The Red Rock Company

Sunny
Total Time = 2h 36m 56s
Overall Rank = 38/390
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/69
Pre-race routine:

Get up super early and go to the park and setup the sound system for the church service. Setup transition and then run back and give the message at the church service for FCA Endurance.
Event warmup:

Not too much warmup. I get real nervious about doing the church service, so that gets my heart-rate going.
Swim
  • 19m 9s
  • 1093 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was good for me. I actually came out of the water right about 18:30, but the timer for the t1 wasn't until you entered into transition which was quite a jog from the water. I felt good on the swim. I didn't really run into anyone until the end when I got blocked off by a couple of the slower people from the Half Ironman. There was a perfect space between these two people and as was about to go through they pintched me off and I practically had to stop.
What would you do differently?:

I think I needed to stay focused a litte more and push harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This went really well I thought. I got my suit off faster than normal. The only issue was leaving transition. I got bottle necked behind some of the slower people from the HIM. They were nearly as excited to get to the bike as I must have been.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. It went smooth.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 56s
  • 31.45 miles
  • 21.46 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where I need the most work. I just don't have the muscle in my legs to go the speed of a lot of these guys. I got passed by 4 people or more in my age group. I tried to stay with them, but I just couldn't hang. But for me this was really good and to average over 21 on that course with so many turns was great.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

This transition went well also. I took a little longer than I should have since I decided to run with my fuel belt, which probably was the better choice anyways.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 46m 28s
  • 6.63 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was the biggest suprise of the day. I was trying to keep up with this guy that was about 50 yds in front of me the entire run. It really helped me push. I think my fastest mile split was a 6:50. I was very happy with that. I was able to catch every guy in my age group that passed me on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this was a really good run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a lot. Drank my recoverite. I felt fine until I ate the Monti's food and then my stomach was a mess for the next 3 hours.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim I was not really pushing as hard as I could. The bike, I don't seem to have the leg strength built up as a lot of the guys in the top of my age group.

Event comments:

This was a good race. There were a couple major issues that made me not rate it higher. First, the organization of the bike course and the volunteer directing the trafic of the first loop of the quarter, started mentioning the shorter turn that we were going to do on the second loop and that made a few people cake the short loop on the first loop.
Second, the Monti's food tasted fine, but made me feel pretty crappy after.

Awsome run splits - even think I may have spotted you on the bike (but I had three loop sof turns so I may have been dizzy!)  Great 1/4 man (does this mean if you do this race four times you can be a man?)!!!

Another great race Ryan!!!  Way to go! I agree with you on the Monti's food.  I couldn't believe that is what they were feeding us!!!  Last year it was a HUGE buffet in their back parking lot and was good stuff.  Bummer that the race offereings have been going down hill this year (Nathans too)!
