Subject: Goggles -- Mine Suck!

So I finally found goggles that are comfortable and fit me very well...the Aqua Sphere Kaiman.  I bought the grey tinted ones that are mirrored.  The problem is I can't keep them from fogging up.  I've tried anti-fog, spit, cleaning them with baby shampoo, etc.  Nothing works.

I've never had a problem with goggles fogging until I bought these.  I'm thinking about buying another pair with the clear lens (that aren't mirrored) to see if they don't fog.  I really like these goggles but am frustrated that I can't even get 100m in without them fogging to the point where I can barely see the wall.

Any recommendations?  Am I just being stupid for buying the same goggles (albeit a different lens) and expecting something different?

Thanks for the help

I have Aqua Sphere as well. Mine fog after 20 minutes every single time. It's like clock work. I just grind through it. I have clear lenses though, and they leave enough visibility for me to ensure that I don't crash into the wall.

Same problem.  I make sure the lenses are VERY clean before adding the anti fog.  I'll clean them with soap and water at home and wipe any film away with towel.

That seemed to have helped some - at least for a couple swims.

I have the same goggles with light blue lenses.  I spit on the inside of mine and rub it around and rinse with pool water before I put them on and they never fog.  Gross I know, but it works.

I hear Baby Shampoo works also.

P.S. While in Florida over Christmas, I went to WalMart to buy a cheap pair of goggles to swim with. They had Iron Man goggles for $9.99 that are great!

Spit works.  Anyone who dives knows to spit in the mask before putting it on

I use an anti-fog solution spray just before I start.  I also try not to remove them  or break the seal after I start my workout.  The only time I start having fogging issues is when my swims go longer than an hour. Then I resort to using spit.

I tried toothpaste, cat crap anti fog, spit (ewwww), baby shampoo, but at some point or another they just fog.
HOWEVER I had a tri yesterday and i got some TYR goggles from a local sport store.  I have graves disease and so my eyes are blugy (they kinda stick out) and the eyelids are kida fatty...... anyway, by a freak chance these are larger and so they fit all the way around my eye and not only part way.  THey are a bit tinted but not mirrored (which mkaes my sensitive eyes happy).  They did not fog once. Now granted they are new and I do not swim like the wind...... but the other three pair I have had all fogged, and these are not doing that.  I wonder if it is because they are not fitting so cose to my eyeballs.
OH I also loosened the strap on them so they did not hurt .........I use only teh suction of the lenses to keep them on my face.

Good luck, foggy goggles suck !

For what it may be worth... I have the Aqua Sphere's with the orange tint.  First, they are the BEST goggles I have ever used.  I went through four pairs before I finally found the right ones.  I have never had a problem with them fogging.  I spit in them and rub the lenses before using, and swim from 30 - 60 minutes and never have a problem fogging.  I don't know if it's the tint or the spit or some other reason.  If all else fails, you could always try that style/tint.  It can get to be an exspensive trial and error.  Good luck!

Goggles are definately a personal thing.  i had speedo vanquishers and they became perma-fogged. I bought some Aqua sphere kaimans (grey with mirror lenses) and could not get them to stop leaking.  Used them once and couldn't stand it anymore.  I guess they just don't fit my face.  Just went to Speedo GCG and use the anti-fog spray and they are awesome.  super comfortable, don't leak and no fogging at all.

I had the same problem with aquaspheres.  Nothing worked, I tried spit, baby shampoo and just about everything else I could think of.  Eventually I discovered that aquasphere sell anti fogging drops.  I bought some and it worked.  I may be cynical but I think they engineer them to fog so you go out and buy their drops.

I'm back to spitting in my Zogg's and Speedo's now!

Sounds silly, but try Aqua Fresh toothpaste. Not sure why aqua fresh, but it's what we were told to use, and now it's what we use.

Smear it in, rinse most of it out. No more fog.

Otherwise, try different goggles. I have a pair of Speedo Hydrospex & a pair of Nike Remora's, neither of which fog up..... just sayin'.

I have a set of speedo speedsockets that I love. They were about $25 at Dick's. They've got a very small profile and they never....ever fog.

I also have a pair of nike goggles that fog up instantly.

While we are on the subject, anyone know any specific models that have a larger lens for a greater field of vision?

I know everyone says spit in them, which sorta works, but you have to rinse the spit out. Try licking the inside of the goggles. You won't have to rinse out the excess and the "lick layer" prevents ALL FOGGING.

I got a pair, randomly, of blue seventy goggles at IMWI last year & I love them - never had a fog problem & the rubber around the eyes is super comfy - that was always my problem, I'd take off my goggles & want to cry...the suction killed my orbital bones.  I do spit in my lenses and have fog issues when I use my speedos.  I used to wonder why my bf had 4 pairs of goggles - now I know, I have three.

I loved my speedo vanquishers until after a week they started fogging - to my chagrin I tried the spit thing last night....and it worked - gross but worth it!

Bought a pair of Aquasphere Vistas. They fog up despite everything I've tried. They were $35!. My $12 Wal Marts were perfect and lasted 3 years. Stay away from Aquasphere goggles.

No help, but must be individual results or manufacture defect. I get at least 6 months out of my Kaimans before the anti fog coating they come with starts to wear off. They are clear from time I put them on until end of swim. Same results for blue tint, clear tint, dark tint. I ussually bring a pair of clear and tinted to races and make up mind based on conditions. But if I had to choose one I woudl stay with the clear. How much does the tint help when the sun is on the horizon and staring you in the face? Maybe a little, but not much IMHO.

Good luck.

I've got my cheap Walmart goggles and I've never had any problem with fogging.  They're "Z leader".  They're also very comfortable as they come with like 3 different nose pieces for individual adjustment.  Remember, the most expensive ones aren't always the best.

Speedo vanquishers for me. Been using them for about 5 months, never fogged on me once and never had to spit on them. Just bought another pair for backup from amazon (~$10)

TYR Socket Rockets and a good lick always has worked for me.

I'm using the same blue tinted Aqua Sphere Kaimans that I bought last year. No fog, no leak and this morning was a swim over an hour.
I've ordered mirrored ones and we'll see how those go.
