A quick look at my age group from this year compared to last year's entrants shows a bunch of new names.  I'm a first timer - any other Tri-virgins choose the Emerald Pointe for your deflowering?  Excitement is certainly building.

I'm on the wait list - hoping to get in for my 2nd tri after doing my first in August.  I will be in 45-49 (this time legitimately since I turn 45 the day before the race).  If I don't make it into the Emerald Point field, I am heading to Douglasville for the "Last Chance".

I popped my cherry with this race last year. GREAT RACE!!! I had just got married, and a week honeymoon in Mexico two weeks before this race, and still was able to post a solid time (well, for my first one). The course is very fast. A few things to note....

1. the run from the swim to transition is rough (up hill in a steep way)
2. the bike course has some rollers on it, with a few decent hills.
3. the run course is flat IMO. A few very gentle rollers, but nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

I couldn't believe how fast this year filled up!  I'm glad I signed up early.  I was working on getting some co-workers to do it with me when I discovered that registration was closed.  It's probably not such a bad thing - my boss's boss's boss would have totally kicked my butt.  He runs 6 minute miles in his 5k.

Coldfire - from your race list, considering you lost your tri-ginity at last year's Emerald Pointe, you've become a full-blown tri-slut.  Good luck on your Half this weekend.  I'm planning on getting up to olympic/international next year, and MAYBE a half the year after.

x2 on all of that..

EP is IMO the best, most competative sprint in the area. Even moreso than TRI-PTC. It's end of the season, when most athletes are peaking, or have the recent work, to just kill this race. Be sure to watch out for Dollar on the bike course. He likes to nap somewhere toward the end of mile 1.

Yep, I took hook, line, and sinker after that first race. Honestly, I wish I could have fit more races in this year, but my schedule did not work out that way.

Thanks for the good luck this weekend, I will need it.

I am pissed that I can not do EP this year. I was planning on making it my final race of the season each year, but my wife's sister is getting married the day before so she vetoed that weekend. No questions asked.

OK, I guess I will know if I made the EP field about 2 weeks or so beforehand, so I will let you know once I know my fate in a few days.

I'll be there too!  I thought I was late signing up back in mid-August and must have barely made it.  I did the My First Tri on pretty much the same course and the swim-bike transition does kinda suck, running uphill, barefoot, on concrete.  I love it though!  Good luck everyone.

Awesome!  I asked my little sister to come down (from CT) and race with me.  She's been doing tris for 6 years.  This is only my first full season.  I'm feeling the pressure to perform and make sure that she has a great time (numerical and enjoyment wise).  I'm delighted to hear this is such a wonderful event.

I'll be there as well.  This is my first season and I completed Callaway Gardens first and then Carrollton.

Do any of your veterans know if Ipods are allowed? I'm not sure how to survive the bike and run without my tunes. I know a lot of people frown upon headphones, especially in road races (I started as a runner), but I get bored without some motivating music. I always listen at a safe volume so I can hear the many, many bikers coming up to pass me in the bike leg.

Looking forward to it.

Noooooooooo way dude!  I didn't think there ever was a Tri that allowed Ipods.  I would be terrified if I was on the bike and came up behind someone listening to one.  I thought USAT banned them from every single race in the country unless someone can correct me on this?  But yeah I would go a bit farther than saying that they are frowned upon.  I would frown upon them in a 5k or something, but in a Tri it would just downright me off!!  But that's just me =)

Actually I take that back, I could really care less if people wear them in a road race.  But no Tri's!!
