Total Time = 2h 35m 24s
Overall Rank = 171/400
Age Group = clyde
Age Group Rank = 1/23
Pre-race routine:

Got up stupid early (3AM) and met up with Lisa B and Marvarnette to carpool is Lisa's cool van. Got to the site nice and early, picked up race packet, put on the Ipod and tried to phsyce myself up a little
Event warmup:

Got in the water for about 30 seconds before getting kicked out.
Swim
  • 29m 32s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim started out awesome. I was on a comfortable pace and mechanically good. Then the chip started coming loose, so I had to stop and fix it- no big deal- maybe 30 seconds. Then I got way off course on the way in. I started swimming toward the sprint race yellow bouys. My stomach was getting a nasty feeling about half way threough the swim that never went away the rest of the race. still came out with an OK time despite the navigation issues
What would you do differently?:

More OWS. familiarize myself with the course better. I was absolutely lost for a few moments.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Decent transition- felt I fumbled with the shoes too much, but happy with a sub 1:00
What would you do differently?:

not much, just be more precise.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 29s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. Stomach issues still haunting me. I feel like I was a little short physically, but managed to put up a pretty good bike split despite it. I had a frustrating moment when I got stuck in a little traffic jam, but that was out of my control. come off with a flying dismout-perfect.
What would you do differently?:

I still have to look at my pre race diet. At the 2 races I shot a 5 hour energy beforehand, both times I had stomach issues. GC and Here
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Put on socks here and struggled with them a little, otherwise I should have been sub 1:00 here
What would you do differently?:

Practice with socks- have not been using them for the last 2 sprints
Run
  • 52m 15s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a great run. I started strong and passed lots of people. I thought I could maintain a sub 8 pace, but by the time I hit the turnaround I started fading fast. by mile 5 at the hill the stomach dicomfort turned into a short puking session. had to walk it off for a minute then did my best to hammer out the last mile
What would you do differently?:

more run and interval training in the heat. work on nutrition. I feel that I fell short here and could/should be able to pull a sub 50
Post race
Warm down:

stood under the shower tent- I love those things. Saw Court and Kraig at the finish line. made my way over to the NAMC crew, where Felix had an ice cold beer waiting for me (delicious!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really. I had some stomach issues, but I am not going to make excuses- who ever really has the "perfect" race? I am thrilled that I won Clydesdale and have no complaints

Event comments:

Ga Multisports does a great job. They support our club and we enjoy going out in force to Jim's events. Fun race and a great day!

You ran that run AND had to stop for barfing? That is hard core. That 5 hr energy might not be your friend. Does GU work for you?

I didn't realize you had a little puke session in your run - yikes! Nice race, I tried to keep you in my sights on the bike, but it didn't happen - you are FAST! Nice race, nice hardware - Congrats!

Puking means you are trying hard!

Seriously, sorry that your stomach was haunting you through the race.  Way to "gut it out" (couldn't resist) to a strong finish time.

Fantastic race! You are going to have to build a new wall in your house for all the hardware you and the Mrs are bringing home.

Nice race. Congrats on the hardware. I got a good video of it.. just need to add some creative editing, and I will post it.   If we can take in fluids in a race, we can push them out too.. Nice getting through that.

Nice race!  They should just create a division just for you so that others will at least have an opportunity to take home some hardware too!   Can't believe you stayed tough after the pukey-puke.

YOU     ARE      THE     MAN!

Way to go, animal!  Puke and all and you still snag the primo HW with time to spare - very impressive.  Keep up the great season!

Where else would you find a group of people telling you congrats on your pushing through your puking?!

Great job out there, Greg.  It's been fun to watch you grow as an athlete over the past year.  Yippee for the race and the accompanying hardware!
