back to my highschool town last summer and so many of my friends looked much older than 34! Very sad. Kyla - I too am competative with my husband. When we both started this sport the only thing I had him on was the swimming, now even that is gone. But all joking aside it is great to be able to share this great lifestyle with our spouses. So many members of this group have converted their significant others and co-workers, just by being positve examples. WE ROCK!!! Chris - major cudoos on the charity. William - I second the sea sickness ideas and ear plugs. Just keeping my ears covered with my swim cap works for me, but my hubby needs the ear plugs. Since it has been a while since you swam give it another go, maybe you'll body will adjust. If not, there is always Dramamine. |
