Pre-race routine:

5am woke,; starbucks in Boystown, took the L with joe to the start. warmed-up, stretched, cliff bar, 2 tylenol, gel, anti-chafe, wrrapped toes, sunscreen - goofed around with joe among 70,000 people.
Run
  • 5h 15m
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Might have tapered too much due to knee pain. difficult to start out - twinges in the knee around mile 5 - ran through it and was great. The amount of spectators and runners was overwelming. i ran into an annoying spectator at one point. China town...little Mexico....Boys town....amazing - funny, entertaining. Got quite steamy at the end.... joe was hilarious supporter..chased me down to apply sunscreen and got a chocolate shake for me at the finish! very cute..
What would you do differently?:

build a more solid base to prevent knee pain...more stretching....worn something eye-catching so family/friends could spot me. do smaller race...participant wise.
Post race
Warm down:

wobbly legs at the end...walked....iced knee...almost fell asleep on the L.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

People and garbage clogging the water stops...slippery from discarded gels. lack of base...knee pain.

Event comments:

sooooo many people! fun to run in - but not to get around. proud i did the distance...lucky i have supportive kids, husband, family, friends.

holy cow!  i was wondering i would see a rr on this.  You need to change the total time cuz it says 8 hours for some reason.  I am so proud of you and you were a machine out there.  I hope your girls realize what a bad azz momma is running marys in hot weather.  50 state club?   We will get that knee better and also teach full sentence structure for future race reports.  You are awesome (still were awesome before, but like i said, very proud of ya!) oxoxooxox

Less is more??

Awwww, don't be so hard on the Momma, Daddy Donk.   However, I do agree on the total time field.

GREAT JOB, LARA!!

Great job on your first marathon.  Its crazy down there....good to know Joe could find you.  I was going to meet him down there, but couldn't pull it off.

And don't listen to Joe about sentence structure.  The quick concise way is a nice change from his novels

Congratulations on finishing a tough race in good time! I agree with you on the water stations - crazy, slippery and seemed like the whole race was one big gatorade/water station!
