Run
Comments: After about five minutes, I realized my clothing was all wrong for the upcoming 3.8 mile run, so was formulating a plan to fix that. I had on my full bike gloves and a head band, so was pretty warm (not too bad, but I could foresee trouble ahead if I didn't change my top!). For the record, I also had on capri running tights, sport bra, tri top and javelin tri suit! I need all the support I can get for the run, believe me. Glad I had that much helping on top. The run itself was uneventful--I didn't push too hard, trying to save legs for the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: Not sure...weather is so weird here in the spring, I don't think there's any way to be totally sure of what to wear for the event. I saw a little bit of everything. Transition 1
Comments: Fast transition-easy into shoes--had a bit of trouble hooking clasp of helmet but not too bad. Put on sunglasses, too. I had a sweet transition spot due to my super early arrival at the event. What would you do differently?: Practice transitioning with gloves on! Bike
Comments: The last few miles were downhill, and that was a hoot!! I know I was going at least 37 for a while!!! What would you do differently?: More hills! Transition 2
Comments: I decided, while riding, that I would unpin the top pins of my number, then tear off the bottom, grab my race belt, and wear that for the run over just my tri suit. So I did. It slowed me down a little bit but nothing major. I barely recall the transition. What would you do differently?: Race belt for entire race!! Run
Comments: Nice run, just long enough to be challenging for early in the season. What would you do differently?: Always try to empty the tank!!! Post race
Warm down: Stretched out, drank water, put on layers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fatness. :) Inexperience in duathlons. Event comments: Very well organized by BuDu Racing. I didn't see any glaring problems, and anything that seemed to be an issue was resolved immediately. Awards ceremony was immediate, and I got first in the Athena division, which was nice. I am very happy to have race season underway, it's been a long time since my September triathlon!! It is interesting to note that I would have placed second in 30-34 and also in 40-44, but in my own AG, I was last by 5+ minutes. Amazing. Well, next year I will move up in AG....although will be Athena...but it's nice to compare sometimes and see how it shakes out. Last updated: 2008-03-24 12:00 AM

My 2 1/2 year old woke me at 2:30 AM and poked and prodded me for about an hour. Finally had a little bit of restless, nightmare sleep, got up at 445, had grape nuts and coffee, left at 530 for Enumclaw.
David, (briderdt) who gave me the entry to the race, met me there, and we drove the bike course hill after I got my transition area set up. Very steep and long, but I felt better knowing what to expect along the way. Other than that, I just futzed with my clothing, not sure what I should wear...made the mistake of pinning my number to my polar fleece--I will get to that detail shortly.
Stretched a little bit. Figured the first leg would provide sufficient warm up for the rest of the race! Short course participants started 5 minutes after the long course. I took a GU about five min before race start. Of course, it was the GU I meant to take before the bike portion but oh well.
