View Member's Race Log View other race reports
Tempe, Arizona
United States
The Red Rock Company
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 6h 49m 8s
Overall Rank = 443/490
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 98/105
Pre-race routine:

Visiting with the Cool Kids.
Event warmup:

Little water treading.
Swim
  • 49m 40s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim for me in that I was very casual and still had a good time. I think my swimming is really improving since last year.
What would you do differently?:

This was a training day or "D" race so I would have probably slowed down a little more to focus on technique. Real race is less than 4 weeks to go.
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Bike
  • 2h 51m 41s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.57 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike leg for me. Not too hard and nutrition was spot on. Too bad there was so many u-turns so technique was more important than hammering the pace.
What would you do differently?:

Probably slow down as the bike and swim were too fast for my planned pace goal.
Transition 2
  • 03m 36s
Comments:

Just and easy transition.
What would you do differently?:

Put the race speed in!
Run
  • 2h 59m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Mostly walk/jog after the first 5 miles. The goal pace was way too fast and I did not want to force myself to spend the next few weeks in recovery instead of training mode.
What would you do differently?:

Slow the Bike/Swim and pace the run better.
Post race
Warm down:

Slip and slide and a littel food while walking about.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Internal goal of trying to keep overall time closer to 7 hours.

Event comments:

My only injury was a bloody knee from finishing on the slip and slide. I also did not re-apply sun screen so i cought the red face of shame for my lack of foresight. I really do look forward to IMAZ now in that the run will be later (cooler) than this and with a good swim and bike I should be able to finish before cut-off times.
